Kindle comes without a charger, too. At least in Europe. Never heard of any legal action because of it.

But this is not a Kindle, it's smartphone that costs $700-1K+. And this is Apple.. they get sued for matters far more frivolous than this all the time.

I could live without another charger for now, but if this rumor ends up being true I think a lot of people are going to be upset. And with smartphone sales declining and economic uncertainty looming everywhere, do they really want to risk a potentially huge backlash? This is the same company that sells a set of $400 wheels. One of these days their greed is going bite them in the a$$ in a big way.

Good. Why include a charger that millions of people will never use and just toss in the landfill. I use a wireless charger on the table and one in the car.

How do you figure that? People who bought phones would still get a new charger in the box with each phone, accumulating them beyond their needs, regardless if the charger was good or not.
Are you seriously saying that if Apple supplied a 20watt charger instead of the junkie 5 watt, people would still toss them in a drawer and not use them? I certainly would not.

I’m fine with this as long as they offer the power adapter at a reduced price. I’ll gladly pony up $9.99 for a genuine 20 watt Apple USB-C charger.
They won’t do this. I just bought some 18w chargers, and Aukey is around $11, and anker is around $15. You can bet that apple will charge $25 at least.

Steve thought this was so important that he once mentioned a box redesign during a keynote. I think it was when the iPod box stopped being a cube.

Jobs loved design so a mere box to us was art to him.

And saving money is always good.

Any lawyer who filed such a suit would be sanctioned. There is no legal claim that can even be stated. Fraud? Nope, they presumably won’t lie and say it comes with a charger. Breach of contract? What contract? Intentional infliction of emotional distress? There you might have something - perhaps Tim Cook is trying to troll the MacRumors “apple is doomed” crowd.

This would be really bad publicity. A charger is needed to use the phone, and not everybody have a computer or another charger.

Yeah, I agree, but I swear I recall him talking about how with the new boxes Apple could now fit more units per container and that meant that it used less fuel to ship devices.

But I can't find a clip.

I’m sure it will retail for $30. What I meant to suggest is that perhaps (although unlikely) Apple will allow you to purchase the charger at a substantially lower price at the time of purchase of a new iPhone 12 Pro.

I actually like this idea.

Every man and his dog already have at least one USB charger by now. No need for more electronic waste. A large portion of these in-the-box chargers end up in a drawer and eventually in the trash can.
Every man and his dog have USB-A charger. That's probably true. But the iPhone 12 is rumored to come with lightning to USB-C cable. So that means most consumers will end up buying a new charger anyway (and many will opt for less safe 3rd party chargers). How is that good for anything (environment or whatever)? It will create more waste as now every man and his dog would throw away their old charger as the electronic waste.

I guess Apple will also say it needs half the flight to transport these iPhone due to smaller packaging size, hence the environmental benefits. While I dont particularly like the move, but the cost concern for 5G iPhone is real.

I am thinking if Apple may actually introduce iPhone 12 5G / 4G both variants and cost $100 apart.

iPhone 12 Pro Max 5G ( OK that is ridiculously long... I hope they drop the Max from the name )

5G $1199
4G $1099

iPhone 12 Pro

5G $1099
4G $999

May be there wont be a 4G / 5G choice in the Pros. Apple will simply force you to buy 5G.

iPhone 12 6.1"

5G $799
4G $699

iPhone 12 5.4"

5G $699
4G $599

Completely Drop the iPhone 11 Line up.

iPhone XR $499

iPhone SE $399

* iPhone XR will be replaced by iPhone SE Plus or whatever it is in March 2021. Or May be they will drop iPhone XR all together during September.

I mean if you look at current Samsung and Huawei's flagship 5G Price, Apple's 5G iPhone price aren't even expensive by comparison. For all the tech that is expected to be included in this year's iPhone, 5mn SoC, likely another breakthrough in CPU, GPU, NPU performance. Qualcomm Modem, which is more expensive than Intel Modem, but also better. 5G Patents, mmWave Antenna on the Pros. 120hz on the OLED. Likely updated version of Face ID hardware. I find it hard to believe how they wont rise the price. Which is the current mainstream believe from "leakers".

A charger isn't worth $50. It's really simple. Including the charger doesn't really do anything for the price. It's basically a dollar in production and pretty much no R&D costs go into it either. However, not including it won't bother most people, because they probably own dozens of them already. But there will be a few people that want to have one, and some of them will buy the charger from Apple, which probably has insane margins for Apple. They will of course sell it as a necessary step forward for the environment etc. It's actually surprising they didn't do this earlier.

Maybe it will come with 2 cables, one for usb-a and one for usb-c.
