Are you seriously saying that if Apple supplied a 20watt charger instead of the junkie 5 watt, people would still toss them in a drawer and not use them? I certainly would not.

Are you seriously saying that you need a dozen chargers to charge one iPhone? Why the heck do I need a charger for every phone that I ever bought? I don't use them, not because they're bad, but because I don't need a dozen chargers to charge one iPhone. I've NEVER bought a charger. I have all those chargers in my drawer because I don't need that many. How is this so hard for you to understand?

The savings in terms of the charger cost (probably less than $2 to make) is nothing compared to the shipping savings. Box will be half the height than the current one. You can send the double amount of devices using the same volume of space.

You think the 5W backlash was bad? Wait until they don't include one at all.

Then that counters the "environment" argument as this just results in people buying more chargers and throwing their old one.

Can you expand on how that counter the environment argument? Seems like it supports it.

This would be really bad publicity. A charger is needed to use the phone, and not everybody have a computer or another charger.
What... I would think it is actually RARE for a person to be buying an iPhone as their 1st phone. The only people to be affected by this would be:
kids/pre-teens that are getting their 1st phone
grandma/grandpa who has clung on to their old flip phone all this time and are only now getting something else

and finally (but the one Apple should be concerned with alienating)

Android switchers. If they are trying to woo people from Android... not including a charger isn't going to help their cause.

I didn't say there are USB ports in walls. I said there are USB ports scattered all over the house, from power bricks to speakers to TVs. I have something like 3 dozen USB ports in my place, not a single one of them is in the wall, and I have less than 10 power outlets.

Even that might be a stretch for ‘most’ households. I think you over estimate just how many modern divides are in a lot of houses. I haven’t bought a power brick in 15 years. No USB on those. The TV has just 1, I suppose the roku has one. From there it’s a few on computers (remember they are disappearing from computers too). And they need to be readily accessible ports to really count. I’m not dragging my laptop out into the living room to change my phone....

Welp, guess i was wrong. Good thing i have a lot of chargers

This is Kuo, wouldn’t value anything he has to say. Very rarely does he get it right, and even when he does, it’s usually quite a well established fact almost by then.

I’d wait for Gruber, Gurman, or that Chinese dream guy on Twitter before believing anything - they have a much better track record.

I have to laugh when people say “the EU will never allow this” because the EU *specifically voted* that all tech companies do this to reduce the 50 million metric tons of e-waste every year.

“[The EU] also expects a reduction/minimization of e-waste, by reducing the necessity to purchase different types of chargers and by giving the possibility to reuse already owned ones.” https://www.macrumors.com/guide/eu-charging-standard-proposals-and-apple/
And the vote passed:

The climate crisis isn’t going to solve itself. Let’s all do our part and reuse the previous iPhone charger that we already have and still works just fine.

Every time the same whining, when Apple leaves out unnecessary parts: Ports, floppies, CD drives, etc. After 2-3 years, every other manufacturer is on the same boat.

How many of those chargers have USB-C on them? Note that the cable included with the iPhone 12 is rumored to be lightning to USB-C. So far, only the iPhone 11 Pro includes USB-C charger.

Even on most Android with USB-C, the charger included are usually USB-A type.

While I agree android users likely already have a USB C brick so their power brick will work with the Apple cable that will come in the box

I feel like kids would have access to their parents old chargers. Don't most Android phones use USB chargers? I think most of them are more than 5W too.

I leave chargers at different places. One at work, one next to the couch, one next to the bed stand, etc.

The argument is for less e-waste. In reality, it will create even more e-waste as people will buy a new charger anyway, and throw away their old USB-A one (creating the extra e-waste).

I think you're talking about someone else. Kuo's name is often the first attached to leaks and rumors that end up being true. He's a pretty reliable source.
