c'mon guys be realistic.

there's probably not a soul left on earth that doesn't already have a usb charger lying around. the only ones not already owning a smartphone (plus charger), just don't have the money to buy an iphone.

plus they are sold almost fully charged.
so everyone saying you can't use them, when there's no charger in the box is just plain wrong.

Stop rationalizing stupidity.

iPhone 12 models will not include EarPods or a power adapter in the box, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said today in a research note obtained by MacRumors. This lines up with a prediction shared by analysts at Barclays earlier this week.

Kuo said that Apple will instead release a new 20W power adapter as an optional accessory for iPhones and end production of its existing 5W and 18W power adapters later this year. The form factor of the new 20W power adapter is said to be similar to the 18W version, with USB-C Power Delivery for fast charging, as seen in the leaked photo below.

Kuo also expects that Apple will stop including a 5W power adapter with the second-generation iPhone SE later this year, but he said that a 12W power adapter will continue to be included with existing generations of the lower-cost iPad, iPad Air, and iPad mini until those models are discontinued. Then, production of the 12W power adapter will end too.

More details to follow…

Apple: Proud to provide the least for the most $!

Because it's idiotic. Samsung includes a fast charger in their box. There's no rationale for this. There's also literally nothing funny about this.
Good for them, I have used my 18w charger maybe 5 times this year so for me won’t matter at all

Apple likely thinks most people should be using wireless charging.

This is apple getting ready for portless I imagine

Not false:

Phil Schiller actually was asked why Apple still ships their iPhones with a 5w tiny charger While competitors ship with full power chargers.

his response was Apple found out that people love the size of the 5w and is so convenient to carry around.

spoken like a true used car salesman.

The only reason to do this is just plain old greed.
Well, it’s not the *only* reason to do it. I think it’s dumb, for sure. But there is a legitimate argument to be made that it generates a lot of waste because people already have a ton.

The reason i think it’s dumb is a lot of people will go buy $5 knock-off chargers and burn their houses down - there are A lot badly made chargers out there.

Well no the accessories would be an extra cost from apples point of view so if you want same priced phone no accessories...

Question is would people care that much? I mean I have an 18w charger from last year so I need more chargers each year? No...so for me I could care less
If Apple sold you a $1000 phone that had a charger and the next one will be $1000 and won't have a charger, the phone will cost more.

I have 4 ipads and 2 iphones in my house. Sometimes the 2 phones and 2 ipads will charge at the same time. I also keep a charger at work. So in my house one charger will not be enough. Plus if one charger goes bad I want to go to that infamous drawer most of us have with all sorts of chargers in it, get an apple charger that I saved from my last purchase and use it. I don't want to have to order one and wait for it to arrive.

This makes perfect sense. It's kind of surprising it hasn't been done earlier. These days, USB ports are as common as standard household sockets. In fact, for most households, there are more USB ports than standard sockets, from power bricks to computers, to speakers, to TVs.

This will only be a slight inconvenience for anyone who is buying a smartphone for the first time and doesn't have a computer laying around. Everyone else has a dozen power bricks from previous phones, cluttered up at the bottom of junk drawers.

This is...interesting news. Do I have chargers? Yes. But do I have USB-C to lightning cables? One, from my Pro last year.

- If it comes with a USB-C to lightning cable, people that didn’t purchase a pro or don’t have a USB C brick are screwed to charge the device.

“here’s your phone, it has USB C and unless you bought a Pro or have a USB C charger, you’ll need to buy this adaptor to charge it”

if it comes with a USB-A to lightning cable then youll Have to purchase the brick and cable separately just to fast charge the device when it came included the year before.

“Here’s your phone, if you need an adapter then you can buy this fast charger, but it takes USB C and you have a USB A charger in the box so you’ll need this cable too.” (Since apparently Apple is discontinuing all other adaptors for sale)

Either way, it seems like a poor choice from apples part and not really worth the PR they are gonna get. Remove the EarPods? Fine. But the charger? Odd. Not saying it won’t happen because, well, this is 2020 but it just seems odd.

Not including headphones is a good move, I assume a good proportion just end up as e-waste. The charger is more controversial, but I'd rather they remove it than put the price up. I wonder what the stats on first-time buyers vs upgraders are, but I think it's likely many people who would purchase the 12 already have a Lightning charger.
