This likely saves Apple more in shipping/distribution/weight costs than it does in actual manufacturing costs.
The USB cable cost Apple ~$2 and the earphones cost about ~$4 when I saw internal costs many years ago. I don't remember the cost of the brick, but it wasn't much either. Leaving these out won't make up for higher costs in modem or screen, etc.

iphone 13 doesn’t include box response will be: c’mon guys the box is a huge waste.

iPhone 14 doesn’t include a hole to even charge device: c’’mon guys we use wireless charging all the time.

iPhone 15 doesn’t include iOS Updates: c’mon guys it’s only $12 a year subscription. that’s cheaper than a meal for one.

Notice the Apple customer rationale?

All I noticed is you like making stuff up.

Go for it Apple. I don't mind $50 smaller price or better tech instead of things I don't need. Reason being I have several EarPods & power adapters laying around already.

Makes sense with the pricing that was rumored, which already sounded quite cheap (by Apple standards). Also the cost saving in just shipping with smaller packaging due to this is enormous (don't forget that Apple flies not boat their iPhones out of China). It probably will be a 50% smaller package which basically translates in slashing the shipping cost in half.

If you truly think it's stupidity you have so much to learn about business.
It’s stupidity. Samsung includes a fast charger in the box because they aren’t stingy ******s. When you justify getting bent over, it leads to more bending over.

Have you never purchased a device where the batteries were not included?
Have you ever purchased an iPhone where the the charger was not included?

There’s no argument to be had. Not including a charger is stupid. Rationalizing it is even more stupid.

Are you claiming I don't have a pile of unused apple chargers? Or are you claiming that me having a pile of unused apple chargers is a good thing? Not addressing the point someone makes and calling them stupid.... seems stupid. You're free to disagree, but you can't just ignore their point and call them stupid.

You made a claim that the move would be bad even if Apple reduced the price of the phone. Why don't you try backing up your own statements? Do better.

Not acceptable really. If 5g is causing production cost increases, I'm sure Apple could absorb that into their costs given how much they charge and how big their profit margins are. It's becoming ridiculous now. The iPhone SHOULD NOT be considered like some high-end design fashion item!

"Apple would likely tout the environmental benefits of such a move."

This makes me want to puke. This is a move intended to please Wall Street. Nothing more; nothing less. Apple must show the markets that it's making more money with each transaction. Otherwise, the markets will become angry. The monster must be fed.

It's also cynical and an insult to customers.

I realize that I am only whispering into the wind here, but perhaps it's time for purchasers of iPhones to push back. We really do have more power than many of us believe. If the leak turns put to be true, just don't buy an iPhone 12. I promise you, if sales drop 50 per cent - or even 25 percent - the company will get the message.

But it won't happen. The vast majority of buyers are like moths being drawn to a flame. They're addicted and must get their fix.

Not everyone is in that boat. If someone’s switching from Android to iPhone and they spend ~$1000 for a phone, they expect to be able to charge it without paying extra.

Now it’s true they can use the cable that will be included in the box. But not everyone has a USB-C device to plug into.

I can see Apple discontinue Apple EarPods by not shipping them for free. I guess this will catalyze the transition to Bluetooth headphones and push AirPods sales. Anyhow. There is no scenario in which Apple won't ship the iPhone with a charging brick in the same year they decide to stop shipping EarPods.

Then buy Samsung. However, if Apple does this then others will follow, just like the headphone jack. It's great to reduce waste so people only buy a charger when they really need one.

Is there any other electronic in the world that is sold without a ready way right out of the box to charge it? They'd get sued in a minute.
Just bought some Sony wireless earbuds yesterday: no charger. Apple Airpod Pros: no charger. My Omnicharge USB-C battery pack: no charger.

android world is for you. If there was just apple in the world , then that would be a problem, a big one, but nowadays....you choice what you want

What? So you are saying Android is the option if you want choice, because what Apple doesn't give you one? Well guess what, Apple decided this for you too, no charger in box!!

I actually don’t think this is a big deal. If the higher-wattage charger adds $50 to the price of the phone, this gives people who don’t care about that (or who prefer wireless charging and know they’ll never use the wired charger) the option to not pay the extra $50 and keep what they’ve got. I know the saved cost is basically invisible to the consumer unless they roll out the 12 at a lower price, but I think most of the comments here are objecting on principal alone. We all already have chargers anyway, but now we’ll have the option to upgrade to a faster wired charger.

Also I think if Apple rolled out their own wireless charging pad along with this, it would make more sense. Selling the phone sans charger because there are multiple new options for charging.
