Kuo: iPhone 13 Lineup to Start at 128GB of Storage, Pro Models Will Have 1TB Option

The iPhone just got redesigned.
The target market of every new iPhone is not the previous generation owners, but the 2, 3, or more generation older owners. The iPhone 13 might not be a significant upgrade for 12 owners, but it's definitely a big upgrade for X, 8, 7/older iPhone owners (5G, new design, night mode, etc).

Every year, it's shown that more and more people are keeping their phones longer (thus Apple's focus for services and longer OS support).

For you, you can wait for the Titanium iPhone next year (maybe). Or you can opt for mid-low-range Android where they change their back colors and design every 6 month (while the internals are pretty much the same year by year) if you like having different looking phones every year.

correct , I own my Iphone X 64gb and now about to make the move to Iphone 13 1tb if the price is right. Main reason was Iphone X doesn’t support live text and After using live text on my Ipad Pro 2018 I can see it’s usefulness

After switching most of my media to iCloud, 64gb is more than plenty for me. And way more than needed for pretty much everyone else I know friends and family.
Personally the same experience. With iCloud, Apps offloading, active Music max cache, optimized Photos lib, etc my iPhone X with 64GB felt like infinite gigabytes. Now currently on an iPhone 12 Pro with 128GB and I haven’t checked, but maybe a lot more since it can expand a bit more.

Granted, it needs the phone to be online to be able to access “old” information but my experience has been that I haven’t had to check for device space in years even when I haven’t stopped taking or receiving photos, adding songs daily to download-enabled playlists, get apps, etc… and it makes sense, I might have 100 apps but in reality I use (and only get the chance to) a very small percentage of recurring ones.

So, for me also this works and now understand the idea behind it.

Just two days ahead of Apple's annual iPhone event, reputable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has outlined expected storage capacities for the iPhone 13 lineup.

iPhone-13-Dummy-Thumbnail-2.jpg

In a research note with investment firm TF International Securities, obtained by MacRumors, Kuo said the iPhone 13 lineup will start with 128GB of storage, with no 64GB option for any models. Kuo added that the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max will be available with up to 1TB of storage, which would be the largest capacity ever offered for an iPhone.

The exact storage capacity breakdown is as follows, according to Kuo:

iPhone 13 mini and iPhone 13
  • 128GB
  • 256GB
  • 512GB

iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max
  • 128GB
  • 256GB
  • 512GB
  • 1TB
For comparison:

iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12
  • 64GB
  • 128GB
  • 256GB

iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max
  • 128GB
  • 256GB
  • 512GB
Apple's event kicks off on Tuesday, September 14 at 10 a.m. Pacific Time. MacRumors will have full coverage of the announcements on our website and across our social platforms, including @MacRumorsLive on Twitter, so be sure to follow along.

My rumor is: iPhone 14 will support 10K 3D 360° video, HDR16,120FPS

As has been said just use iCloud, ive got loads of i-devices and haven’t got near to using 256 let alone a tb. And no I don’t game on it at all , I use my iPads and PS 5 for that thx …

if I was really serious about pro video I certainly wouldn’t buy an iPhone for it 😂

With CSAM and Lossless iPhone and 4K videos, pfffttt my apple needs to make 256gb the bare minimum, my lossless music alone totals close to 270gb on my iPad Pro 😭😭😭

Any 1TB iPhone takers? As someone who uses about 30GB of storage, I am genuinely curious what so much storage space can be filled with? And how does one backup/restore that beast, if needed?
I do a lot of 4K video on wilderness trips And shoot raw photos. I clear my iPhone regularly and it has 180GB on it ATM. My new MBP will need 1TB t backup the phone which I will then move to an external drive. A 512GB phone will give me breathing room.

So a Price drop is required. If the iPhone 13 mini starts with 128GB instead of 64, they cannot simply start at +100$ Compared to iPhone 12. Otherwise the gap to the Pro Models becomes bigger, if they stay with 999$/128GB

Expect a $50 price increase, which Apple needs in order to avoid awkward pricing on the 2020 and 2021 models in 2022 when the 6.1″ model will be the entry-line model of the year (with maybe another $50 increase).

Filming 4K with the excellent iPhone cameras is a no brainier and 256 GB can fill up quickly. Millions of people film things with their iPhones because the results are really good.

Not sure what CSAM has to do with it, are you now planning to keep all your photos on just one device?

i know that icloud sync media u have on devices. So if u have 1tb of media, u need that space on every device, but considering the max icloud plan is 2tb, im wondering how to sync to an iphone... or maybe it works only with macbooks?
Anyway im pretty sure theres a way to keep synced only part of these files, but if u have 64gb iphone and 1tb of media on cloud, how do u watch a video or just scroll photos??? Only while connected to wi-fi or u will use ehole data plan in no time...

yes, videos shotted in vertical mode and posted on the web in CCTV quality

Just like the iPhone is the most popular still camera it does the same for video. Apple cannot fix the shooting methods or the aesthetic appeal for the insane of course.

That’s however blaming the tool and not the photographer/videographer.

With iCloud Photo Library you can retain a small preview image locally and then zoom in to load the full resolution image from the cloud or you can have iCloud download all your images in full resolution as a local copy.

With 5G you’d think iPhones would come with an option of unlimited storage where there’s none built in and everything is cloud based. Would help to dramatically lower the cost of the iPhone.

We can but dream at this stage! When one day flat rate internet tariffs have become standard rather than the carriers trying to sell us limited bandwidth products this will certainly come closer to reality.

To be honest, I can’t remember the last time I watched a movie on my iPhone. Youtube that’s all.

As far as my data usage, I don’t even have the grandfathered unlimited plan anymore. Dumped it for 9gb a month which I don’t even come close to using.

No one ever needs 1tb option it’s pointless, the only reason apple will up sell if they give it more ram like the iPads because people will spend more to get higher ram

Have you heard of Lossless Audio? High-definition video? What about traveling to places that don't have cellular data or WiFi access? Just because your use case doesn't require more storage doesn't mean those use cases don't exist. Think different.

Yep. I still have my old iPhone 6s+, and I’ve used a Pixel 3 the last 3 years (for work. Personally I prefer iPhone). I’m definitely going back to the iPhone with the 13 this year. In fact, if there is nothing all that interesting about the 13 I’ll consider going with the 12 (if it’s still available).
