Any 1TB iPhone takers? As someone who uses about 30GB of storage, I am genuinely curious what so much storage space can be filled with? And how does one backup/restore that beast, if needed?
I will probably purchase the 1TB for my wife. She keeps all our family photos on her phone. I back them up with image capture for safety periodically. She does not want them backed up in iCloud and she wants to be able to look at any of them at any time. The photos I backup up to a hard drive are put away for safety. When she wants to view them on a big screen, she uses screen share with our Apple TV. Finally, she shoots and edits videos and photos on her phone.

She does not want an iPad.

Anyone remember the original iPhone had a massive 8Gig 😂
I always went the highest capacity however now I’m finding with iCloud 256gig is fine, in fact I could probably get away with 128gig. I have over 60,000 photos
8Gig was the upgrade. It came with 4Gig for $399 and 8Gig for $499.
Also Job’s justification was an iPod and a BlackBerry was a common buy for $399, so that’s how the price of the original iPhone was set. It’s sad inflation/greed is raising the price to above $1500 for a 1TB iPhone 13 Pro..

Yes. And I’m flooored to see people enjoying playing games on that puny little screen as well. Bad for eyes too.
Lol you’re on a downvote roll!

I get migraines and motion sickness sometimes when I watch too much motion on our big screen TVs. So I prefer to watch movies and play games on the small screen devices. I’ve been doing this for several years and my ophthalmologist says my eyes are healthy. I’ve been nearsighted for 42 years so I know that’s from heredity and has nothing to do with me looking at displays from the 80’s onwards. Oof, the 80’s: Amber vs green displays.

For those questioning usage for 1TB storage, consider content creators. They’ll be taking a lot of videos at one time. Having all your raw footage locally on the device can be very handy.

And don’t underestimate number of apps a person will use today. Everything now, restaurants, malls, various e-commerce, etc have their own apps. Then there are the productivity apps. I stream music and don’t take many photos nor play games, yet I already use up about 80GB on my 256GB S21 just for the apps. I can understand people wanting more storage.

I also think it’s for people with large collections of music, movies, TV, offline Netflix and YouTube, photos and games.. I download everything because sometimes I have no cellular connection (mountains or flying)…

Im also hoping Apple Maps will be downloadable. I’d love to download the entire US or whatever country I’m traveling to. Low Data plans or no connection makes this really helpful. Especially because GPS works without cell connection. Offline Siri could let us still get turn by turn directions

Yeah...unfortunately. 😒

I still have this old backup Note 9 from my brother. 128GB base storage, but that option on this to add 256GB from a pretty inexpensive memory card...I love that option. Apple never had this and never will.
*I know Samsung ditched the expandable storage.
microSD card on modern Android is generally useless other than to store your own media. Samsung never even allow adopted storage for microSD, only portable storage. Considering how Google doesn’t even have microSD on their own phones since the Galaxy Nexus (I think), I can understand Apple not wanting to bother with it from the get go.

Absolute apple fan here, but if my iPhone X has 256gb.. it’s four years old now.. memory is so much cheaper now in 2021.. how Apple even sells a 64 or 128gb phone that now shoots 4k video with no memory card still perplexes me…
iPhone 6s was the first phone to offer 4K video recording. That phone started went on sale in 2015 with 16, 64 and 128gb storage.

This comes down to choice and not every consumer records countless 4K video. A lot of people will record little bits at a time and often, rarely. Even then, if they were concerned about space, you can knock the quality down to 1080p or 720p

Good on Apple to give consumers a choice, but I can count on one hand the number of times I've shot video with my iPhone 12 Pro. A 1TB phone is not for me.

As a minimalist, I try to keep my phone as empty and simple as possible. Unused Apps are removed regularly, photos and videos are transferred onto encrypted SSD’s that stay with the MacBook. A few audiobooks at a time on the phone and that’s pretty much it.

Having a decluttered digital footprint is as important for mental clarity and focus as your real world environment. “The things you own, end up owning you” applies to digital possessions and obligations as much as the physical.

Therein lies the problem for content creators. People want removable storage so they can pop out a full card, pop in a fresh new card and go. It's definitely way, way cheaper to get a few SD cards and an SSD for enough storage than blowing the cash on a 1TB iPhone.

Yes the 1TB iPhone works, but is it the best way to go about doing things? Not exactly.

Agreed, sorting through a potential of 1TB of photos on a phone screen is a terrible scenario I'm glad I won't have to suffer. 😄

That’s why as you make your images you create Albums to store them based on date, location, and event title. It’s not as hard as it seems if you start off correctly. Most don’t. Then you end up searching by just year, date, and month if you can even remember.

If you capture all photos in RAW (25 MB/picture) and shoot all your videos in 4K (350 MB/minute) then you will greatly appreciate the 1TB option.

If you don’t know what RAW format is (or why it matters) and don’t require 4K footage then the smaller options should work just fine.

Probably content creators. You’d be shocked at how many 4K videos people record everyday.

Nail :: Head

"content creators" . . . heh :)

I took a 24sec vid for my SO yesterday to show her how my new Fein multi-tool performs . . . 4K@60fps: 209.3MB HEVC

I share multiple videos with her each day . . .

That I could feasibly shoot:share 4500+ vids with her over the lifespan of my phone is pushing the envelope of reason, but storage compounds . . . .

My 12-mini-256GB: Photos Library is clocking-in at roughly 151GB, Messages is about 125GB, and Documents is just North of 43GB . . . that's a 63GB 1:1 storage deficit :)

. . . I can just mirror my complete Photos Library on this critter, but the Low Storage warnings make me cringe!

Finally decided to "Optimize Storage" last month, and it grumpied me to no end <smile>

I am willing to pay whatever it takes to not have to think about any impingement upon how I shoot, share and store.

[This reply is not intended as a Dump, nfl46 . . . it just became an inspired sharing ;)]

Props <s>

So if you do have it backed up, why do you need it constantly on your iPhone? Do you need to reference these photos on a regular basis? If it’s music, surely you don’t have to have every song at your disposal.
Just curious.
The majority here assumes other iPhone users are casual users. I stopped carrying a 2nd phone and use mine for personal and business along with dual sim. Its really helpful to reference or search for things without waiting for iCloud, Mail, Outlook, Google Photos etc to give me results, especially if I'm roaming on another network. Streaming camera roll videos from the cloud has never been a smooth experience for me.

I have some real estate and construction friends that will benefit a 1TB iPhone.

I said in the other topic thread that in 2021 it's down right scummy to have a phone release today with only 64GB of storage. Every iPhone should start at 128GB. I sure hope this turns out to be true.

A lot of money for very small incremental changes when you consider what most people actually do with their phone.

Can't imagine searching through 1TB of pics on a phone. ....scrolling scrolling scrolling. I know it's here somewhere. Lol

Keywords, Love, Location, Date, et al. . . .sometimes a real biotch, but with a bit of forethought <smile>

Man storage is their big money maker profit margin wise they really must not have many new features to get people to upgrade this time around.

You tell them to purchase Filmic Pro, but provide no reason why.
Filmic Pro is totally unnecessary for what they mention.
It's overkill.
I did provide the reason why (to take the video file quality to the next level). It may not be necessary and would not always be used but it is definitely not overkill - this is footage intended to be kept and viewed well into the future, so the better the better. It is the equivalent of several generations in advancements in the default format.

A 1tb option is fine.
But I assume those who keep upwards of 1 TB of video or photos on their iPhone also have it all backed up on some cloud storage.

It apears that I have 1,7TB of unused storage in iCloud right now . . . not including Host (s), B2 and various other Storage spaces available . . . .

If not, that’s chancing to lose a lot of information should you lose your phone.

So if you do have it backed up, why do you need it constantly on your iPhone? Do you need to reference these photos on a regular basis? If it’s music, surely you don’t have to have every song at your disposal.
Just curious.

It's not always that I "gotta look at this particular photo right now!", but that I can immediately (and deftly) share the image::idea in the Now.

Quite often, I find myself faced with a Context Scenario that can only be resolved with a 1,000,000-word photo :)
