All I want is a 3 camera system in the "basic" iPhone in a large size - give me that, and I will buy that model every year

Yes you’re correct in that a 6.7 inch phone is what a small number of vocal customers want. Thank you for proving my point

Enough people seem to want a 6.7" phone for Apple to continue offering them at that size. The same does not appear to be the case for small phones.

It’s called product segmentation strategy, with a decoy product strategy built in. Apple wants all of you to buy the most expensive iPhones. To help with that decision, they created lesser priced phones that is slightly cheaper but with lesser spec so you will justify “might as well get the $1000 one.”

Upsize your happy meal! ;)
That is clear to see, but it’s a poor strategy and will eventually see sales drop when everyone sees through it.

Tim Cook has ruined Apple.

And so what? You’re still buying apple products.

Times have changed.

Maybe it’s good thing Cook is CEO.

People have figured out how to buy cars. They can figure out how to buy iPhones.

I’ll buy some products if they are truly worth it and the price to product balance is right. The AirPods for example.

In terms of the Mac I’ve been getting free maxed out upgrades every couple of years from Apple via Applecare since 2012. So haven’t been scammed by the Mac pricing side of things.

On the contrary, we have seen Apple keep increasing YoY revenue even in the last two years of the pandemic.

Apple has a very strong brand. And since the competitors are mostly incompetent, Apple is in a unique position in maintaining their high margins without much disruptions even if they stumbles once or twice.

I would never buy a MAX iPhone just like I will never buy a Watch ULTRA. They are freaking humungous. They will neither fit on my wrist or in my pocket.

giant sized phone is stupid and shouldn't be a prerequisite to the most advanced features. either introduce an iPad mini that is also an iPhone or not. give consumers to have the option of a pro-featured phone to fit in their pocket or a purse. don't make the purse model "better" at the expense of someone buying the same advanced phone but diff specs. you'll kill the smaller "pro" model outright. next option will be only a phablet or phone with this trajectory. talk about stabbing their userbase in the back...

I hope this isn't true, but it probably is. Not everyone wants a giant phone, but some of us want better features. I tried it one year with an XS Max and I hated it. Way too big and heavy.

Take the Ultra. I would love an extra action button, and the flat screen. Make an Ultra, shrink it down and make a 45mm size that fits smaller wrists better. If course it would sacrifice some battery life, but it would still be an improvement over the series 7/8. I can live with 24 hours instead of 30.

The 6/6S era went too far on the thin, light phone design at the expense of battery life and durability, but I feel like we are going in the other direction. My 14 Pro can't sit flat on a table even in a case because the camera bump is massive. Even the regular 13/14 pro is a little heavy for my tastes. If they make the 15 max have an Ultra-like gap in features, I will hold onto my Pro and transition away from the Pro line.
I know what you mean - I find the pro max way too big and heavy but I realise that I’m an exception amongst high end buyers (not that I am one - still rocking an XR here 🙄😂).

Unfortunately due to the failure of the mini and the fact that most high end android phones are huge, that’s the way that the market is going.

It seems that the majority of people buying high end models are fine for swapping ergonomic usability for more features.

And apple will likely be able to get away with using the much lighter - but more expensive titanium - if price isn’t too much an issue and they’re happy with hitting a near $1399-499 starting price.

And a portless iPhone with the same shock resistance, water depth & ingress protection features etc as the watch ultra?

A significant amount of people are going to buy that.

It also allows Apple to develop and ‘test’ features that will eventually trickle down to the rest of the range.

Not talking about the year on year revenue gain. Money isn’t the only factor in what’s make a great company.

The soul of the company has been diminished since Steve’s Jobs died. The products aren’t anything to shout about anymore which is why they are trying to charge the highest prices they can whilst the gravy train lasts. The products just aren’t worth the money anymore.

Apple still has a very strong brand for now but if those price increases continue they will start to suffer. I mean I’ve upgraded to every iPhone since 2007. But I can no longer justify £1250+ each year for the same phone. So I am actually skipping the iPhone 14 Pro.

Nobody’s forcing you to spend $1000 every year. Apple has a breadth selections of iPhones at different price points. If you only think you should get the Pro models, that’s on you.

In the end, are you still an Apple user? Yes? So Apple got you anyway no matter what soul you think they have. ;)

Apple is now selling an $800 Apple Watch which is an iPhone accessory. A $1500 iPhone Ultra model is not too out of the ordinary. In a recession/inflation, Apple is seeing more purchases of their Pro iPhones. I doubt Apple would “suffer” anytime soon. Like Jobs said, if people don’t like it, they won’t buy it, the market will sort itself out, and so far the market doesn’t mind Apple’s price points.

I don’t think people are trading ergonomics. People are simply buying what they need. For many people, the phone is their only computer, and their tools for both productivity and entertainment. Many here have laptops, iPads, and phones. Most people don’t, they just have one device, the phone.

I hate that they give the larger one exclusive features. I will never get one, but that doesn't mean I don't want the best features. At the very least changing the name will make it clearer. Calling them both Pro and having different features has never made sense.

The Pro range should be the only iPhones in the market those below it are junk. Price points on the Pro are out of whack. I don’t think any phone should cost more than a laptop.

I am starting to move away from Apple in more of my tech. I spent £4000 on a top spec Windows laptop which outpaces anything Apple has to offer. Their laptops and desktops still can’t compete with high end Nvidia GPU’s.

I recently sold my iPad as well because I never actually used it anymore.

The iPhone is probably the only device I’d stay with due to the fact most of my friends and family own one and it just makes things easier.

Also since Apple stopped publishing actual sales data everything can be taken with a pinch of salt. There’s no concrete evidence that there is actually more sales for the Pro range.

Phones have OLED screens, and it is relatively expensive to miniaturize components.

Nothing Phone 1 has a 6.5" 120Hz OLED display and yet sells at a $450 price point. The Pixel 7 Pro has a variable refresh 120Hz OLED screen and sells at $900.

Many phones such as the Nothing phone for example more recently have OLED displays at 120Hz and they cost less than half the price of an iPhone. Theres absolutely zero justification for how the iPhones are currently priced.

Same old, same old. You do know Tim Cook is not the only employee at Apple and that they have NEVER been more successful......
