iPhone 15 Ultra - A17
iPhone 15 Pro - A16
iPhone 15 non-Pro - A15
Based on this rumor/prediction, it could be:

iPhone 15 Ultra - A17 (Best camera and Titanium)
iPhone 15 Pro - A17 (Second Best Camera and Stainless Steel)
iPhone 15 - A16 (Third Best Camera and Aluminum)

I don't see them recycling A15 yet again, or reusing A16 in the regular Pro.

Clearly what customers want and need: More iPhones variants with marginal differences between them in terms of specs and price in order to make the whole selection and buying experience difficult and time-consuming task. Mini, Pro, Max, last year's model, different screen sizes, chips, cameras...you need to spend a good day at Apple website just to figure out what iPhone you need based on your actual needs. In the good old days, you had to choose only the color and memory.

Ah, a return to the bad old days of only getting the best new features by spending the most ££££. Creating a class system with users/owners.

Profit over the experience for all users. With all the extra SKUs of devices, is Apple just repeating the mistakes of the past?

This is all he said she said the iPhone 14 range has only just been released.

I don't think they would bring extra features to the larger model this didn't work out for them on the 11 Pro range in the past.

If they were to bring a iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 pro Max and an Ultra they would have to drop the pricing one of the reasons the Samsung Z Fold doesn't sell in high volumes especially in the Europe with higher pricing already.

I think the lineup makes sense. There are two screen size options, each available at a premium or lower price. Price and/or screen size are much more important metrics to most than CPU or megapixels, which tend to matter more to people who post at rumors sites. As for a premium spec'd phone at SE or Mini size--well, it looks like that battle is over. It had loyal and vocal fans, but not enough of them.

Yet somehow it’s currently the best selling of the new models.

The highest selling phone at launch has little bearing on what will be the best selling over the life of the 14. Enthusiasts and tech-heads order early, everyone else picks a new device when they need one, and that will probably be the regular 14.

Apple needs to consider regular iPhone 14/15 models for the Spring event. No point introducing them during Fall Event. The Pro model steals the thunder.

Could it be? In 2023, we may see...
  1. iPhone 15 Pro
  2. iPhone 15 Pro Max
  3. iPhone 15 Ultra
That's a fantastic idea - especially as the regular phone is getting to be the purchase that people make when their old phone dies or when 'ah, this is just getting too slow etc. - it's time for a new iPhone!'.

Launching it with the SE - when it's an SE year - makes a lot of sense too.

As you say, let the fall event be about the latest and greatest (and most profitable for Apple) in the run-up to the holiday season.

And why should users who don’t want a gargantuan 6.7 phone which is aimed at niche users miss out on features?

It’s hardly as if 6.1 is small it’s self
Because Apple makes and sells products based on their ability to generate revenue, not on what a (relatively) small number of vocal customers want.

Yes you’re correct in that a 6.7 inch phone is what a small number of vocal customers want. Thank you for proving my point

This bums me out. What I’ve loved about the iPhone series since the XS is how the high-end model has been made available in two sizes. I think it was only the 12 Pro series that deviated from this slightly by making the Max model have a slightly better camera sensor or something that ultimately wasn’t dramatically better.

But if they go above this next year and reserve more features for the largest model…that just sucks. Even though I have pretty large hands, I think the smaller Pro model hits the perfect spot between size and usability. Apple has also been the only OEM who has offered a smaller flagship because that’s certainly not happening in Android land. In fact, it was because of that reason that I left Android and moved to iPhone.

Honestly, I really hope this dude is wrong and that Apple just rebrands their Pro models to Ultra or something. Like, I get the bigger model is selling more but if past numbers are anything to by a huge number of people still purchased the smaller Pro model. If it’s a 40/60 mix, that’s definitely not a niche number of people going with the smaller model by any means…

I hope this isn't true, but it probably is. Not everyone wants a giant phone, but some of us want better features. I tried it one year with an XS Max and I hated it. Way too big and heavy.

Take the Ultra. I would love an extra action button, and the flat screen. Make an Ultra, shrink it down and make a 45mm size that fits smaller wrists better. If course it would sacrifice some battery life, but it would still be an improvement over the series 7/8. I can live with 24 hours instead of 30.

The 6/6S era went too far on the thin, light phone design at the expense of battery life and durability, but I feel like we are going in the other direction. My 14 Pro can't sit flat on a table even in a case because the camera bump is massive. Even the regular 13/14 pro is a little heavy for my tastes. If they make the 15 max have an Ultra-like gap in features, I will hold onto my Pro and transition away from the Pro line.

Then Apple are clueless. People dont want differentiation. They also dont want to feel like they have the dud model. There should be one iPhone , the best iPhone they can possibly make - one spec in two different sizes.
Could not agree more. It’s not like their cheap one is actually cheap. Charge the price for everyone. Stop messing around Timmy.

I got an iPhone 13 Pro Max. If they want my money for a 15 they gonna have to blow me away.
And yeah, I don’t mean new colours and a bigger set of triple cameras.

I still think it’s not that big. I love this size and can never use anything smaller again after years of using a 5, 5s and first generation SE. I’ve been on the Max train since the XS Max and it’s great. I also have a bigger 12.9 inch iPad Pro as it’s easier to draw and write on.
I also had Xs Max and it was perfect, but with 12 Pro Max screen has gotten bigger and the phone itself due to the triple camera system and new design has gotten bulkier I don't find it comfortable to use as a daily phone. iPhone Pro max with iPhone mini or iPhone Pro with iPad mini, each with specific use cases would be nice but rocking Pro max as only device for everyday use cases is very frustrating imo.

So, I will take the 15 Ultra, I got a MAX a few years ago....might have been a X, for me it was just too big, but it had the better camera (optical image stabilization)

I had the iPhone X, then went with the iPhone 12 Pro Max and now back to the 6.1 size with the 14 Pro as felt the same way. I like the idea of having the larger screen but for me it pretty bulky and difficult to use one handed for me. Glad we have choices!

Apple should just drop the non-Pro line. There doesn't seem to be a compelling reason for many people to get them when it's not significantly cheaper.
And then maybe they could keep up with the Pro demand. It's been about a decade and a half and you still have stores bursting with every 14 model but near zero pros
