What’s the file size of a 40mp photo? My iPhone 13mini with 256gb is almost full. I have the 200GB storage plan. They should REALLY increase the data included in their plans if they’re going to increase the sensor size. Hopefully there’s some automated magic that can optimize a 40mp photo for the phone screen.

Photos from the 48 MP sensor will still be output at 12 MP if pixel binning is used, meaning the photo sizes will be about the same, and I suspect that will be the default setting on these new iPhones.

Just like Apple doesn't set these phones to output RAW or ProRes by default, they won't set them to output 48 MP by default either.

Please tell me “far out” is not just to celebrate a wider lens?

If so, that’s far out from exciting.
Lol, that would be fairly uneventful, however, there appeared to be stars/night sky/space so I would guess it’s likely astrophotography setting on top of the new wide angle lens. Problem is, astrophotography is doable on the 13 Pro already. You just have to manually adjust exposure to 30 seconds while keeping the phone stabilized and it does a decent job.

I know people like change and the pill/hole punch is a change, but it doesn’t give us any more usable space for content than the shrunken notch of the 13 Pro, so why go through the trouble of the redesign.
I think I’m the years of supply chain crunch and chip shortages they are just doing what they can to still be Apple. I’d imagine next year is the big tech leap. They have multiple teams working each with a project. I believe something like 10yrs out worth of phones are being worked on. Makes it harder to match every trend that pops up but at the same time it’s why we have the quality that we do and a processor that has a single thread performance that’s faster than my i7-10750h that’s in my gaming laptop.

The industrial design of these phones is really starting to lag behind. They've wrung this notch design out for five years !
I know, but to be fair to Apple, what the notch houses is still the best in the game. It’s a design trade off for something very functional. I’ll take the notch and FaceID rather than no FaceID. It would be even better if we had both FaceID and TouchID on power button for extra layer of security requiring dual authentication, or for those who just prefer one biometric over the other.

It bothers me how these articles are written.

Some aspects of the iPhone 14 are reported as fact:

- "The iPhone 14 Pro models will offer 48-megapixel and 12-megapixel photo output options"
- "the 48-megapixel lens is going to be limited to the iPhone 14 Pro models"

while others are stated as rumors and speculation:

- "Apple is rumored to be using a larger 1/1.3-inch sensor on the main Wide camera"
- "... while standard iPhone 14 models expected to get a standard 12-megapixel camera lens..."

Considering that none of this is fact, but leaks and speculation that is often proven to be false, I'm concerned at what other speculation is being passed off as fact here without our knowledge.
I hope there’s still an iPhone!

About time!
The ultra wide on my 13 is borderline unusable; shame as I really like the perspective

Well, everything comes at a cost I guess. I'm sure Apple's sales & marketing departments know pretty well what is the pain threshold. I will be ok if the price of iPhone 14 Pro goes up 20-25% compared to last year, but I'll be unwilling to pay beyond that.
You'd be ok with a 25% price increase?!?!
How about 50%?

It sounds like the sensor improvement is only for the wide lenses. Nice to have but not something I would be using all that much. Hope they increase the sensor size on the other lenses also. Otherwise, sticking with my 12 PM.

What are you video settings at? 4k 60FPS?

If you don’t take video, wow that’s a lot of photos.

Probably €1369 for the iPhone 14 Pro Max with 128 GB (while adding 8K recording at the same time) cuz Apple. Courage.

If it is anything above 1,4k I am just gonna laugh and hope people speak with their wallet which is shrinking and shrinking in todays climate as it is but knowing people, there are a lot of wrong priorities going around.
The current 128 doesn't support ProRaw 4K, because of storage limitations, I don't think you'll get 8K at the entry level, even if the entry level is 256GB.

In fact, (based on the sketches we have seen so far) it lowers the camera, so it eats away usable screen real estate. Unfortunately.

Agreed. There's nothing I don't like about my 13 Pro, just wish I would have gone with the Max. Next phone will be the 15 Pro Max.
People really under appreciate the camera upgrades because we get them so often. I mean, you're capturing stuff you'll want to look back on the rest of your life, why wouldn't you be happy about the quality going up every year?

And the majority of folks can barely take a good photo regardless of camera setup. I guarantee my spouse could take better photos if they had an SE and I had a Pro Max. You gotta have an eye for it, lightning conditions, etc
So your spouse would be able to take an even better photo with an iPhone Pro Max.
