I know people like change and the pill/hole punch is a change, but it doesn’t give us any more usable space for content than the shrunken notch of the 13 Pro, so why go through the trouble of the redesign.
You answered the question yourself - people like change.

Take Watch Series 7 for instance: it is the same exact device as Series 6, just with a marginally larger screen. People still buy it like crazy and even upgrade from S6 just to have the newest available model.

Every year I fall into the trap of upgrading for the new and improved camera but not this year. If I am being honest I cannot tell the differences with the camera year after year. Will be interesting to see see how the new rumored 48 megapixel camera looks and turns out.

I just learned this term “dynamic obsolescence”.
If it’s redesigned, people will buy it, so it’s redesigned for no other reason.

Apple doesn’t typically do a redesign for no good reason. Often they hold out until they have a better way of doing something to change. Though, they’re by no means perfect and definitely have their blindspots.

I’m over stressing out about my 256gb iPhone’s music files I cannot imagine stressing out about my picture files already, I need to see what their prices are for 512gb iPhones will go at least and see if iCloud would triple capacity if they want to increase from 12mp to 48mp and see what they will do for lossless/hi res music, common apple say the right words, 4tb apple premier base package 🤣 🤣

Ps hopefully AppleCare doesn’t jump up that much either 😭😭

I’ve been so unbelievably underwhelmed by the 13 Pro camera, but honestly it’s the telephoto lens…when my phone decides to actually use it instead of forcing digital zoom on the wide angle. Low light photos actually work well for me, was that a problem for a lot of people?

Yeah, unfortunately if the lighting is low, Apple defaults the 3x zoom lens to the standard wide angle digitally cropped 3x, which will definitely not give you equal quality. With that said, I have been really impressed with all three lenses for different uses.

Price prediction
iPhone 14 = $899 128GB, $999 256GB, $1099 512GB / A15 processor
iPhone 14 Max $999 128GB, $1099 256GB, $1199 512GB / A15 processor
iPhone 14 Pro = $1099 256GB, $999 512GB, $1399 1TB / A16 processor
iPhone 14 Pro Max $1199 256GB, $1299 512GB, $14991TB / A16 processor

Perfect "Apple" price point b/c of inflation and carriers will give out generous trade-in offers. Essentially the 14 and 14 Max will replace the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max as the 13's will be discontinued as the internals will be nearly identical. Thus the price hike.

Your prices on the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus/Max seem too high. Or at least I hope they're too high.

I hope they're too high on the Pro line too, but I'm less optimistic about those.

BTW, I'd probably just get the 128 GB, since having a 2 TB iCloud account for the family makes local storage a lot less necessary. And we still have well over 1 TB empty.

The reason why they are hiking the price b/c of the differentiator of the non pro and pro lineup, base storage increase and again generous trade in credits that will take place. I will be getting at least $1000 for my iPhone 12 Pro Max offsetting the price point of less than $200. However, Verizon is offering 36 month financing as they want to stretch the payment. So I am sure that these will be the prices are what they will be moving forward. Unfortunately!

I'm in Canada and only buy unlocked directly from Apple. The CAD has maintained its strength against the USD (unlike the Euro).

The iPhone 13 Pro 256 is AUD $1850 here. It wouldn't surprise me to see the 14 Pro 256 starting at $1999

Wait....The 512 GB iPhone 14 Pro is $999? Less than the 256 GB variant? I think you are confused or it was a typo!

which is why we are expecting a larger camera array to accommodate the larger lens size.

At some point the iPhone is going to become majority-camera with a phone on the side.

Compare improvements in camera to the phone and tell me which is the primary function.
Not the phone specifically, but the rest of the computing device is used much more than the camera.

Imagine they went for a slimmer camera but a slightly thicker base chassis with larger battery.

I've got a 12 Pro - and will not be upgrading.

But as I read more and more comments from those who want telephoto facilities, I keep returning to the idea of having a separate device. More or less, a small telescope. Able to be used by simply taking it out and pressing a button. Zoom and focus like on traditional zoom lenses. Also able to be operated from the phone, with the phone's screen acting like it does for the internal cameras.

Unlike existing products of this general type, it would make maximum use of the phone's processing and storage capabilities to keep the cost down but the functionality up.

And the Pro model would include full motorised pan, tilt, etc., remote control allowing it to be directed as desired.

If Apple don't want to do this themselves, open up so that manufacturers can do so. Allow (relatively) cheap and expensive products. Super-compact and super-large aperture.

If they haven't fixed the flare on the cameras with this iteration then it's going to be another wait until they do. It will be another fail.

Surprisingly photo quality hasn’t improved significantly since iPhone X (my phone!) doubt this is any different so I’m not upgrading! I’ve changed my battery so can wait another year. And why bother with 5G when my provider still dishes out 3G at every opportunity. Yours unimpressed.

I do love what Apple has done with utilizing the space between the pill and hole punch, in in fact these rumors pan out. The camera upgrades are also likely to be pretty nice but iterative, and the AoD is going to be cool. I am still super happy with my 13 Pro and happy to sit out until next year.

I hope Apple proves the rumors wrong and releases the periscope lens for the iPhone 14, instead of waiting until next year.
