so the selling point will be 8k video? will the iPhone pro screen be in 8k too? why is the Studio display only 5k? and my home TV only 4k?
I do know that Pro's move over to 8k, but what's the point for the iPhone?
Better tele zoom capabilities would be a selling point for me, but 8k is not ...
Because it’s for editing. You film in 8k, and this allows you to crop in and still get 4K videos. Like edit to zoom in to someone’s face then switch focus with animations.

Increased resolution of the camera array is a plus - but as a user I hate it when I reach in my right front pocket & the first thing i grab is the bump.

Increase resolution while miniaturizing the cameras for a more flush appearance, less risk of damage, and a more professional appearance.
Put a case on it, and it will flush.

I wonder how much storage these Live Photos are gonna take.

the iPhone is evolving into a monstrosity

As a photographer who has made his iPhone 11 Pro Max his main camera the last couple of years, these iPhone 14 Pro camera rumors excite me. Was going to upgrade anyway, but i don’t mind the slight increase in size if it means better cameras. It’s still so much smaller & lighter than carrying around a dslr & lens! ??
Maybe I read it wrong- having any camera can theoretically make you a photographer but, it's sad to hear people say they're a photographer and their main camera is a phone. Very sad. Like hearing someone say "I'm a driver and my car is Dacia Duster"

To remove the camera bump without re-engineering it (simply making the phone thicker) would result in a brick of a phone. 2cm doesn't seem that thick, but the 13 Pro is already quite hefty. It would be uncomfortable to hold for a long period of time--and certainly the last thing Apple would want is to incentivize iPhone owners to put down their phones.

All Apple would need to do is defy the laws of physics. Seems easy enough.

Not really. In the end, art is art. And totally subjective. As a photographer, the iPhone has replaced my dedicated camera in most of my photography & video work except for wildlife photography where I need a huge quality telephoto lens. I have fully embraced the iPhone with all it’s limitations. I think it is the ultimate street photography camera and i have a feeling that if Henri Cartier-Bresson were alive today, he’d use one. But who knows. For me, I love how inconspicuous it is. People don’t give a phone a second look because EVERYONE on the street has one. Even a rangefinder will scream camera. To me, photography has always been less about the pixel peeping & more about the concept. The mood a photograph creates & the emotional reactions it causes the viewer to feel. I know some photogs look down on “computational” photography. But many of them also looked down on digital photography when DSLRs first started replacing film cameras. I think it’s easy to knock iphoneography or say it’s just for taking snaps of your baby. To me that is limited thinking. Yes, it can be that, cause it’s a camera that is always in your pocket. But the iphone, even with it’s limitations has limitless possibilities. I fully embrace it. Art is art, and I’m diving into the bottomless creativity of the iPhone as my main camera. And that’s not a diss on dedicated cameras. It’s all good. You do you. ??

tsk tsk apple... The only, and I mean ONLY, reason I returned the 13 pro is because of the massive bump. Im very happy with my 12 Pro compared to the 13 pro, and it looks like Ill be skipping the 14 pro as well. Who the hell even asked for thinner, asymmetrical phones anyway?

The problem with your logic, is that it makes complete sense, where others aren’t taking into account that it would cost Apple to re-tool a chassis to be thicker, and it doesn’t necessarily mean that it will translate to more battery life, and even if it did, that would also increase the weight of the phone by making a larger battery or implement a secondary battery.

The trade-off is, if Apple makes a thicker iPhone, it doesn’t come without a cost and a sacrifice elsewhere, which would be the weight/thickness of the phone.

But in the Internet world, there are People who can do everything better than Apple can. That’s all we really need to know here.

And what other advantages does the 48 mp camera have besides 8K video?
pixel binning - 4 pixels worth of information condensed down into one for an output of 12MP, lossless digital zoom for 12MP photos, 16/20/48MP photo modes (for scenes with lots of fine detail).

:apple: should really focus on improving the ultra wide angle camera, as I find it borderline unusable unless there's loads of light.
The performance, even with just a little less light, is abysmal and it becomes a grain fest.
No use in having a cool ultra-wide camera if you practically cannot use it.

The 13PM is a perfect size for me — slightly larger with larger camera module wouldn’t bother me.

Is there such a thing as being able to switch between two different iPhones with one number? For instance, if I wanted to use my PM in certain situations and a smaller one in others?

I have a feeling the price of the Pro models will get a dramatic increase on top of the already hefty price tag, otherwise all models would be getting the same chip and base cameras.

To remove the bump and make the back flat again.
Highly doubt the target iPhone demo would ever go for a basic "no camera"? They turned their nose up to unapologetically plastic iphones, I doubt very much a "basic" no bump camera would even sell even in poorer under developed markets. An amazing camera sells the iPhone.

The camera bump on my 13 Pro Max is already too bulky and annoying.I can’t imagine an even larger bump.
