That's the REALLY subjective part

Who you are, how you use your devices, on and on and on

My big knock on Apple w/ the iPhone is that they are only really making "large" and "huge" phones now.

(apparently the Mini got dropped for 14 -- I hope they rejigger something at that spot that perhaps will sell better for them -- I think it was probably too expensive)

It's ok - if not outright really good - to have some models that fill niches that don't "sell like wildfire every single year". A lot of folks that want scaled back phones are also the types that maybe don't buy them too often. Year to year sales is a tough way to analyze that crowd and providing options for them.
And i suppose that is why they make different sizes. The Pro Max maxes me out…. 483DE51C-723C-4B2F-870B-626B9298018B.jpeg

The increased size of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max's rear camera array is due to all-new 48-megapixel Wide camera systems, according to reputable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

In a tweet, Kuo responded to leaked schematics recently shared by Max Weinbach. The schematics showed that the rear camera plateau of the iPhone 14 Pro models will increase by about five percent in each dimension, increasing from a width of 35.01mm to 36.73mm and a height of 36.24mm to 38.21mm. The bump itself is also set to protrude further from the device, increasing from 3.60mm on the iPhone 13 Pro to 4.17mm on the iPhone 14 Pro.

Kuo said that "the main reason for the larger and more prominent camera bump" is due to "upgrading the rear camera to 48MP." He added that the diagonal length of the iPhone's contact image sensor (CIS) is set to increase by to 25 to 35 percent with the jump to 48MP. Likewise, the height of the camera's lens system will increase by five to ten percent.

Along with the replacement of the notch with a new, pill and hole-punch TrueDepth camera array design, the 48MP Wide camera is among the iPhone 14 Pro's most widely rumored features, having been repeatedly mentioned by Kuo, Taiwanese research firm TrendForce, and Haitong International Securities analyst Jeff Pu.

The 48MP camera system is expected to be limited to the iPhone 14 Pro models and allow for 8K video recording, offering a significant upgrade over the iPhone 13 Pro's 12MP camera and 4K video recording capabilities. High-resolution 8K videos recorded with the iPhone 14 Pro are also said to be be suitable for viewing on Apple's long-rumored AR/VR headset.

Kuo has previously said that he believes that the camera quality of the iPhone 14 Pro models will "elevate mobile phone camera photography to a new level."

Does this mean they’ll introduce USB-C?

Put it in a case and it is flush 🤷‍♂️
Right, your mentality is on point. But the complainers, they don’t get it. They (the complainers) believe Apple should completely scrap the camera bump design, re-manufacture and re-tool an entire new chassis with a flush camera bump, and they would still find something to complain about. Online forms isn’t a practical mentality, when the average consumer has more common sense understanding that a case total eliminates worrying about any ‘camera bump’, let alone I’ve never heard anybody even discuss this topic outside this forum.

Bump size change unestablished, no need to build additional rumours on top of that.

I wonder how far this will go?

Will some people be carrying around an 8" screened iPhone 18 Pro Max Platinum with 8 camera lenses on the back?

5s was the last design that made sense
Are you a design engineer?

When you say… ‘made sense’, did you take any type of specific polls for iPhone consumers that totally are in line with your viewpoint? If you did, would you mind posting that.

See, the reason for my comment, this is to show you that online mentality isn’t a practical approach. Your logic isn’t reasonable that believes that iPhone should be stagnant and never evolve.

The larger sensor size is most welcomed! (Especially 25%-35% increase)

48 / 4 = 12 megapixels. It will bin 4 pixels into 1 to achieve better IQ.

I hope Apple will leave full 48-megapixel resolution image size for at least 3rd party camera app developers.

8K is definitely a gimmick for almost all users and a waste of space. Now if apple uses that 48MP to combine 4:1 pixels into 12MP/4K then that will totally be worth it.

Also hope dimension changes doesn’t break my MagSafe
Can you explain to me why combining 4 smaller pixels results in better quality compared to 1 pixel that‘s 4 times the sizes?

As a photographer who has made his iPhone 11 Pro Max his main camera the last couple of years, these iPhone 14 Pro camera rumors excite me. Was going to upgrade anyway, but i don’t mind the slight increase in size if it means better cameras. It’s still so much smaller & lighter than carrying around a dslr & lens! ??

Exactly. Make it thicker, flush cameras, larger battery, and a return to non-wobbling sublime design of the Jobs era.
Exactly.

Or if they insist on a camera bump at least, for heaven’s sake, make the protrusions centered so that it doesn't tilt when sitting on a flat surface.

This is reminding me of megapixel wars during the days of the digicam preceding smartphones. 48MP is insane. Maybe good for someone trying to look at photo detail on their 60" TV. Do they have a big enough sensor to make 48MP meaningful?
