I'm really happy that they've made the shape rounder, every time I pick up my old XS I remember how much nicer in hand that phone is than my 13 Pro with its sharp edges (I do not use a case). Since they've rounded off the edges again, and because I use my phone in situations where I really need a larger screen, and my eyes are two years older now, I'm going PM this time around.

As per usual I get the "bragging-color" I.E. the one that screams "look at me I have the NEWEST iPhone" only to regret it a month or two later. So a natural titanium is replacing my baby blue 13 Pro, and I'll as always regret that I didn't go for silver. :D
What a workhorse the XS is/was. I will miss this thing. Congrats on your purchase. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

Why even waste their time making anything other than the Pro and Pro Max?
They sell in decent numbers for those who want something new but don’t want to spend the extra for the Pro. IOW, people who aren’t waking up early on a Friday morning to pre-order, but who simply order new phones (or go to carrier shops) when they get their upgrade notices.

For the US users, I'll be traveling to Miami by Mid October. Do you think Pro Max 256gb will be available by that time in stores?
I would suggest checking the website a week or so before your trip for in-store pickup. You might find a few units here and there. If you aren’t picky about the color, you might score a Pro Max.

Average normie consumer here.

First upgrade since the X 256G (2017.)

Opted for the 15 Pro Max which cost me the same as my X did, 6 years ago.

Quite substantial improvements now, most notably hardware, USB-C and the camera.

Looking forward to the software-based gimmicks too.
It will be a substantial upgrade. I'm coming from a regular sized XS, and going to a 15 Pro Max. I can't wait!!

All for an improved camera and a charge port they should've had 8 years ago. The only reason I bought it was the Verizon credit I'm getting for my very old phone... they kind of make it a no brainer. The cost of a new phone is the same, might as well get the new one and the silver lining is I can toss my lightning cables I've been collecting since the iPhone 5.
In 2015 the only Apple product with USB-C was the 12” MacBook. Apple promised in 2012 that the Lightning port would be around for 10 years. It was around for 11 years before they replaced it.

Lambs to the slaughter, waiting for the 16 pro max or ultra for the larger brighter display, and than waiting for the iphone 19 pro max or ultra for the full screen display.

The same old story every year - Apple never learns and never makes enough to meet demand to create a false sense of scarcity.
Perhaps there are in fact limitations on even Apple’s ability to satisfy demand. They can’t just snap their fingers and create new raw materials. There are limits to everything.
Or Apple underestimated demand

The same old story every year - Apple never learns and never makes enough to meet demand to create a false sense of scarcity.
This gets said every year with no evidence.
Evidence? How about TSMC telling their suppliers to hold off on delivering critical chip making equipment (e.g. ASML's EUV lithography machine for 3nm chips found in the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max) due to "worse-than-expected deterioration in demand" for advanced chips.

It's entirely possible/probable that Apple didn't know what demand would be for iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max and ordered fewer A17 Pro (3nm) chips which would lead to less inventory of iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing, the world’s largest third-party semiconductor manufacturer, has told suppliers to delay some deliveries amid concerns about slowing chip demand, according to a new report Friday.

Last week, the company said its August revenue fell 13.5% from last year and rose 6.2% from the prior month.

TSMC has told large chip-equipment suppliers to delay some deliveries, Reuters reported Friday, citing sources familiar with the matter. The company is “increasingly nervous” about demand from its customers, the report said.

TSMC dominates the market for high-end chips. It makes the main processors inside Apple iPhones....

In July, TSMC lowered its financial guidance for the year, forecasting a decline of 10% year over year in revenue. Management at the time said it saw a worse-than-expected deterioration in demand outside of the robust artificial intelligence chip market and a weaker recovery than expected in China.

Are you suggesting that Apple is going to create a whole new line ABOVE the Pro and call it the Ultra? Or that Apple is just going to change the name of the Pro Max to the Ultra iPhone?
No I think the 15 Pro Max becomes the 16 Ultra next year, although maybe it makes more sense to continue with the 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max, then the 16 Ultra to top the range off. I don’t know. Personally I think Apple has a lineup that makes sense, although I wish they’d kept the Mini around to cover small to large sizes. I definitely see way more iPhone 12/13/14 around then the Pro versions, and when I do see the Pro versions it’s always the Pro Max.

Given how popular the Pro Max apparently is despite its high price, the improvement probably doesn’t have to be that huge. Just give it a better camera and some additional minor tidbits, more RAM, double the storage or whatever.
The Max is $100 more than the Pro for the same storage. They just dropped the 128GB model to raise the ASP. Ultra branding might might sense if Apple is going to market a foldable phone, but I don’t really see it as just a rebrand for the Pro Max. But we’ll see next year what Apple has in store.

This is the first time I didn’t preordered online due to I overslept and half and hour after preorder opens I was seeing November shipping and I couldn’t wait until November even though it’s just an estimate, I even setup and saved my preorder three days before, next step is I will just go early to my local  store and see if I can grab 256GB Natural Titanium 15 Pro max and 128GB Black Titanium 15 Pro
If you aren’t looking for the Max, I would check the website daily to see if you can reserve in-store pickup. I don’t see Natural or Black Titanium in my area, but I do see Blue Titanium 256GB Pro units for 9/23/23 pickup.

For the US users, I'll be traveling to Miami by Mid October. Do you think Pro Max 256gb will be available by that time in stores?
Most likely, yes. Just maybe not the “natural Ti” color. Remember that USA version DOES NOT have physical SIM card tray. Check with your carrier if they can activate it.

There has been "robust" demand for the iPhone 15 Pro Max since the device became available to pre-order on Friday, according to supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

iPhone-15-Pro-lineup.jpg

In a post on Medium today, Kuo said iPhone 15 Pro Max demand has outpaced iPhone 14 Pro Max demand during the equivalent period last year. However, he said demand for the iPhone 15 Pro is weaker than it was for the iPhone 14 Pro so far, which he believes could be the result of more customers choosing to buy the Pro Max model this year.

iPhone 15 Pro Max exclusively features an upgraded Telephoto lens with up to 5x optical zoom, compared to up to 3x on the iPhone 15 Pro. In the U.S., pricing for the iPhone 15 Pro Max starts at $1,199 for 256GB of storage, with Apple no longer offering the Pro Max with 128GB of storage for $1,099 like it did in years past.

Kuo reiterated that the iPhone 15 Pro Max entered mass production later than the other devices in the iPhone 15 series, which has contributed to the device's lengthy shipping delays. In the U.S., some configurations of the iPhone 15 Pro Max are currently estimated for delivery in November on Apple's online store. He said the Pro Max continues to face production challenges that are "more pronounced" than they are for the other models.

Kuo believes that demand for the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus has been "roughly on par" with the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus after the same amount of time.

All four iPhone 15 models will launch on Friday, September 22.

Just updated my delivery date from October 9th to the 16th to Friday September 22nd… iPhone 15 Pro Max Natural Titanium 1 Terabyte 😉🤙👍😎…. I was caught up in the Apple App Store crash and wasn’t able to complete my order until 8:25am Eastern. Glad to see Apple trying to make things right. 👏

Absolutely agree. The thing these conspiracy theorists don't understand is that limiting supply is just bad business. They want to sell as much product as soon as they can. Every second your product isn't available is a potential lost sale; a chance for someone to buy a less expensive model, the competitions product or nothing at all. There's no benefit, at all, to fake manufacturing limits.

It makes zero sense.
I think you're the one that doesn't understand.

Nike limits production of certain shoes (e.g. Air Jordan).

Sony limited production of the PlayStation 5.

Ferrari limits production of their cars, yet demand continues to grow as does its (up to 3 year) waiting list.

Those who want something will wait until it's available. It's not a lost sale but rather a delayed sale. It also makes for good publicity.

There's actually a term for this: scarcity marketing

I hear ya, but to me, that kind of diminishes the “Pro” name in my opinion. It just seems like such a cynical cash grab even for Apple that might turn people off. Just imagine if there already was a “pro” apple watch…and then apple announced the “Ultra” apple watch. See? That just seems weird to me & kinda redundant. But hey, guess we’ll find out next September what Apple plans to do. After all, thats an entire year away. And this is a rumor site. We’re all just speculating at this point.
I highly suspect Apple is "releasing" some rumours amongst certain employees to track sources of leaked information. I don't think the "Ultra" is an actual product, but if it is, I see it replacing the Pro Max and maybe leaving the regular sized Pro.

Tim Cook is arguably the best on the entire planet when it comes to supply chains, but sure I’ll question Apple’s judgement of possible demand based on the opinions of people on MACRUMORS.

Pro tip: 5.11 Defender Flex jeans have 2x AR Mag pockets on the lateral hips which both fit the Pro Max and still allow you to sit down easily. it also offloads the phone from the front pockets and you can hardly tell it's there - as a user or observer when worn with a T-Shirt. These jeans are extremely comfortable with a slight stretch.

Apple themselves should be selling these jeans as an alternative to their cases. "When you want to go naked..but would..but don't and shouldn't but will ;)

Pls, don't single out MR...

Include everyone's opinion online.

Especially those who always end their sentence with... "I love my iPhone mini!"

It tricked Apple into selling one then withdrew it from the market within 3 years.

I cannot recall a small Android phone succeeding in Apple numbers within half the last 5 years.

No question that it sold in quantity that would impress Android makers but not in the volume that is worth Apple's time.

It was very proactive of Apple to have a supply chain model nimble enough to shift production on a near hour by hour basis.

That's why this $3 trillion company will likely to become a $4 trillion one before this decade is over.

Also likely why Apple will not pursue the sub-$429 phone market because it isn't worth their time money-wise or antitrust-wise.

Maybe not a lot of upgrades compared to the 14 pro, but the average person doesn't upgrade their phone every year. Lot of people don't factor this in. Even if they did bring a lot of upgrades, asking people to spend over $1000 every year is a lot to ask.
It's not a $1000 if you're trading in your old phone. Since they make it so simple to do. You can bring it into the store, they handle it right there. Or you can ship it back later. Either way, it cuts the price down 40-50%. And being that I abuse my battery (keeping it FULLY CHARGED for no good reason other than to do it). And I like the camera upgrades. Plus with the Apple card its 0% interest over 2 years (which I usually pay off in 1). It's not as bad as the sticker shock would indicate. YMMV.

Apple got demand wrong for the iPhone 12 mini and 13 mini which lead to them replacing it with a Plus variant to which they also over-estimated demand. iPhone 14 Plus demand is/was worse than demand for the iPhone SE and iPhone 13 mini 🤣

Apple debuted the iPhone 12 mini in 2020 following years of calls from iPhone fans for the company to offer a small-screen device with the latest features. When Apple did so, it was assumed that the small form factor would persist for several years, but the device came to a seemingly premature end upon the release of the iPhone 14 lineup in 2022

Concerns first arose when the iPhone 12 mini appeared to not be selling as well as Apple had hoped, making up just six percent of iPhone 12 sales in the U.S. in October and November 2020, according to data gathered by Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP). Counterpoint Research reported that the iPhone 12 mini accounted for only five percent of all iPhone 12 sales in the U.S. in the first half of January 2021.

[ . . . ]

With the iPhone 14 lineup, Apple opted to replace the "mini" device with an all-new "Plus" device that matched the 6.7-inch display size of its high-end "Pro Max" models. In some respects, the "Plus" mirrors the "mini," offering the latest iPhone's features in a different display size.

Less than a week after the launch of the iPhone 14, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that demand for the two devices was "lackluster," with worse pre-order results than the third-generation iPhone SE and the iPhone 13 mini. He went as far as to claim that "Apple's product segmentation strategy for standard models fails this year" and Apple was believed to have shelved plans to increase production of the two devices. Display analyst Ross Young said panel orders for the ‌iPhone 14‌ were down 38 percent versus the ‌iPhone 13‌ at the same time last year, while in the resale market, the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus lost their value twice as fast as the iPhone 13 mini and iPhone 13 from the previous year.

Other reports from the likes of DigiTimes overwhelmingly presented the same picture of low iPhone 14 Plus sales, to the extent that Apple was forced to slash production...

Must. get. Pro. Max.

Even if the delivery extended to Dec and despite all other models still available on launch day.

I was addressing the part about Apple not making (ordering) enough to meet demand, not the part about creating a false sense of scarcity.
