As for haptic buttons, Apple again providing another solution to a non-existent problem and marketing it as an update.

What's next I wonder?

Why does everyone keep talking about cases needing holes or conductive materials? Force touch detects force, not capacitance. It’s literally in the name.

I feel 11 looks closer to 12/13/14 than to X/XS
If you’re looking at it straight from the back sure, the camera system is similar to newer phones. The overall shape though is just like the X/XS; the sides were rounded.

Assuming it works like the iPhone 7 home button, it’ll be capacitive. I didn’t read anywhere about it being a force sensor, only that the taptic motors will mimic force being applied.

I’m cool with this move. But first I’m gonna enjoy the 14 Pro for at least a solid 3 years. Not a fan of trying out first gen. tech features. Also this, add illuminated Apple logo to the iPhone please!
Your 14 Pro has several first gen tech features? Satellite connectivity and Dynamic Island just for starters.

I doubt we’ll see an illuminated logo. That chance died out when they removed it from the MacBooks.

Now I wonder what will Happen when iOS is frozen or stuck. Will it be possible to even restart the device Without using touch screen? Given apple’s current software quality record, I’m not putting too much faith on that one.

With all due respect, Kuo at times is wrong. Seems like he was paid by apple to post rumors etc. years of Kuo rumors recently 3 years so he has been wrong. Maybe apple wants to mislead people.

The haptic home button on the iPhone 7 felt great compared to what came before, so I tentatively support this kind of thing.

Personally, I absolutely hate the feel of pressing the buttons with rubber chunk of case on top of them, and bought cases that exposed the buttons until the TwelveSouth BookBook changed designs and stopped doing that. Since, I gave up and started getting cheap cases that I cut slots in above and below the buttons to improve the feel, but it's kind of a kludge that I've not been particularly happy with.

Assuming this is accurate, and assuming that case-makers do indeed change designs to expose the buttons, it would be a net positive, since it would force a design I prefer. Since the non-physical home button on earlier iPhones weren't bad at all and Apple trackpads feel better than mechanical ones to me, I'm at least not particularly concerned with functionality.

I do wonder if this'll cause issues for people who wear gloves that only have capacitive surfaces on a few fingertips.

Sat connect is USA and Canada only, for now. So, nope. And dynamic Island is a software feature not a new hardware feature. The illuminated logo will definitely make its return to the MacBooks one day. It’s just matter of time and it will be one of Apple’s most anticipated marketing moves.

Not sure how I feel about this. One step closer to the portless iPhone I don’t want. No explanation for how we will DFU or Restore our phones, or how we will turn them on again after being powered down

Good luck using those with gloves or through a trouser pocket.

There are zero advantages to this. I enjoy how saving internal space is mentioned but this solution requires two additional Taptic engines, sounds nice and heavy too 🤦‍♂️

Oh no, I like the real buttons.

While watching Netflix on my phone during cardio I don’t press the volume buttons, I press the iPhone against the shelf on the elliptical trainer ;)

But if the power button gonna be virtual, too, I’ll just rotate the iPhone to the right and be able to press the virtual volume buttons without switching the iPhone off.
