I am in no way an expert, but I believe low power mode stops backround tasks, wont automatically download mail, etc.

I have seen anything that makes the processors slow down or just runs the efficiency cores.
Low power mode disables the P Cores. I’ve used the 15 Pro exclusively on low power mode and it’s been impressively cool to the touch.

iPhonedo has taken a quick look at this and determined the culprit is most likely Instagram on iOS 17:

Sidenote: he makes excellent videos and provides thorough reviews on everything he looks at

My singular experience with heat on iPhone 15 Pro Max: Same sort of heat that happens every time I upgrade to a new iPhone. It's re-indexing, re-downloading apps, etc. I noticed it took about 2 days (while plugged in) before all indexing was completed. Makes sense given I've taken way more videos/pictures on my previous iPhone than I ever had before. It's fine now.

I can see we need a refresher course.....

iphonedo puts the blame on the Instagram app. I don't use Instagram that much so the only time my 15 Pro got really warm was during the initial Quick Setup. I live in AZ so my phones normally get warm outside where the high is still 100.

It’s not an app - it’s a runaway process which apparently instagram sets off. This guy is short sighted

Why is it I never see these articles until after I bought the device? Good thing I didn’t send my 14 pro max in for the trade yet. Does the trillion dollar company Apple even test their new hardware?

Do any senior executives even try out the devices before pushing them out the door? How is it that this wasn't noticed during development? Are Apple users that buy $1200 devices suppose to do the testing for them?

Interesting to read about the Instagram app possibly causing the overheating. I only use Meta stuff in a browser, will not have any of their apps on my phone. Maybe that is why I’m having no overheating or “excess battery drain” issues.

Sounds like this is only impacting some users, which makes me think it must be a software bug consuming system processes.

Might be some production problem, I suppose, but my money is on software.

Don’t believe this is a thermal design issue. That just doesn’t make sense. It is not like the 14 Pro had any special cooling properties.

And for all the people claiming this is a switch to titanium - that is very unlikely when everyone puts their phone in a honking, insulated case….I mean ya, the termal properties of titanium vs steel make such a huge difference when it is all in a silicon case 🤣🤣🤣

It takes time for the Internet to blow up individual cases to the dramatic, controversy levels.

Does the trillion dollar company Apple even test their new hardware?

Of course they do.

That doesn't stop of every Apple release having some "-gate", because that's how you get clicks these days.
