Setup a shortcut, to turn off bluetooth, wifi, and cell data from 1am > 5am and you will see a significant increase in battery life. Set a shortcut automation to turn them back on before you wake up. Apple likes to use this period as an network update period, it seems to excessively use FindMy during this time, which makes no sense as you are home, and some users decide to leave the phone unplugged over night to save battery life.

Poorly written apps: I've seen the Govee Home app, continue to ignore background refresh settings, and will drain your battery because it keeps the bluetooth connection open constantly.

Also TURN BACK OFF all the Privacy Location services that Apple turns back on. I turn all of them of but for Emergency SOS, Networking & Wireless, and FindMy.

My SE2020 had no battery change after the iOS 17.0.1 update because of the automation turning off data services at night. Basic cell service is still enabled, a SMS text message can still come through to you with the above 3 settings disabled. This is better than using Airplane mode because you want to keep a little connection. If you leave Wifi on, it will drain you dry overnight.

Apple is only familiar with iPhones sitting on MagSafe chargers in their store. Once you remove them from the MagSafe, Apple is unsure what really happens outside of their TV an Music applications they perform their tests with.

Good luck!
Thats Privacy #1 by Apple right there.

I’m sorry but don’t they put these phones thru a year or so of testing before it’s released ?

This smells foul.
It’s just the same thing that happens every year when a new phone is released. The vast majority of users don’t have any issues but the ones that do are very vocal about it which gives the impression the issue is more widespread than it really is.

Read quite a few reports that all indicated to the N3B process being the culprit…

Kuo has great insights into supplychain but he ain’t a technical expert on thermals

My 15 pro is noticeably warmer than the 14 pro. I noticed it when I was only browsing and listening to music and felt the warmth coming off the phone through the case.

I wonder if the max does better because it has more surface area to dissipate the heat?

Flexgate, antena gate, heat gate… imagine if this came from a Chinese company, you will be eating them alive, if it is from Apple we think “they will magically fix it”. Not acceptable to throttle down the CPU and dimmer the display to have the same performance as last year or even worse!!! (the battery test show the 15pm dimming earlier than the 14PM!).
Thats How they made the phone lighter, the titanium vs Steel ammount they removed is not the 10% weight. Cutting corners aren’t we????

Ah yes what happens when you try to make the phone thinner.. I guess history has not taught them the lesson..

Been using it since friday with no case. No issues.

Only time it was warm was overnight the first night as it processed hundreds of gigabytes of photos in icloud from the past 15 years. And when I say warm, I mean I would be sad if my cup of coffee was served at that temperature.

My suspicion is that these people are fast charging and have slow internet, so the iCloud sync process for photos is still happening a few days later. I've got 1GB fiber, so one night can go through the entire library for face/object detection.

Also tried shooting video in log. Took up multiple gigs of storage for a few minutes, but zero heat.

While I’ve designed some systems, a cellular phone is a complex bit of infrastructure and requires a lot of pieces to be done correctly.

If the product lifecycle is as far ahead as it might be, we might be seeing the short comings of covid hitting now.

That or someone didn’t consult someone or the testing scope was quite limited.
How is the problem of heat related to shipment ? Not sure I get it

I was going to upgrade to the 15 Pro Max on opening day, but now I'll keep what I have. My older 12 Pro is running smooth and fast on iOS 17 without any heating or battery performance issue. Looks like Apple shortchanged the 15 Pro/Pro Max in both battery performance and thermal regulation. It's hard for me to believe that Apple would sell flagship Pro phones with these major issues. Looks like poor design or development testing. Not a good way to start a new product launch.

I’d more happy with a second low power mode that lowers the processor speed but retains the promotion.
Very few people would notice a bit of a drop on the processor speed.
I had the exact same thought! I wish there were three choices: power; efficiency; low power. I don’t need ray tracing. Just a phone than can properly charge and won’t die with only 4 hours of on screen time.

I see a lot of people (and even the Macrumors article itself) conflating
1) the throttling of the A17 Pro (intended behavior for all we know, not an "issue" per se)
2) the iPhone 15 Pro getting hot while fast charging

Macrumors confusing them under the umbrella term "iPhone 15 Pro overheating issues" like it's a thing, a given...boooo..no useful journalistic content in both Kuo's post and Macrumors' front page article...

Mine certainly has gotten warm when I pushed it. For example, I already tried to put my USBC to the test by reading 20gb of dash cam footage onto my phone and then writing back to an encrypted drive. Writing the files to the drive made phone quite warm. I’d be interested in a software fix where I can choose slightly less performance for slightly more battery.

I otherwise love the phone. Can’t believe how much an upgrade going from a Pro Max to just a Pro is.

I
why why why?? pay top price for an overheating pro model? insane!
they knew this is a big problem, so now people pay 1500$ for this..
no shame. some reviewers claim you can't touch the phone after editing some videos
I mean you should know that such small a device with super limited thermal abilities would heat up like ****ing crazy

It’s not rly made for 4k editing y ‘know

Sir, this is MacRumors. Many of us here eat Apple alive on the regular.
