The X needs two hands as well and I think that could be a problem. You might as well go for the Max if you can't use either one handed. They may have to shrink the XI a bit to appeal to those that want the smaller one handed device. That being said, I think in a week or so I'll be able to use one hand better on the Max than on my old X. For one its not as slippery IMO, and for another it seems easier to use reachability on. I do have large hands but not abnormally so.

my hands aren't huge but I can fully use my X and now XS one handed. some of the rarer reaches to the far upper corner is a slight stretch but I still do it one handed without fear of dropping the phone. Without question I would need two hands to fully use a MAX.

This is my theory. one reason I didn't want an iPhone X was that the screen was smaller than my 7 Plus. No way in hell I was going to go to a smaller screen!

The XS Max is more my style; I want one but it's expensive so it has to wait.

Not correct. The X screen at 5.8” is larger than the 7 Plus screen at 5.5”. And HD video is larger on the X than on the Plus.

I would have had an XS Max delivered Friday but because of the notch, I'm going to buy spare chips for my 7+.

I'm not saying it isn't correct, just that I'm stunned. I just can't imagine that huge phone that needs two hands outsells the XS by 3-4x's. Perhaps it is a one off this year since few upgraded from the X and you have a large number of holdouts from the 8 Plus and earlier getting the bigger phone they wanted? I'm surprised.

Dude.... it is a lie, the lie they want to hear and they have to say. They have all that campaign of lies ready a year ago.

Every company will always tell you "they are doing great, everything was a success". I once worked with a CEO who lost his company due to his negligence and incompetence, what was his speech to everyone? "we are changing our marketing strategy".

For sure Apple didn't sell any phone but sold two of that line and in their view "it is outselling" because they expected to sell one.

At the Apple Store on Saturday it appeared as if everyone in line was asking for a Max. My wife got hers and she likes it a lot. I don't feel like giving up my X form factor, but the MAX just as a certain "wow!" factor due to that screen. A lot of people use their phone as their primary computing device.

My wife now has an AW Series 4 and a MAX - and I can see a world in which she leaves the MAX in her purse and solely interacts with the Apple Watch for notifications and quick messages, but grabs the phone when she wants to do something more involved or browse Facebook, etc.

Yeah, production "bottleneck." Please, Apple is intentionally delaying it so it can sell more XS (M) since XR would've outsold the flagship phone.

Am surprised as well. I don't like what Apple (Tim) will interpret from this: "we can charge whatever price we want, and they'll keep buying our stuff"! $2k phones next year? What's the limit for the iPhone market?

at first I doubted you but then i saw your name is "TheTruth101" so I am totally onboard with your theory.

Sad for those like me who prefer the X/XS form factor - means it'll likely be gone in a generation or two.

I think small phone advocates are actually like the Windows Phone fans. Every forum you'd hear WP fans screaming about their devotion to that platform (hey, I was one) and it made their numbers look pretty larger. Then the world realized that there are maybe a few thousand of them and all of them were on the online forums.

I think the market bears out the fact that most normal people like larger phones, but the small phone fans are more prone to make their views known. It is not just Apple, most people do not sell decent small phones. There's a reason for that. There's likely no sizeable market for it.

Personally, I'd like a really good small phone to be viable - but I think the X hits the sweet spot for me and when I booted up my 5S the other day I was shocked how small the screen was.

Agreed! Loved my 7 Plus, but fell for the idea that the X had similar screen area despite the overall size. I think the X actually does have a bigger screen size in total, but it was a much too narrow layout for me after the Plus, especially the way the keyboard was constrained in comparison. Ecstatic to now have the Max- what a great device!

Without the notch, yes by 0.111 in² but with the unavoidable loss in display area, the X actually would have the equivalent of a 5.41" screen in the same 16:9 aspect ratio of the older models.

The total screen surface area of a 7 plus (as well as any Apple plus size phone of that style) is larger than the X or XS.
And more importantly, increases width which makes portrait mode more usable for web browsing, etc than an X screen.
(Though I use an X, the lunch tray just wouldn't fit on my waist.)

IMO, there's little reason for anyone who owns an iPhone X to upgrade to an XS. The XS Max, on the other hand, brings a significant difference in the screen size. So I'm not surprised at all that the XS is being outsold. I expect the Xr to outsell it as well.

No surprise. If you are going to get a XS, may as well get the Max for an extra $100. The Xr will likely be the best seller, but the XS Max ain’t no slouch itself.

Surprised so many people are opting for the 512 gb model though. What are they storing on it?

I actually "downgraded" from an 8+ to an XS (minus) and not regretting it so far. That thing was too ****ing big for my taste. The same would apply to the XS Max.

Maybe the XR would have been a more intelligent buy, but I wanted the cameras and the OLED screen and I can afford it.

I'm glad that other than screen and battery the XS and the Max have similar specs.

By numbers, yes. But the X's screen was much more narrow than the 6/7/8 Plus screens. I upgraded from a 7 Plus to a X. Makes a huge difference.

Movies, pictures, musics, etc. iCloud is good if there is an internet connection. Free WiFi is nice but very risky to use due to the lowest internet security with the highest hacking risk. Never too much to have extra space to accommodate many needs offline.

I get that, but I have weeks worth of content on my 256GB iPhone, and I still have 100GB left, I have about 30-40 random games installed and ready to go, kindle books, 10 movies from iTunes and my photos library (Though it is synced to my 2TB icloud storage.) I've got apps/games/movies that I haven't even opened yet stored on there.

I remember being on 16GB and choosing to sync one movie, I guess I just don't get how people can possibly need 512GB at any one time. None of my laptops even have that much storage (I do have external thunderbolt storage for 4k video files from my cameras, but still I don't keep that on my devices directly.)

According to research, yes you are.
Anecdotal but I personally happen to know a whole lot of people (mostly women) who are pretty pissed at Apple for only making large devices now. For me the perfect device would be the 4.7" iPhone size without the bezel extension. So an iPhone X design that is basically 16:9, or maybe slightly taller so you can watch videos without the notch. Or rather the true perfect device would be 4.7" 16:9 with no notch, but that is a ways off.

Love my Max and Apple Watch, but I think for most people, with the amazing internals and extended battery life the XR will be the one one to get. Don’t get me wrong, love Max, but if anyone asked me about it, I would recommend they get the XR as the best value by far.

Use "Reachability" mode. A quick swipe down and those out of reach bits are suddenly well within reach! No need for 2 hands

After two years with a 7+ I'm ready to go back to a smaller phone... Or I think I am. I am waiting for the hype to die down to go to the Apple Store and handle the phones. Is the XR in store yet? Not for me, but that phone might be a good option for several family members, I would like to check it out at the same time.
