I'm very curious about this product. God knows the market could use some proper fresh innovation.

That said, it continues to strike me as a curious decision to make the device screenless.

Even a perfect AI voice assistant would be better with a screen in certain scenarios, as we are visual creatures just as much as we are auditory ones.

Why not give it both abilities? Why the insistence on a screenless device?

AI clown nose
LOL, yes. How about instead of a necklace they design it as a red clown-nose you wear all the time? Enough room for batteries and camera and speakers. Then you would present the appropriate fashion message.

Ive without Jobs is sort of lost. I think Steve helped form his ideas into useful products. Jony on his own is so obsessed with with button-less, screen-less gadgets he has forgotten about functionality.

;)

But I wish we stop calling it AI. I think it is more fitting if we call it Knowledge Assistants. But KA is not as cool sounding as AI.

I really thought they might integrate it into a wireless earbud carry case and connect directly to the buds for microphone and audio feedback.

People don't keep necklaces on their desk or in their pockets. The new device was previously described as something that could be in pocket or on desk. But I already have an iPhone in my pocket or on my desk... so wouldn't it make the most sense to add this functionality to my iPhone instead of creating a new device? I wonder whether this new company was founded with the intent to develop a technology that Apple could purchase and integrate into future iPhone or AppleWatch models?
We should really reserve judgement until we see the actual thing.

Lol. Someone posted that it would be a shuffle earlier today. A shuffle that connects to AI server. Easy to leave on your desk, unless it notices you are leaving with it's cameras and tells you to come back and get it.

Boy did some tech influencers really get over their skis on this thing yesterday. It’s two years away and appears to be in a form factor that has already failed. Sure, it might work, but it’s amazing to see all the people who bash Apple for foolishly hyping features not ready to ship dropping to their knees like shipwrecked sailors ready to drink seawater for a nonexistent product just because they’re bored with the current state of tech hardware.
I’d argue everyone believing this rumor is over their skis as well. Nothing is launching until next year but we’re supposed to believe some supply chain rumor from a guy who can’t even get Apple rumors right?

A solution in search of a problem...
Absolutely this.

Since time in memoriam tech has primarily saved us time, time credits we use for more interesting things.

We really are getting to the point where tech is saving us so much time we haven’t got anything left to do with our credits.

I can’t fathom what Ive’s device could do that an iPhone couldn’t.

I don't see it. What am I missing?

Your phone can do this. Would you really switch just to not have a screen? And only have a voice prompt? Granted it could have a button or two.

But it seems closer to torture. LIke voicemail or customer service automated voice system hell.

I completely don't get it.

You’re not missing anything. Nobody knows what this is. Certainly not Ming Chi Quo. But hey he gets all kinds of attention with every Apple/tech site running with his rumor.

Aaaaaand nope. I’m sorry, I just can’t see any tech working mainstream that immediately labels you as an invasive tech nerd to other people. Even if it sounds potentially exciting.
It also labels the person wearing it as not being able to think on their own. And eventually after using it all the time, surprise, you won't be able to think on your own. What is that old saying, "Use it or lose it."

Could someone tell me what advantages this would have over the Apple Watch (or Android Wear)? It's a simple question. I'm confused.

If they gonna start AI riot and this amulet will protect me from being chased by the robots, then owning it actually would make some sense. Otherwise I would just prefer to become older and use as less tech (especially anything AI) as I can:)

Star Trek called and wants their communicator badge back.

Seriously though, what's the UX? Voice command while walking? Just use airpods. voice command at the desk? talk to your phone or mac. And my watch is already always with me. The only advantage I can think of is it might connect to an AI that actually works.

I'm quite skeptical about VR glasses, both because of the cost of changing prescriptions, the limited frame style, battery life, and the general creepy glasshole factor.

Am I the only one that hates talking to technology? Sounds like a nightmare to me. I can hardly bring myself to ask Alexa to change a song, I'd rather press some button. Same reason I hate phone calls and never do FaceTime either. I'd rather write a wall of text for hours 😅

Gen MSN, AIM, ICQ forever

Same. I've never liked voice assistants and rarely use them.

Yes so true when I seen the pin it look like Star Trek badge, it failed really bad because the Ai tech was not ready and had a terrible battery life along with hologram that was not ready but really crude and many times did not work.

The pin was just not ready.

One thing about Apple is Apple brings out tech when the tech is ready and mature.

Just look at Microsoft tablets before iPad they where horrible slow, really big to hold and carry around, had noises fans and ran hot, terrible battery life, running windows XP not mobile friendly, and just way too early before tech was mature.

Apple waits for the tech to be ready and mature and bring out product that not prototype.
