I don’t have data in front of me, but I would bet the MacBook Air is Apple’s best selling laptop of all time, especially at $999. Not saying that the MBP wasn’t a best seller at some point in time, but I think overall, the Air would have edged it by now.

And I don’t think Apple would have to reduce the build cost for the 15”. Just look at how much more of a premium the iMac Pro is from the regular iMac. It’s huge. Or even from the iPad Pro from the new iPad Air. The iPad Pro is a 60% markup from the iPad Air.
what Can I do with a 6K screen?

The 5k serves me too good to have a real thing to do!

Still think there is a market for 27" Thunderbolt-display-like 5K $1000 monitor. The build quality of current $500-1000 4K monitors is just awful. But I guess this 6K monitor is gonna be like $2500 and it is gonna be the only option from Apple.

Why does it always feel like we are riding on the edge of tomorrow?

Apple: The company always that delivered.

Now...

Apple: The company that has the best pipeline.

Apple is really squeezing the R&D money spent to make this abysmal generation of MacBooks. They are reading the forums and they realize users are hanging onto their 2015 and even earlier models longer waiting to skip this generation.

I don't care what updated computers they release, as long as they fix the keyboard. Just put the magic keyboard in there. Claim it's amazing (because it's a good keyboard). Please. That's it. There's plenty of us that will shell out multiple grand on new machines if they just fix that one thing. There will be like a dozen mac podcasts spending hours giving them free marketing and saying they're "back on track" if they just do that. I honestly think as long as they release the new display, a user upgradable mac pro and fix the freaking keyboard, I'll agree with them. Oh yeah, and on my wish list, a new iPod classic. (128 gig ssd, up to 512 SSD, option for apple music or you can just buy from iTunes. Do it apple, people will buy it.)

There is no way Apple can keep Keyboard-gate around until 2021. Hopefully the 2019 MBP's get an internal key redesign even if they don't change the casing.

Personally, I think that Apple NOT releasing a new MacBook Pro with Face ID before the end of 2019 is a poor choice.

I imagine they’ve been working on all new designs. But even a slightly improved keyboard and Face ID seem reasonable for 2019.

I think the ‘radical redesign’ would be fine in a couple years, but the same chassis with Face ID and maybe a slightly better keyboard mechanism might be a nice ‘in between’ before the bigger change.

But for goodness sake; make the 2019 MacBook Pro have edge to edge curved display bits and Face ID!
Maybe 120HZ? My iPad shouldn’t be a better screen!e
The keyboard issue may not be ‘resolved’ in 2019, but even some effort would be appreciated.

Bigger Touch Bar with haptics? Yes please.
Make the trackpad Apple Pencil compatible? Sure?

Just a spec bump for 2019 is massively disappointing when everything Pro seems to be getting better and better.

I fully expect the Mac Pro and iMac Pro to be with the curved display corners and Face ID.

The MacBook Pro’s controversies invite it to be massively improved; but 2 more years of sub-par performance in keyboards and non-edge to edge displays will disappoint many, many MBP potential purchasers.
Make the Touch Bar something bigger and more useful! No haptics make it a far less inviting. Even the watch has those; they make a big difference.

I just really, really hope this is rumour is incorrect.

I’m impatiently waiting for the 2019
MacBook Pro to blow the 2018’s issues away, or at least minimise them. Even if it is just an incremental change to screen and Touch Bar size, it’ll make the MacBook Pro truly Pro.

My sources yell at me that the Mac Pro that will be unveiled at WWDC will ship before the end of 2019 in quantities.
A "normal" MacBook Pro update will happen in second half 2020 and the ARM based Macs will take over the lower sized models in 2021, following by a complete lineup change in 2022.

How do I know ... ? Well, if I would tell you, I have to ask you all to stayed quiet, and nobody here does that.

Man as a display geek, I just can't wait for that 6k screen!

It'll be physically bigger than than the 5k, and have more real estate in terms of scaled resolution, as well as at least similar sharpness to the 5k!

And the icing on the cake... Micro led should give us OLED like picture quality!

price: USD 25K.

Other sites are reporting that this is the 'new' 17" MacBook Pro that apple will release. I still think we'll have a redesign sometime in 2020 for the existing 13/15 line as Apple always redesigns every four years. Given the keyboard problems Apple has, coupled with the flex issue, I see no reason why they would extend their redesign period. I guess 2021 would mean a separate launch for the 17" MacBook pro so as not to eat into the sales of the redesigned MBP in 2020.

That sounds good to me. I’m probably one of the few who’d actually like a 17” laptop. Powerful like a desktop but still portable. Perfect combo for me :)
Me too. I want a macbook pro that’s as close to a portable Mac Pro as possible. For my work device, size and weight has never been a problem for me (caveat below), but for big projects, performance has. We’re probably too small of a niche for Apple to care, but if this new MBP is more focused on performance than portability than the current line, how happy I would be.

Caveat—I have to add that while I love the idea of a 17” laptop, one thing I also like is being low-key. The good thing about 15” laptops is they fit in normal looking backpacks. A 17” laptop might require a special larger backpack and draw attention, so that has me a little on the fence. I don’t mind thicker laptops at all though.

Is anything not delayed with Tim Cook's Apple?
I drove by their new HQ at Tantau and around Cupertino in general today. They must have 100+ buildings by now. I have no idea what all these people are doing? Legitimately.

It does explain though how everyone must be stepping onto each other's feet which is why nothing gets delivered anymore.

Apple coming in strong with odd display sizes.

Usability has not been top of the list of priorities for them over the past decade. No doubt Craig has a hilarious quip about how great Animoji look on on 16.23954 inch liquid retina super pro motion super cornea 5.5K screen.

This is the only Apple computer I’m interested in as a capable replacement for my 2009 17” MBP, whose battery is currently bulging out & threatening to burn my house down.

So as to avoid disappointment, I’m prepared for it to have a flimsy butterfly keyboard, a mandatory touchbar, a total lack of useful i/o, and be underspec’d and priced to the friggin moon. I’m not happy about the continual loss of quality features in Apples products, but I’ll live. But if it doesn’t come out for two years, that leaves a big hole for Microsoft to fill with Surface Book 3. ...while Apple still fights putting together an entry into the Pro Tablet realm.

It sounds like it’s going to coincide with Sapphire Rapid processors, which should allow for much cooler running, lighter weight and better battery at a significant performance boost.

They should, theoretically, provide some of the biggest year-over-year boosts in processing of the last 10 years.
