Where are the OLED Macs and iPads?

The new Mac Pro?

A pair of upgraded/premium tier AirPods?

A working keyboard for the laptops?

Have not been impressed with Apple’s pace of innovation lately!

Tim Cook never cared for innovation, it died with Steve Jobs.

keyboard change will take another year, its not that easy for them to overhaul or have complete design change.

At least it helps me decide: no more MacBook Pro for me then! That leaves... I dunno... going back to Windows? Sure it was pretty bad, but it wasn't that bad... You could at least replace the batteries and the keyboard would keep working forever no matter what.

Where are the OLED Macs and iPads?

LOL with OLED Macs. PC's don't have OLED technology yet in mass quantities and you expect Apple to leap frog the PC competition and jump straight to OLED? No way. Recall that Apple isn't manufacturing these displays but rather relying on 3rd party manufacturers to make these panels. If those manufacturers don't think it is economically feasible to create these panels, they won't. Apple is helpless. OLED is still not proven technology in the personal computer space, not many manufacturers are creating OLED displays in the 13"-15" size (for laptops) and forget desktop monitor sizes!

More evidence that Apple has reached the end of their hardware innovation rope, following their abandoning of printers, networking devices, monitors and desktop hardware. Not surprising because there has been precious little actually innovation in that market in general for over five years, only a disagreement in whether Microsoft's Surface in it's merging of laptop and tablet is better than Apple's movement to merging phones and tablets.

Consequently, Apple is "maturing" away from innovating hardware in favor of innovating services. Apple lives and dies on name recognition and huge operating profit margins and laptops, like tablets and phones are becoming commodities. Time will tell whether Tim's stewardship will be a success or not. I am not convinced it will though. Time for me to sell direct ownership of AAPL.

so what are you going to buy then?

No idea, but it's for work so I need to start researching what would make a good fit sooner than later. I'll still wait to see if anything good happens in June, but I need to be more proactive, regardless. Up until now I've always just hopped on Apple.com and bought the machine with the specs that meets my needs. I may even do an Apple desktop paired with a less expensive laptop.

I suppose some people have no issue with their keyboards. I've just seen the frustration my brother has had with his 2016. From what I understand (and have read here) they have gotten a little better each year since then.

And just like every other laptop released by Apple since 2015, if it has that butterfly keyboard I won't be buying it. Even if the keyboard was improved to be like the 2015 MacBook Pro versions, it still always irked me that the old 17" laptops (of which I probably owned 6 or so over the years) didn't include a numeric pad. The 17" laptop's tiny keyboard always looked "wrong" surrounded by so much aluminum on the left and right...
I never got what the deal was with sticking a num pad on a laptop computer. It just looks like
I know it is sometimes practical, but come on.
I had the 17" MBP and never complained about the keyboard being disproportionate.

the surface laptops would be perfect if not for the absence of usb c but if they release one this year with it and a polished OS update, many will consider that.

Just purchased a 2018 MBP in July so I’m kind of relieved, now I won’t have FOMO until 2021. Maybe I’ll even trade in for the redesigned one then.

but that MacBook keyboard won't last until when the new MacBook will be released in that year

I can't read the research note, but it looks to me that it may be saying that the first mini-LED Macbook Pros may be coming in 2021, not the re-design that was rumored earlier. That may still come this year, along with (hopefully) a fix to the keyboards.

Again, I can't read the actual text, but the note mentions mini-LED next to each product, and maybe mentions a supplier. That seems to me to suggest that this is an research note regarding Apple's roll-out of Mini-LED tech, not a note about general product updates.

I think I'll take a pass.

I'm going to hold out for the 16k 9.7" MBP. The one with the nano-scale "triceratops" keyboard mechanism because I find the butterfly mechanism is FAR too reliable, and also way too FAT! I want a keyboard that has a mere 3 microns of vertical travel!

Ideally, I'd like my next iOS device to be so thin that despite being made of ordinarily opaque metal, it manages to be translucent like onion skin. And I won't pay a penny less than $20,000 for it. Hear me APPLE?!? And you better not have any headphone jacks, USB ports, or frankly... ANY ports. I don't care if you seal it entirely all the way around, but it BETTER not be waterproof. I'll tell you that right now.

And so help me if the next MBP I buy isn't obsolete before I get it back to my car, Apple...

A few months ago, well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo outlined his expectations for new Apple products in 2019, including a 16" to 16.5" MacBook Pro, 31.6" 6K standalone display, and a 10.2" iPad. In a follow-up research note, however, Kuo has revised some of his details and timing.

Kuo now predicts that Apple will release a new 15" to 17" MacBook Pro in the first half of 2021 and a new 10" to 12" iPad between the fourth quarter of 2020 and the first quarter of 2021. He still expects the 31.6" 6K Apple Display to launch in either the second or third quarter of this year.

Economic Daily News chart based on Kuo note

Kuo's latest research note was first covered in Chinese by the Economic Daily News and MoneyDJ, so we're relying on a machine translation, and it is possible some details have been mistranslated. We'll update this article if necessary once we receive a first-hand copy of the note in English.

Kuo's original research note said the new MacBook Pro will feature an "all-new design." He also said Apple may add a 32GB RAM option to the 13" MacBook Pro. As for the 6K Apple Display, Kuo said it will have "outstanding picture quality thanks to its adoption of a Mini LED-like backlight design."

Kuo's original research note also called for several other new Apple products in 2019, including a trio of new iPhones with larger batteries and two-way charging, a new iPod touch, a new iPad mini, new AirPods, and the AirPower. Some of those products launched last month, while the AirPower was canceled.

Dang. So does this mean I should stop waiting for a new MBP unless I want to wait 2 more years?

Apple does not want you to postpone your purchase and this “updated” info serves exactly this purpose.
I have very mixed feelings about the current situation and seriously consider to jump ship.

Interesting how rumors develop this year. Don’t remember so many so long time ahead predictions.

A 17" MBP will probably be ARM-based. A very strong arm! Portable? Remember the original Compaq luggable?

I have definitely been missing 17" screen size for my laptop, especially out in the field. Since its dismission, the Apple "Pro" moniker started a change in meaning for me

I hope you are joking, right? The touchbar is just really wasted resources, time and money. Even in the video it shows its shortcomings as you can do all these things way faster and efficient than that.
I do have it but hardly use it because its just useless gimmick that breaks your workflow for no reason. You just simply can't beat the speed with other UI devices. Its just another failed attempt just like the new keyboard.

It looks like it gives what were once static buttons the ability to do different things in different programs. I'm sure it doesn't take away the ability to do the same things with your trackpad, the way we did them pre Touch Bar. I don't see any shortcomings, just an extra way to do tasks.
