For me, it's more of a why is it taking so long to put in a USB-C port when other devices already have it? It shouldn't take them up to 2.5 years (assuming they ship late in the second half of 2025) to integrate the USB-C controller and port into the case and mass-produce them.
Because none of it is engineering challenges.

There are literally billions of lightning compatible devices still in use, which makes it a difficult ship to turn around. Many who buy a USB-C iPhone will also have the expense of changing out their charging ecosystem, and they likely still have lightning-powered accessories for several years which means it doesn't make anything easier for _the customer_.

No other vendor has the number of devices or brand ecosystem to make it a problem.

“We” disagree.
Why wouldn't you want your earbuds to match the color of your phone, make them both look consistent, both black or both space grey? You can do it with airpods max, but not with regular airpods yet.

We need some examples...
I'm not the original author, but decades of experience with things going on/over or in ears probably needs some filtering ("so much better than the sound quality or short cord length of the free ear buds they give you on long-haul flights").

I would posit the original question was poorly asked, such as instead wanting to say "but what headphones in a similar market quality do you have experience with? here, I'll give my counter experience based on some Sony or Bose of Sennheiser or etc product and how they are significantly better than the APM"

I know you're not, but still someone should give some comparison examples.

Hopefully, Apple worked out the issues with the rumored interchangeable headbands and touch controls on the ear cups that couldn’t make it to production.

My wallet will rest easier this year thanks to this news.

I made no such statements. I remarked on the “we” part because the way you phrased your post sounded as if you had authority to speak on the behalf of many when all you’re doing is stating what you want.

Personally, apple in plugs have been white for two decades and I have no problem if they stay that way.

Don't get me started on the bra case.
Ive decided they dont come with a case, its just a sheath to put them in when they're sitting around that protects from dust but still shows off the design somewhat.

I bought an actual case for traveling, but they dont go in there when they're sitting around at home.

Looking at it that way, im all good.

Mass shipments of second-generation AirPods Max and more affordable AirPods will likely begin in the second half of 2024 or the first half of 2025, according to the latest information shared by Apple supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

In a series of tweets today, Kuo said Apple is aiming for a $99 price for the more affordable standard AirPods. Currently, the $129 second-generation AirPods are the cheapest option from Apple, while the third-generation AirPods are priced at $169 with a Lightning charging case and at $179 with a MagSafe case. This is the second time lower-priced AirPods have been rumored in as many weeks following a prediction from analyst Jeff Pu.

Kuo did not offer any additional details about the new AirPods Max. Apple's premium over-ear noise canceling headphones were first released in December 2020 for $549, and we've previously outlined new features that would make sense for the next-generation pair, such as a USB-C port instead of Lightning, improved noise cancelation, longer battery life, new color options, a U1 chip for Precision Finding in the Find My app, and more.

Is the Bra carrying case now included? LMAO

I find Macrumors' usage of the phrase 'as early as' in several articles to be really weird.
You don't say that in an early-Jan article.

I hope it still comes in pink. As long as they still aren't suitable for outdoor use because of sweat or rain, then I want to feel pretty while wearing them indoor.

Hopefully someone at Apple has bought a pair of Sonys or Bathys and embraced the opportunity to listen to what a pair of premium cordless headphones should sound like. The overall experience of using APMs with Apple devices was as seamless as no other, but you're deaf if you think they competed sonically with the best at that price.

Bought both my kids a pair og Sony xm5. 229 each past holidays and no tax. It doesn’t really matter what apple has planned for its AirPod max.

Usb c. Fast charging. It’s own app. Better battery. Case. The list goes on.

Made for a quiet drive when we went on back to back cruises this past Xmas.

I have the Sony from the previous generation (xm4?) and while ok in use the APM were way easier to use with multiple devices, switched faster and more reliable, and sounded better. The Sony sounds ok but doesn’t excel at any genre I throw at it.

I use the included case for travelling because it saves a massive amount of space in my bag vs. a fully enclosed case. They don't need a ton of special protection because I'm packing them next to like a book and an extra sweater -- not a bunch of rocks and sand. I guess if I was going camping or something I'd get something more substantial?

I know I raved about my AirPods Max, buying them soon after they are released. I still like them, but Apple really needs to step it up with a new "high end" headphone. Soon.

Currently I am also using Bowers & Wilkins Px8, and Master & Dynamics MW75. Sound quality wise the Px8 and the MW75 really have better sound quality, with equal build quality to the AirPods Max. Note, the AirPods Max certainly plays well with Apple devices, and IMHO sound better than the aforementioned headphones while viewing movies via AppleTV. But, straight up listening to music the Px8 and the MW75 have higher quality sound.

Yes, the Px8 and the MW75 cost at least $200.00 more, and the discounted pricing of the AirPods Max make it difficult to leave the Apple "walled garden". But if you are currently looking for the best sound in BT headphones some non-Apple brands can offer better sound.

So that is the challenge Apple. Improve the sound quality (lossless pretty please), keep the build quality, and maybe, just maybe keep the cost reasonable within in the realm of high end BT headphones.

Certainly one can argue that Apple doesn't really want to compete in "high end" BT headphone market. If so, so be it. It is nice to have choices.View attachment 2140938
In the market for one and also looking at MW75 and Px8, wonder which one sounds better? Had APM but the battery didn't hold the charge in sleep/idle mode so sold it.
