Personally, not thrilled by MagSafe, unless you can still charge by usb-c. I have 90’ish watt USB-C chargers everywhere I need them, and it’s nice to be able to plug in any of the family’s macs, ipads, etc. when necessary.
Safe to assume it would have MagSafe AND Type-C charging and not MagSafe-only. I’m not an insider, just reasonable that if MagSafe comes back, Type-C will also remain as the “One Cable Docking Station” option.
Bringing back the USB-A and HDMI ports in addition to Type-C will be very welcome.

Am I the only person to prefer the Touch Bar to the keys? It wasn’t ground breaking and all as they claimed it would be, but it was a step up from fixed keys that was a baggage from the mainframe era.
I'm not discounting the possibility that something like the Touch Bar (specifically, non-fixed keys, however that is achieved) can improve human-computer interactions. The Touch Bar as it exists now, however, is a bloody terrible experience.

Generally people who are proficient in typing on a keyboard will rest their fingers on the keys, as they require a certain amount of force to activate and resting your hands somewhere allows some muscles to be slightly more relaxed, but the Touch Bar requires zero force to activate, so resting your fingers there will end up triggering some complex task like AirPlay or some app function if the app implements Touch Bar controls. This is, and I wish this wasn't the case, a horrible experience and it should never have been released in the way it is now.

If they could give it something like Force Touch where some amount of force is required to trigger functions on the Touch Bar (and perhaps even some tactility via Taptic Engine) then it would be a very different story.

Unless you happen to use multiple external displays via TB3/USB-C. Every time they include a HDMI port, you lose a potential DisplayPort over TB3/USB-C display.

I'm skeptical of this rumour, but it doesn't surprise me that the "my desired single use port is more important" crowd is pleased by it.

Why provide a port that can do ****ing anything, when you can provide a port designed to do literally one thing.

could see the whole magsafe thing to be honest...as an air user the Touch Bar has never interested me anyway but this will be interesting.

Seems to be the laptop I was dreaming of since my 2012 MacBook Pro! All boxes checked. Great! Please be real...please be real...please be real...

3. The MagSafe charging connector design is restored.
No, no and once again NO. If the cord is again soldered to the power supply, then this will be the end of the story. They decomposed from any impact.

And stop, i have monitors with Thunderbolt 3 at work, at home, etc... , why i should stop charging them with UCB-C to use stupid MagSafe cable once again? Really? What is going on?

The old keyboard, like on the 16th model, is worse in perception and tactile sensations than with a butterfly-type mechanism.

But what about the concern for the environment, already a dozen adapters, and here - "the guys, they are not needed". Why?

Do you know what's going on? They just couldn't do Thunderbolt 3/4 properly and end up returning to the separate port design. In which dust, dirt will clog with use. M1 cannot handle two/three displays properly, has USB spec restriction and so on.

Enough time has passed, there is no stable docker implementation, no virtualization, no Windows in bootcamp. M1 products are just a video transcoder/decoder typewriters.

Farewell Apple if this all **** is true.

Ports! Hope this is true. Apple says it cut the power brick for the environment, well, buying dongles does not help it.

So some sanity at Apple has been restored. All these audacious ideas of removing the Fn keys in favor of a gimmicky Touch bar and removing the MegSafe connectors were totally stupid to begin with. And Apple managed to force these on their loyal customers for a hefty price!

As I follow *Mac, a Decade*, policy waiting for 2023 December for replacing my older Retina 15.6 inch MBP....

I would far prefer to see the retention of the TB / USBC ports over a new MagSafe cable. I have zero issues with the current models in this regard.
SD card slot would be very appreciated. Nothing else is required for my use, but those who do a lot of presentations may welcome some extra video ports.

Re - Touch Bar. Dont love it, but I still prefer it over physical static keys.

For me though the note of 3rd quarter release is disapointing. May have to get that MBA as a temp machine now for my home use.

i bet because of the new changes, Apple will lose 1 user, you, but gain 100 instead
Butterfly keyboard maybe was ok, until it failed for most of the users....if the reliability wasnt an issue then i agree with you but that wasnt the case...
You will still have 4 usb-C/usb4 ports as before
M1 SoC cannot handle 1 display maybe..because you can have 1 external monitor and 1 slidecare ipad 13" display side by side...so the M1 still can hadle two displays....maybe you wanted to say he cant handle 2/3 external monitors
but with the next 14" and 16" that will be not the case

MagSafe could refer to built in MagSafe chargers to charge your phone, AirPods etc, as other rumours have indicated. It makes no sense to build the old style MagSafe into the socket - just include the breakaway connection in the cable, no need for a bespoke port.

I also can't see Apple bringing back USB-A.

Also I'll miss the Touch Bar - just add haptics to it, that's all it needs!

As I said in the gurman thread

the current pros have a curved bottom and lid with flat sides.

I expect the them to lose the curves and go flat with a thicker lid for 1080p, it’ll probably look like a two iPad Pros together when closed.

I want

M2
Superb display with maybe mini LED
Smaller bezels
1080p cam
Really dark space gray or black
Flat industrial iPad/iPhone design

I don’t care about MagSafe, although it could be a MagSafe charger for the port less iPhone?

not bothered about the Touch Bar but want Touch ID at least if no Face ID.

Well done to the people at Apple who faced reality and said "get rid of the Touchbar forever"

yep, you are on something that can become true...but dont expect M2 on the 14", only on the 16"

I'd be amazed if they completely ditch the touch bar in favour of bog-standard function keys like on the macbook air. I'd see that as a definite downgrade. I much prefer using my 2018 15" with touch bar than Macbook Air without. But seems like I'm in the minority!

nope , Mark also said that magsafe is used to charge even faster your MBP.
Doesn’t mean it’s true. We don’t know all the train of communications involved in these rumours getting to us, there’s plenty scope for misunderstandings along the way.

I just find it hard to believe Apple would (re-)introduce a dedicated charging port when USB-C does a fine job whilst also being a universal port. I’m sceptical about them adding back *any* non-USB C ports, it would be so un-Apple. What’s next - they’re adding the headphone port back to iPhones?

Of course that’s just my speculation/feeling and it’s worth bugger all!
