Regarding MagSafe, there's no way Apple will return to the old design, with the unreliable spring-loaded pins and heating issues.

How much can the iPhone 12 MagSafe "puck" be miniaturized? Is something akin to that possible?

Or perhaps it'll still charge via USB-C, and MagSafe 3 will be an optional accessory/dongle...

In any case, I'll be shocked if we just get unmodified MagSafe 2 again. It's been five years.
They probably make an attachment that plugs into the usbc port so you can ise magsafe with a rage of products. That way it can be sold separately.

I was never impressed with the Touch Bar. It seemed more gimmick than useful and seemed to reduce battery life significantly from the tests I read. Good to add more ports back in and a MagSafe adapter (will be interesting to see how it is implemented). The de-Ive'ing of products is continuing! At some point, form should not detract significantly from function.

I believe all of it except the Touch Bar.
Interesting, yeah, I can see that; it's not like people who actually use it can replace that functionality (built into the machine, I mean).
I do really wish I could make it part of my workflow, but it just never "sticks" for me.

Removal of the Touch Bar will be a decadence. People that complains about the Touchbar uses separate keyboards and extra monitors, not even use as a MacBook. If Apple do not have as optional and just remove, will show how bias can be that “researches” and how they are looking for few screamers and forgetting the loyal customers that just want the new tech and not the “attachment” to classic things like Functions Buttons (gasp) and analog headphones ports.
Could you say that again, but in English?

With all respect to the counter view, I honestly think Touch Bar was great in terms of both aesthetics and functionality as I commonly used it to style text on MS Word, managing music on Spotify, moving files to trash with one touch, etc. I like adding emojis through it which was nice to see many colorful objects (emojis) on this LCD view. So, I'd prefer it to be optional for the new Macs. And, many people, who don't own a MacBook, like it though. The Touch Bar is the unique hardware of MacBooks compared to other premium notebooks.

On the flip side, other than HDMI, it's probably the second-most-requested port, thanks to 99.99% of thumb drives not working with Macs unless you happen to have an adapter with you.

It makes far too much sense to include though. I simply refuse to believe their reality distortion field could have been penetrated this far!

But ok, if they were to decide to include such a legacy (ewww) old-fashioned looking port then perhaps on the laptop's underside so it's out of the way? Magic Mouse style. :D

Cannot wait to get my hands on these in-store, and to see what the M1(+) and graphics specs are. Take mah moneh.
That'll be the only place you'll be getting your hands on these for months if you wait and don't order immediately.

There are ads on YouTube?
Please tell us how you avoid ads on Youtube! It has become so obnoxious that I've basically given up.

As for all these rumours... As we know, Apple often have various prototype models. It's possible that Apple deliberately (or not) allowed one of these prototype machines to be leaked.

But these two guys do have good track records so more true than not if I were to bet on it. I'm good with whatever they do at this point as long as it's a 16 inch screen!

They didn't mention FaceID and MiniLED so does that mean those features are out?

I wonder if you'll still be able to charge via USB-C if it has magsafe? To fit all these extra ports does that mean we'll get a smaller battery? To make up for this, no touchbar?

If they do dump the touchbar and go back to normal function keys, expect not a single word about it at the event. They'll just gloss over it like the touchbar never existed.

3Q release... mmm... Surely that means July. Announced at WWDC like the original rMBP and released in July. Hopefully it's not September/October. That's iPhone release time, isn't it? If so, then it's possibly got a M2 in it. If they don't do until end of 3Q they'll have a big hole in the middle of the year.

When the laptops come out, order one when they are available, even if it's 3 AM or you'll wind up like those here waiting six weeks or longer for an M1.

I use Firefox with UBlock Origin on macOS/Windows and Brave Browser as the default browser on iOS and iPadOS. I stopped watching YouTube on the iPad using Safari because the ads were so obnoxious. Then Apple allowed you to set the default browser so links opened in Brave.

If we could also get a 120hz display it would be the cherry on the top of this very promising refresh.

Honestly, I understand I may be in the minority here, but I like having the current ports - my TS3+ Dock is always connected anyways and provides all my legacy ports, while all my external drives are mainly TB3, and a few USB-C.....and I don't mind the Touch Bar at all. Sure, I don't use it a hell of a lot, but I don't see what all the fuss is about. Its always worked perfectly fine for me, and I'm happy with it.
This is coming from an almost max spec MBP16 owner - no plans to upgrade any time soon!

Something like the iPad smart connector, perhaps?

But honestly, that is the point of having those ports on a computer. If you need them, they are just there. Someone with an old camera gives you an SD-card to copy pictures. It might only happen 1-2 times a year, but if you don't have it its annoying. and the SD slot is so slim, I don't think that space constraints it. Same with 1-2 USB A ports. Rarely use it, but there are situations when you just get someone's USB drive to copy a couple of files.
Same with HDMI, if you need to give a talk somewhere and prefer to bring your computer, in 99% of the cases they at least have an HDMI cable.

I also very rarely use these ports. But it's a professional machine and I expect things to just work, so honestly at least an SD slot, single USB-A and HDMI port would be quite helpful. On the contrary, I think old Thunderbolt cables are quite rare and used in special circumstances, probably mostly at your desk, so a dongle is alright.
This exactly. I've used the "pro" level of mac laptops for literally decades, and having a variety of i/o is one of the exact features that made them pro machines. There were a bunch of situations where a port i never used before suddenly became a life-saver in an emergency situation and saved my ass. That's exactly the type of power a pro-level machine has to have.

And that opportunity cost is that for the 99% of the time when you are not using said port, it's just there taking up space and doing nothing.

USB-C is the perfect port to go all in on, because there's no longer such a thing as a wrong port. With the right adaptor, you can transform the usb-c port on your laptop into any port (or any combination of ports) you want. You even have the flexibility of charging your Macbook from any side you wish. You lose that advantage with specialised, standalone ports like HDMI or a proprietary MagSafe port, simply because not everyone is going to need them.

I have also spoken earlier about how I don't think MagSafe even makes sense any more today. There used to be a legitimate use case for it when laptops had very short battery life and people found themselves constantly tethered to wall outlets. With M1 Macs, I foresee people just opting to leave them charging overnight (like what we currently do with iPhones and iPads) and just using them unplugged throughout the rest of the day. And they will certainly have enough juice to last a day. As such, I don't think MagSafe even fits in that well with people's usage patterns of their laptops any more.

A new form factor will sell, especially if it helps symbolise a break from Intel. Touch Bar has been controversial as well, and I am indifferent to it staying or going.

It may well be that Apple is looking to walk back some of the more unpopular design decisions of the current Macs, but I am not sure they even make sense anyone in today's environment.

I have no idea what a flat edged design means. But if Apple is getting rid of the touchbar and adding ports with Magsafe I do not know how I cannot buy a new 16" MPB as soon as it becomes available. This sounds amazing to me. It reminds me of the old dear MBP from five years ago -- a machine I dearly love.

Completely flat bottom of the case and complete flat top (when the laptop is closed). Right now, they are curved at the edges.
