Well, it's possible. Apple already cut off a cheap (for Apple) charging cable just to cut cost. The current Apple is about nickel and diming every single thing possible, so I can actually see a $99 Apple TV without the remote. Apple's excuse will be to use your iphone.

As an owner of Vizio television sets, Vizio has shipped me a set without the remote. "Use your phone to control it" they said. After a class-action lawsuit, they shipped everyone a remote for free. Prior to that, they actually shipped sets without a TV tuner in them because "nobody watches OTA TV anymore, people use a box or have cable". After another lawsuit, they put tuners back in their products.

It's not unheard of. It sounds like something Tim Apple would do.

Remote not included. :)

Ha my thinking exactly. Even lower price, and what else are they going to cut out?

People downvoted you, but someone replied to me just the other day saying they never use the remote, only the iPhone, remote isn’t necessary.

Save the link to this post, you’ll be quoting it soon enough.

I don’t think it’s apple‘s way to just lower the price. Heck, they never even updated for 3 year before last years update. I would expect some type of watered down product just like removing Ethernet. Sure could design manufacturing further cheap as possible. More to come with reasons or end game.

And here everyone was in the other thread ******** on me for saying Apple needed a <$99 Apple TV!

Until they get below that price point it's a niche device that will never compete. HomeKit will remain a third rate system as well. Apple needs cheaper devices to get in people's homes.

I wish Apple would just make a TV instead of solely offering a box.

Imagine a TV with high build quality, screens, and the software built right into it.
What’s the point of a TV with high build quality. Mine is mounted to the wall and the only thing it experiences is a mild earthquake every 8+ years or so.

I’ve had 32GB Apple TV 4K 1st gen since 2018 and I never complaint about it being out of storage. That is with some hefty game download from Arcade.

I have nothing against the extra space, I’m just saying it’s not a critical part for a device that will spend 99% of its life stream contents.

Now if Apple allows it to store photos, files and download movies off its TV app then yeah I’d go with 128GB.
