I appreciate the optimists but I think people have to deal with reality: Apple from 2010~2012 is NOT the same company as in 2022.

2022 Apple sells old products repackaged with new case, at ridiculously high prices: if you want an Apple product for $99 (and it already looks like a gift, knowing the company) you buy a HomePod mini with a CPU of a 2019 Apple Watch or maybe an hdmi adapter. Apple for $99 doesn't even sell a Pencil.
This is so true. The real Apple with Steve Jobs in control is dead. Great great products at reasonable price levels this was Apples golden age.

2022 the product fragmentation is laughable. The products themselves are lacklustre to begin with.

Then the pricing, absolutely plucked from thin air to mug off all customers. No justifiable reason for their pricing from a technology point of view. It’s all tried and tested old technology decades old.

With matter now starting to come into fruition, it’s a shame that they excluded thread from the Apple TV apart from the top tier unit.

Yep - Apple need a stick too.

It’s not just about price. You can’t take over people’s homes without a strategy for small TVs in kitchens and bedrooms.
I think they have one. It’s just more elegant. Take over the devices they are buying. They were already selling hundreds of millions devices every year. Now top TVs from all the major brands support Apple TV out of the box, no stick needed.

Part 2 is Apple TV+ Hit original series to drive services.

3rd is Sports with MLB, MLS, and now the push to get NFL for which they have the unique ability to open up international streaming in ways none of the other competitors can. Once they get streaming rights for this and the NBA, all bets are off.

This doesn’t even include AR/VR Gaming that is coming and likely the reason for the new Apple TV’s increase power and storage at a lower price point. Or the inclusion of Samsungs streaming format to appease their phone and tablet customers and make it easier for them to by aN ATV for the above mentioned items.

Ha my thinking exactly. Even lower price, and what else are they going to cut out?

People downvoted you, but someone replied to me just the other day saying they never use the remote, only the iPhone, remote isn’t necessary.

Save the link to this post, you’ll be quoting it soon enough.
I don't understand the problem. What's wrong with selling a cheaper version without a remote for people who won't use it anyway?

Don't know what prices are to rent or buy movies in the USA, but here in Asia the movie rentals and purchases on Apple tv are always 20% higher than Google. I have Iphones/tabs and a couple friends run most everything Apple and all of us agree that there's absolutely no reason why we need to purchase this thing.
The price for Netflix, Disney, Prime, YouTube etc. are the same regardless of what device you stream on.

The new Apple TV 4K announced today already has a lower starting price of $129, compared to $179 for the previous model, but analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes that the next-generation Apple TV could be sold at an even lower price point.

Apple-TV-4K-2022.jpeg

In a tweet today, Kuo said a sub-$100 price would be the "sweet spot" for the Apple TV and added that he expects the next-generation model to be "more affordable."

Both the second-generation (2010) and third-generation (2012) models of the Apple TV were priced at $99 at launch, and Apple eventually lowered the price of the third-generation model to $69, so there is precedent for a sub-$100 Apple TV, which would better compete with low-priced streaming devices sold by Google, Amazon, and Roku.

Another possibility is that when the next Apple TV launches, the model announced today remains in the lineup for around $99.

In the meantime, the latest Apple TV 4K is certainly a better value than its predecessor. Even if Apple is attempting to upsell customers to the $149 model with 128GB of storage, Ethernet, and Thread support, that device is still a better value than the previous model with 32GB of storage for $179 or 64GB storage for $199.

Honestly if it’s truly cheaper, nothing. But now we’re talking about Chromecast territory, so like $30. They’re not gonna make it that cheap.

But, can you imagine how much a 75" Studio Display would cost? Apple never made a TV because they're expensive to ship, expensive to stock and Apple can't sell them for a reasonable price and keep its profit margin up.
In the U.K, satellite TV provider Sky, (owned by Comcast) offer a product called Sky Glass.

Its essentially a big posh streaming TV (available in 45/55/65” sizes) for all of the various Sky TV packages, NETFLIX, Prime Video etc (It also does 4K, HDR and has Dolby Atmos speakers).

You make recordings that are saved to the cloud, so it literally does just stream.

If Sky can do it, surely there’s no way Apple can’t.

Recordings saved to your iCloud account, Apple TV & + apps baked in, along with Netflix, Prime Video, Photos app etc.

Sound like a potential winner to me.

Lesson learned, always wait for the next generation… I’ve already said in the other post, this one will be on sale for $99 within the next 6 months tops - that’s when I’m gonna buy it
Pretty much. And, with where the US economy is going to be by the beginning of March, it's almost certain the new Apple TV 4K will be on sale at Amazon.

I wish Apple would just make a TV instead of solely offering a box.

Imagine a TV with high build quality, screens, and the software built right into it.
thanks Lord, they aren't making it. Would be such a waste of their resources and our $$$.

He was right about literally everything, the date, the iPads, the macs, etc
No he wasn't and he changed his claims a dozen plus times in recent months. He also claimed we'd see new MBP models in October. Now he says that won't happen. He continuously moves the goal posts and some people eat it up and ignore such.

This would be a bad idea, imagine the chip inside being outdated after a couple years. Do people really want to upgrade their entire TV that often? No they do not. It's much easier to just buy a good quality TV to be the display only and that will last for many years, and update the box that controls it (AppleTV) for way less money. There is barely any convenience putting that box permanently inside the TV, especially with how easy it is to mount an AppleTV to the back side of a TV. I would much much much rather have them keep it separate like they currently are.

I am surprised Apple has not bundled the Apple TV hardware with one of their existing plans. Something like Xfinity with their 4K streaming box.

Xfinity hardware are pieces of junk, probably cheaply made so they can afford to do that
The concept the idea. Apple seems to be moving toward more subscriptions model. The Xfinity model. Subscriptions not limited to cheap devices. FYI, had their box for 6 months. Never had a blip with it. If I chose to move from the Apple system, free reliable box, easy choice.
