I wish Apple would just make a TV instead of solely offering a box.

Imagine a TV with high build quality, screens, and the software built right into it.
So you want to upgrade your TV every time a new feature comes out? Isn't it way better to only need a new box that connects to your TV? Way less expensive, and way easier to upgrade.

You know Apple wouldn't pull out all the stops on the first TV. They'd make you want to buy the next one and the next one and so on.

TV Stand optional, $299 for tilt stand. $399 for swivel heigh adjustable stand. $499 for Pro model with wheel stand. Anodised finishing are optional.

Why can't they make the remote use mag-safe charging instead of just USB? Surely the new USB-C watch charger is up to the task.

Don't know what prices are to rent or buy movies in the USA, but here in Asia the movie rentals and purchases on Apple tv are always 20% higher than Google. I have Iphones/tabs and a couple friends run most everything Apple and all of us agree that there's absolutely no reason why we need to purchase this thing.

I was considering getting and air. But now with the new base models they seem close and cheaper. Is this right. Not sure I need an email die browsing and emails.

How long has it taken for Apple to realise they need to compete against competitors offering much cheaper alternatives before they lower their price? How many potential Apple TV customers have chosen Amazon fire sticks/cubes because Apples only option was a £179 Apple TV box? They enter the market late, much like they’ve done with their streaming channels and demand higher prices for a service that is lacking.

Apple would get destroyed. It’s cutthroat and super competitive. You can now get a 65” mini LED TV with amazing picture quality for $1,500 from Hisense. Apple is too cheap to put a mini LED display into an 11” iPad that sells for $700. I don’t even want to think about what Apple is likely to charge for a 65” mini LED TV.

atv could really become a Mac Mini. I mean it's got the power. It has a monitor out. Plus wifi or ethernet if you need it. The chip is fast. not sure what ram is ...except im sure it's a little lite. 128gb storage - half the Mini. it's got BT for peripherals.

OS probably has to be iPad OS.

...the takeaway for me is basic efficient desktop pcs are going to get much cheaper & smaller in the future ... OR at least there's no technical reason for them not to.

I definitely agree that the lack of find my capabilities for two years in a row is a big miss from Apple. I don't know why they are not adding the U1 chip in the remote
Probably shortens the charging interval- but yes would still be desirable

With this and last heads Apple TV updates, and the new Fire TV Cube, isn’t it about time Nvidia finally updates the Shield TV? It has a ‘few’ tricks left up it’s sleeves but not many, and it’s still more expensive then the other two. I’d love to have both an Apple TV and Shield TV but I can’t bring myself to buy a Shield TV as it’s so old now.

Apple seems to want to be pretty aggressive in this market place now.

Why though? I even hate smart TVs (regardless of brands or OS), I would rather just save some money and buy a dumb 65" OLED panel and plug in Apple TV box for it. But alas, no dumb TVs nowadays because everything is "smart" and try to collect data from you.

They never would. Because TVs usually last longer than 7 years. Nobody wants an expensive TV going all obsolete on them.

I appreciate the optimists but I think people have to deal with reality: Apple from 2010~2012 is NOT the same company as in 2022.

2022 Apple sells old products repackaged with new case, at ridiculously high prices: if you want an Apple product for $99 (and it already looks like a gift, knowing the company) you buy a HomePod mini with a CPU of a 2019 Apple Watch or maybe an hdmi adapter. Apple for $99 doesn't even sell a Pencil.
