Almost certain to differentiate in 2019 when the Plus gets a triple camera system
I don't doubt it, but I get so frustrated that I need to buy a bigger iPhone to get the best camera. I just don't want that gigantic phone, but I do want the best camera possible.

And I'm sure there are several reasons Apple does this:
1) The newer technology is larger, so takes an extra year to shrink it a bit more before adding to smaller iPhone
2) Apple is Apple
3) Apple wants camera nuts like me to buy the biggest model, which gives them the most money (see 2 above).

The 6.1 is only going to have a 2x2 modem? come on apple. your manufacturing choices baffle me.
$300 less. You're lucky it has a modem at all. But seriously, for $300 less, you expect some things not present that you will get for $300 more.
So the 6.1” is going to have a LOWER resolution than the smaller and older iPhone 8 Plus model?!?
It costs $300 less. You are lucky it has a screen at all.

Kuo expects the new 6.1-inch LCD model to account for 50 to 55 percent and 65 to 70 percent of new iPhone models' total shipments in the second half of 2018 and the first half of 2019, respectively.
Should be “in the first half of 2019 and the second half of 2019, respectively.”

No, the original statement seems correct.

The 6.1" model is slightly delayed. As production increases, it will account for higher shipments.

2H'19 shipments would be filled with 2019 model iPhones.

But really [new iPhone "X Plus"] at that size, is basically an iPad.
Never.
Maybe only from afar superficially due to super-sizing of the new-gen iPhone.

iPhone and iPad mini are completely different beasts -- this due to their differing aspect ratios, where the mini is optimized for page-size, portrait reading.

Compare aspect ratios:
1. iPhone [new-gen] ::= 2.17
2. iPad [mini 4] ::= 1.34

--> 38+% "stretch" of the new-gen iPhone
Thus, supersizing iPhone cannot replace the functionality of the iPad mini for either reading or as travel companion.

Well there are only preorders in 2018. October begins 2019. And Apple’s flagships always sell best in the first two quarters, ASP shows that. Also, what happen to the 2nd half of 2019?

"Production issues" yeah right. Any delay to the 6.1" phone is artificial. A marketing tactic to push those impulsive types who don't want to wait any longer to cough up extra for the others.

The pricing is the best news here if true. As for that 6.1” iPhone resolution; Apple should be ashamed of themselves for having such a crummy resolution compared to today’s phones, many of which offer higher resolutions than that at cheaper price points. The current Plus model has a higher resolution with a 5.5” display and has done for the past 4 years so a lower resolution than that (especially in 2018) on a 6.1” display is just ridiculously greedy and will look so crummy in comparison. No wonder the prices are going to be so low, then again they will just be around the same prices as the current iPhones so why is Apple cheaping out there? I hate that they do that now, they either cheap out on the display or something else just for more profit.

Apple sells 15-20 million units of iPhone per month. It would be crazy to intentionally delay any iPhone launch.

iPhone X will only receive 10 months of sales due to the late launch last year. Do you really think Apple wouldn't want to sell another 10 million units?

So the iPhone X and X Plus will have identical cameras? That seems surprising?

The only differentiators are resolution and battery?
I really hope the Plus model gets more features, including the camera, rather than just being a real Plus model with no extra benefit.

It’s Apple, they can get away with 30-100% higher price than the competition for pretty much every product.

The 6.1" iPhone is $699.

You're comparing it to the Plus, which is a $799 iPhone.

Apple will never be an Android device with Android specs.

Still wouldn’t make sense, there’s no 1/2 year left for 2018, and then there would still be three calendar quarters for 2019.

And why any Apple analyst would ignore Apple’s fiscal years is beyond me.

There's more than one quarter between now and 2019. There are 108 days between September 14 and December 31. Most analysts simplify that to 2H'18.

Kuo is talking about shipments, which affects component suppliers. Not all component suppliers use Apple fiscal years. It makes sense to use calendar years.

I really miss when Apple sold just one phone in different colors. No one had to deal with so many gimped features; definitely a case of Apple greed here.

I can almost understand more storage and a slightly better camera for the $$$ model, but such a glaring gap in screen resolution, the modem and battery size between the 6.1 and the OLED models is just :rolleyes:.

All I want is updated internals, more RAM and a better screen on the existing SE - same size. I do not want a large iPhone again, nor most the bells and whistles that come with the X phone since I do not use them.

Off course, this is only your opinion, not Apple as iPad mini is left un-updated. You are entitled for your opinion though. But current size iPhone is indeed an iPad “mini” with the same iOS and vast majority setting without calling capability you can say whatever you want to deny this fact

I want Apple Pencil support for my iPhone, not because I am going to actively be using it w/ my iPhone, but because sometimes I’m using my iPad w/ the Apple Pencil, and I go to use my iPhone with it for a quick second, and then remember I can’t do that.

In that case then I’d much rather they price it the same as the current iPhone 8 Plus. I don’t want a cheap a$$ display, would much rather pay 100 extra for a higher resolution. That is going to look so bad on a 6.1” display for today’s standards.

And never be an Android device with Android specs? There’s Android phones with better specs and higher res displays that are cheaper. That’s my point. It’s inexcusable to me.

Well Kuo is talking about iPhone shipments, not about suppliers. So FY would make more sense.

If he’s saying the iPhone X models won’t be selling very well beginning in January, Apple’s ASP is going to be significantly worse than this year.
