Has nothing to do with greed

You know how many parts which would be needed to supply both models? A lot.

Good luck finding any smart phone camera with periscope lens on a phone as small as 6.1
It's all about trickling features to maximize profit. And Apple is not new at this.
As for parts, Apple purchased parts in advance. Apple would've had deals and contracts with parts manufacturers for 2023 iPhones by now as they would already have projections how many iPhone 15 they want to make. This is why Tim Cook is paid the big bucks. Apple's greed = record breaking revenues = happy shareholders.

So Kuo says that periscope is iPhone 15 Pro Max only & Gurman says iPhone 15 Pro models will be the same tech 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Are they both trying to always cover both bases, just to see what sticks???
Not aware gurman has mentioned much about periscope lens.

jeff po has also said likely one phone would get periscope lens for 15 pro max.

There is only so much you can order and with supply it’s not that simple at all. It’s easy for android companies who only have a small amount to source. Being able to source 100 million parts to support both phones is not easy or realistic.

apple likely has to find a way to fit it for a smaller model which I imagine is why its another year later for the regular pro.

Looking ahead, Kuo also believes both iPhone 16 Pro models in 2024 will use the same or similar periscope lens as the one used in the iPhone 15 Pro Max, with Apple continuing its trend of setting apart standard and Pro models by reserving certain higher-end hardware features for the latter.
So the Pro really isn't a Pro, it's just a higher end iPhone. The iPhone Pro Max is the real Pro? 🤦‍♂️ Setting apart the 'higher end' from a 'higher end'. 💁‍♂️

I got an s22 Ultra this year. My first real big phone (previous biggest was s10). I then picked up an iphone 12 mini for work. I now no longer use the s22 ultra. The 12 mini is just so much better for me, I prefer small/light phones cause I exercise a lot. It's also just better in the house walking around with it - I find I don't bother with wanting/needing a smart watch anymore.

I just wish the smaller phones got the better cameras. The only reason I went for the s22 ultra was the cameras - they are great. But it's a real effort to take it out. I was out for a late night walk last night and saw a a beautiful fox playing on the street - whipped out the iphone 12 mini, but the lack of zoom lens sucks. A 10x zoom on my s22 ultra would have been great! But the ultra wouldn't have even fit into my shorts pocket.

Why? Just wait for the 16 Pro and it probably will have it. Trickling tech is not new. Just don't be FOMO. Wait a year for the tech to trickle down.

Remember that sensor shift IS that only the 12 Pro Max had? Now even the regular iPhone 13 has it.
Somehow I doubt it. Previously even the Base iPhone would get the latest A series chip but this time only the Pro models are getting it. The Pro Max has always had the best camera. On the iPad side of things, Apple is only supporting Stage Manager on M1 chip to segregate the iPad lineup even further.

With the smartphone market maturing, Apple is likely going to gate their lineup by locking certain features to the top model.

Samsung is much better in this regard. Almost all features are identical between S22 S22 Plus and S22 Ultra apart from the SPen and battery.

Or Apple can use their size, money, and clout to get more parts more than other companies. Oh wait, they already do!

I swear there’s always a defense force for their Daddy Apple. They aren’t your friend dude.

Has nothing to do with that, money can only get you so far. The fact is apple have only just got this supplier signed up to supply these parts. This isn’t something that has been worked on for years here. It takes time to be able to not only get the parts and the company they are using may not be able to produce a high enough volume.

apple also needs to find a way to find more space on a small device. No amount of money can fix the law of physics.

but hey keep thinking you know all about how the supply chain works…

So if you have a 12 Max, you can safely skip the 14 because it won't have cool features like periscope lens?

in a later iPhone the laws of physics have magically changed.
Technology improves by year, there was a time not long a go when having such cameras that smartphones do now would have sounded crazy. Yes, Apple has been doing this since forever, bringing a new feature on a high end phone and then passing to the cheaper one and frankly can't see anything wrong with that (Yes, I know. People love nothing more than to complain and moan) I personally wouldn't pay a penny more to get the periscope camera, probably not many people would, I buy the Pro Max mostly for the larger display. Next year I could easily buy cheaper Max if there is going to be one.

Great, if I am most likely going to have to pay 1,499 EUR for a new iPhone Pro Max, I will rather wait another year to make it worthwhile upgrading from a 12 PM. I guess this could be nice for concerts?
Better photography tools are always welcome but if there’s one thing annoying at concerts these days it’s thousands of people constantly filming throughout the concert experience, rubbing their brightly lit screens through the field of view of others who are there to enjoy the performance.

At the moment the cost of the periscope lens is too much for it to be included on the standard iPhone 15. If Apple were able to even secure enough parts they would have to significantly increase the price of the iPhone 15. Apple will wait until they can get the cost down before bringing to to non pro phones.

It’s not that difficult to understand really. If you can find me a smart phone with a periscope lens which is not over 6.5 inch feel free to post it. There’s a reason why it’s not on the market and it’s to do with space and cost. Apple has to find a way to find room on such a small display never mind the fact having enough parts to supply maybe 100 million units for both displays. The camera on the 14 pro will also look weird as there’s only so much space in there.

Even the 15 Pro won’t get it. But you can probably guess that the 16 Pro will. Just like sensor shift that was only available for the 12 Pro Max.

I personally don’t think the non Pro phones will get any, unless Apple was planning to replace the whole camera system with just one periscope system.

Just like with their other product lines, “Pro” is nothing but a marketing term for slightly better specs and doesn’t necessarily mean the absolute best specs at any given time.

Way to go Apple...
First moving the users from the regular model to the Pro, now even from the Pro to the Pro Max.
I'd be pretty disappointed if this turned out to be true; not really for the price, but rather because I think the pro mac is too big and impractical to use.

Excuse me, MR; why are you not using as a picture your best work to date?

Really? Look how long it took for wireless changing!
I've owned two phones with wireless charging: a Nexus 6 and my current Galaxy S20 Ultra, along with two Galaxy watches, and yeah... wireless charging is awfully nice to have. It's nice also to cut down on mate/de-mate cycles on your poor data port.

What I really hope Apple fixes this year is the “oil painting” photo processing of the 13 Pro.

My brother who is not a tech person or a photographer, made a comment about a photo our parents were in, and said this:

“almost looks like you are photoshopped, the photo is so good”

I’m not sure Apple is going for comments like that when they boast about their camera quality.
