So the Pro really isn't a Pro, it's just a higher end iPhone. The iPhone Pro Max is the real Pro? 🤦‍♂️ Setting apart the 'higher end' from a 'higher end'. 💁‍♂️
I think it's obvious that the "Pro" is just marketing.
Apple's M2 13" Macbook Pro 256GB base model is slower than a cheaper M1 Macbook Air in multitasking tests. That should tell you something what the current Apple's priorities are.

It’s not that difficult to understand really. If you can find me a smart phone with a periscope lens which is not over 6.5 inch feel free to post it. There’s a reason why it’s not on the market and it’s to do with space and cost. Apple has to find a way to find room on such a small display never mind the fact having enough parts to supply maybe 100 million units for both displays. The camera on the 14 pro will also look weird as there’s only so much space in there.

It's not that difficult to understand really. You're just pulling this out of your ass. Absence of evidence does not mean evidence of absence.

Yeah, that's right! Blame Apple for the laws of physics, which limit the amount of space the regular Pro can have, thus not being able to fit a periscope system.
Not sure this is true given sizes of phones that have periscopes from competitors.

Interest in periscope, yes. Interest in only one, giant form factor choice, no. Hope I’m still alive and employed when it comes out and nothing crazy happens at Apple or with the world at large before then 😂. The one upgrade I’ve really been waiting for with travel photos in mind, but I’ll probably break my 12 before then anyhow…

Rather weak comeback by somebody who is still unable to provide any evidence of any other device which has been able to fit in a periscope lens in such a small body. Not only do you not understand this nor do you understand how hard it is to supply huge amount of parts in one year for two models. If Apple was all about greed and want people to pay for the bigger model they wouldn’t have made the camera specs the same as the pro max last year or this year which they could have easily done to get more money out of people.

If Apple wanted to they could eliminate the regular pro and just have regular 6.1 and 6.7 and have a 6.7 pro max model to gain more money

At the moment the cost of the periscope lens is too much for it to be included on the standard iPhone 15. If Apple were able to even secure enough parts they would have to significantly increase the price of the iPhone 15. Apple will wait until they can get the cost down before bringing to to non pro phones.
And yet the Samsung Galaxy S22 has it.

It's just a phone. How small can your hands possibly be for an iPhone in the Max size to be too big to handle?
feeling lazy to answer but i think u can imagine that holding the phone one handed which is required in many situations ,may not be practical if you have small nay normal hands .even more so given square edges bad prehension nature

I heard all the recent cameras can get buggered by vibrations. Anyone know if periscope lenses are just as likely to get buggered? I'm still on a 6S, but upgrade is due in the next year (or maybe stretch a year-and-a-half), so I'm wondering if I'm gonna need stupid shock-mounts on my MTB and gravel bike to keep using my phone as a cycling computer.

Err you won’t find any smart phone with a periscope lens that isn’t a large device
You are right. I was wrong looked it up and it appears to be the case. I don’t know enough about the technology to know if that is other companies trickling down the technology or if it’s a real limitation of the periscope.

Well Apple aren’t Samsung. By the time the Periscope lens comes to the iPhone it will have been on 4 generations of Samsung phones and Huawei had it a year before Samsung.
Exactly. Samsung also had the hole punch design before Apple and now Apple are adopting it in iPhone 14. The S22 Ultra I have makes my 11 Pro Max design look ancient. Just look at the minimalistic bezels.

The only reason to buy Apple's phones is probably longetivity and battery life. They are very afraid to experiment unlike Android OEMs.

Also in my opinion Samsung does not cripple the S22 to make the S22 Ultra look good. They serve distinct use cases. Apple purposely cripples the base model to uspell their flagship phone. Now they plan to use their older SOCs on the base model to segment the lineup even more. It's nothing to do with costs as some posters here are alluding to otherwise we should see similar compromises between s22 and s22 ultra.

Why only a meager 3x improvement over the 13PM? 6x optical zoom? What's even the point of having a periscope lens if the returns are that piddly??

Especially when other phones the same size already have 100x optical?? Apple will be entering the field ridics late, and with poorer spec. 🙄

In literally zero way is this innovative.

I am wondering if there is 48MP wide lens on iPhone 14 pro,

will this give a similar quality for 10x zoom photos compared with that using periscope lens,

just like what Google Pixel 6 pro is achieving through its digital super-resolution zoom capacity?

That’s false, other companies do not have 100x optical. They have 100x digital. Big difference.

6x would make a massive difference from 3x. The most people tend to use is 5x to 20x. Anything past 30x soon becomes more of a gimmick.

Don’t expect any improvements for telephoto this year.

You need a periscope lens to achieve those levels of zoom
