Don’t expect any improvements for telephoto this year.

You need a periscope lens to achieve those levels of zoom

But Google Pixel 6 pro only has 4x telephoto lens, but its 10x zoom photos are much better than that by 13 pro…I wonder it also depends on the sensor, algorithm…

I am not expecting 10x zoom photos by iPhone 14 pro will catch up the quality of S22 ultra…

Even the 15 pro max may have a 5x-6x periscope lens only, not 10x…

Pixel 6 pro 4x zoom is periscope lens. Google software is magic but it’s very good up to 20x partly due to software but has the periscope lens

I wonder if a 4x zoom lens, even if it is periscope, will make a lot of difference…

I hope a super res zoom on iPhone will be a good substitute of periscope zoom…

So really, there still is only one iPhone model, ala the Jobs era. They just found some numbers-kid to figure out how to make it seem like the price for the phone isn't as high as it really is. Because if you release gimped versions of the same phone, the perception is that the real model is a luxury item--when it's really the standard phone, and all the rest below it are simply PR decoys distractions.

So...they say up to 6x zoom. But remember that's likely not from the standard camera length - that'll be from the ultra-wide-angle. So it'll be underwhelming anyway - wait a few more years and they might finally come up with something that is 28-280mm equivalent or better.

Nah it would be like everybody else judges it like it should be. How apple view it now it already has 5x which is obviously false.

Wether this is true or not, I’m still upgrading my 12 Pro Max to the 14 Pro Max and if the 15 Pro Max is a compelling upgrade for me, I’ll break my 2 year upgrade cycle and upgrade to the 15 Pro Max.

That’s false, other companies do not have 100x optical. They have 100x digital. Big difference.

6x would make a massive difference from 3x. The most people tend to use is 5x to 20x. Anything past 30x soon becomes more of a gimmick.
6x would be a start but I would prefer 10x.

I guess Pro will once again lose the point of the name. Having differences between the Pro models other than size is so annoying. I want the camera, I don't want a spare 6.7 inch brick in my pocket. Or whatever that giant size is.

Lol you're right, my bad. I mis-read.

10x was what was cited in the article. Which is still more than the 6x of 15PM. 10x is more of a decent difference from 6x than 6x is from 3x. So, they're still not reaching parity with other players in the market.

I agree 10x would be better but currently only Samsung are offering 10x for most part. Huawai used to when they were a player but most now use 4x to 5x

I would happily settle for 5x-6x given where we have been out in recent years with only 2x to 3x

Then just wait for iPhone 16 Pro. Apple has been doing this since the 6s
6s Plus had OIS, regular 6s didn't. Then the iPhone 7 got OIS.
The 12 Pro Max had sensor shift IS, the 12 Pro didn't. 13 Pro got it.

It's a very typical trickling of tech. It's easy to overcome. Just don't feel FOMO, and wait next year to enjoy the tech at the regular Pro model.
Bummed it won't be in the smaller Pro body, but waiting an extra year (or two?) will at least let them work out any first iteration kinks.

Exactly. Samsung also had the hole punch design before Apple and now Apple are adopting it in iPhone 14. The S22 Ultra I have makes my 11 Pro Max design look ancient. Just look at the minimalistic bezels.

The only reason to buy Apple's phones is probably longetivity and battery life. They are very afraid to experiment unlike Android OEMs.

Also in my opinion Samsung does not cripple the S22 to make the S22 Ultra look good. They serve distinct use cases. Apple purposely cripples the base model to uspell their flagship phone. Now they plan to use their older SOCs on the base model to segment the lineup even more. It's nothing to do with costs as some posters here are alluding to otherwise we should see similar compromises between s22 and s22 ultra.
I couldn't have said it better myself, especially your last paragraph.

So, the notch will be gone, periscope camera with actual zoom capability, and USB-C on top of all of it? I can't believe it has taken them this long to add these three things that multiple manufacturers have had for YEARS.

Apple has finally produced a phone that I'd strongly consider making my daily driver and not just my free work phone. Make. It. Happen.

Could be worse - there could be 3000 versions of it, like there are for the Galaxy range.
Since when is choice is a bad thing?

Usual greedy apple. Still not buying a huge phone, I already have a tablet I don’t want to have to use a crane to answer phone calls.
i am also frustrated by having to pick between small phone and a great camera, please apple give us a 14Pro Mini I'm fine with paying for it
