Hey Juli,

Any mention in Kuo's update about whether Apple will pass along their reduced DRAM & NAND costs to consumers ?

As many already know, DRAM & NAND (manufacturing) costs are both down 50% compared to last Summer.

I consider reverse charge a big fat gimmick.

How/when (% of your usage) will you benefit from that? It would be so odd that it saves me from a ______ situation
When I’m working out I could put my AirPods case is by my phone. With bilateral charging I could just set the case on the phone to charge up while wearing them. The little bit of charging wouldn’t effect my phone battery much, but be enough to keep my AirPods case charges up all the time.

I think it's time to make the iPhone modular. I know it will never, ever happen, but to me it would solve the dilemma (if you want to call it that) of users not wanting to upgrade because they feel satisfied overall with their current phones.

It would be great if you wanted the new A whatever chip but didn't want to splurge on a completely new iPhone. Or you wanted whatever new co-processor Apple is coming out with, just pop out the old co-processor module and slap in the new one.

Better yet, take the user out of the equation and if you want said upgrades, you'll simply take your current iPhone into the Apple store and they'll do it for you using some sort of proprietary process. There would be a yearly set fee to get the whole package, or you could pay an al-la-carte fee and pick and choose which upgrades you want. Even the screen could be swapable.

I know the current yearly iPhone upgrade program makes this somewhat moot, so I'll just drop this crazy idea right now.

AAPL buying opportunity.

And that's what people should do; don't buy these warmed over upgrades; put $1000 into the stock; by this time next year you'll have a nice profit. While the iPhones are getting boring, Apple services are doing fine and will keep Wall Street happy.
People who did it last year ddid not get any profits. AAPL is not what it used to be.

It's hilarious to watch the amount of people who jump on anything that Ming says, and take it as more than speculation and then think the sky is falling because something may or may not be.

That is because the rumour sites say “reputable source Ming Chi Kuo” because of his knowledge in the production chain. So, yeah, you tend to give it more value. From now on everything I read will be lies until Apple releases something and that’s it. I’m not believing this idiot again.

I still think bilateral is coming. How accurate is this person? I mean they moved the logo to.coincide with the placement.

Ming Kuo? He’s the most accurate analyst in the world, so if that tells you anything. Has he been wrong before? Yes. But he has far more accuracy with Apple over any other analyst ever.

What was he wrong on last year? We heard so much about bilateral. Since all the main competitors have it.

Well, it sounds like I will be one of the few buying a 2019 iPhone....only because I'm still using an iPhone 6s and it's barely functioning, so I have no choice but to get a new phone this year. Maybe I will look into an XR to hold me over to 2020.

If this is true, I'll be curious to see what Apple announces to entice people to upgrade from the current XS line.. For me, it would have been something as simple as moving from the Lightning port to USB-C, since it is currently a huge hassle when I take my 2019 IPad Pro with me and have to have to different chargers, cables, etc.
That's why I went with a Nomad universal cable. One solid cable to do micro USB, lightning and USB C. Works great.

We've come a LONG way in a very short time! I think people forgot that just 12 years ago, the iPhone was first introduced and set a whole new bar for mobile technology.

Two-way charging doesn't seem to be a very efficient use of a mobile's battery. I remain skeptical of that feature, and I agree that Apple should lean towards the conservative with that feature, rather than shipping it "just because" the competition, namely Samsung, offers it.
I agree with this. I've personally (yeah, just my experience) never needed additional charge to my AirPods or Apple Watch on the go where I couldn't or didn't have the ability to do it from a charger. Sounds like a great 'nice to have' feature but don't see myself using it. Again, just my opinion.

Rumor or not I am becoming disappointed with Apple. The features they used to announce used to be revolutionary.

I for one had high hopes they would retire lightning for USB-C and they would include bilateral charging. These days, if you want innovation you look to android devices.

But they do have snazzy credit card (insert eye-roll)

They should go USB 4 at this point.

Last year was already a small upgrade, but Apple will do something even smaller this year. Will stick with my iPhone XS and it will be the first time not switching to the latest model. Recycling the same design for three years, could you be any lazier.

Have you looked at the 2010 Mac Mini and compared it to the latest Mini?

XR will be the smart buy, seeing how it will get a price cut

I am sort of expecting Apple to blow our minds with something entirely unexpected, because Jesus, it simply cannot be that this is the best they can do in a year.

Yeah, agreed. And in truth the stuff they are bringing out tomorrow will likely have been 'in the pipeline' for multiple years, so each year they really should be bringing out stuff to knock our collective socks off. I am still rooting for Apple to bring out a truly revolutionary, paradigm bending product like the iPhone or (arguably) the iPad and do it with no leaks or hints whatsoever.

They need to go back to a tick tock release cycle.

If there’s no Mac or bi lateral wireless charging, then yikes.. this is the phone that apple is being forced to make because the investors told them too

Snooze fest incoming... whose ready for another 50 minute demo on virtual legos

Right! So, for this “By Innovation Only” event, we’re getting:

-an iPhone XS with another camera tacked on to the back and a faster processor
-new Apple Watch colors
-Tile but 2x as expensive and worse compatibility

Sorry but no matter how you put it this is not innovation.

I am sort of expecting Apple to blow our minds with something entirely unexpected, because Jesus, it simply cannot be that this is the best they can do in a year.

Stop, your ruining the hype! ;)

“May” not feature bilateral wireless charging?

Kuo, buddy, the slide deck is done. The initial promos have been filmed and edited. Federighi’s hair is at stage-3 critical mass.

It’s a little late for “may” anything rumors.

I can’t wait until this design’s 3 years is over. Not only is it the most expensive Apple phone ever but also the ugliest (notch) and undesirable (Face ID). My 6s will do just fine. I guess Apple doesn’t want my money.

Coming from a three year old SE, I’m probably going to upgrade to whatever replaces the XS Max. I’m on my second battery and it’s almost dead at the end of the day from just listening to music. I had a 6 Plus before the SE and I miss having the big screen. 5G is not important to me right now and neither is having USB-C (I have a ton of lightning cables). Any camera will be a welcome upgrade over the SE’s and I’d love a phone that’s waterproof. This update might be boring and lackluster to a lot of people but it’s one I’m looking forward to.
