I don't think this year's iPhone release will be a failure. They are still going to sell gobs and gobs of new iPhones and make billions of dollars. I would say, however that I think the majority of those calling this new iPhone generation a failure are meaning it in the sense that there will be no new features to make a person's heart skip a beat and have them run to the nearest Apple store with the credit card already in hand and say "Apple, take mah monies, right meow!".

I can see though from your perspective of having an iPhone 7 currently, that the new features would be innovative and exciting. I have an XS Max and I don't think think there will be any features compelling enough to prompt me to upgrade, unless Apple managed to hide something from us that will be completely game changing.

one thing for me that may be minor to most is that the pro is rumored to have improved haptics, which is actually one of my favorite things about the 7 versus its predecessors. The camera stuff is ok but i think it’ll the culmination of “small” stuff like haptics which i will appreciate the most upgrading from my 7

Hope my 7 plus can squeeze out another year or two. Hopefully they can reduce/remove the notch come 2021. I’m assuming the 2020 phone will have same body as the”11” that’s about to be announced. Then again they could still alter the notch next year, and sell it as the big “feature”.

so he was wrong this whole time. let’s stop listening to him — it’s not like the removal of backside charging was decided the night before the Apple event.

It was probably decided a few weeks ago.

It takes Kuo and Gurman to confirm with a few sources. Apple probably tries to phish out leakers with fake news.

That is because the rumour sites say “reputable source Ming Chi Kuo” because of his knowledge in the production chain. So, yeah, you tend to give it more value. From now on everything I read will be lies until Apple releases something and that’s it. I’m not believing this idiot again.
Rumour mills basically work this way.

"I’m an analyst: Apple will release a gold-making attachment on the new iPhone. One week later: Apple might not release the gold-making attachment because the gold yields were too low. Now if Apple releases it, I’m right. If Apple does not release it, I’m right. Rinse, repeat."

Some info on new iPhones with prices and release dates. Seems to be truly called ‘iPhone 11’...

Bummer about the 7+. I'm nursing mine 1 more year. Living with the Assistive Touch software home button for a year would be tough.
After upgrading from iOS 10 to iOS 12 I've notice that my earpiece stopped working and is very soft. Idk if it's a hardware or software problem.

Based on rumors, this is a camera upgrade and a new chipset. If you’re upgrading from an X, XR, XS, XS max, I would like to know why. Easiest skip year of all time. Do not succumb to the hype. DO NOT.

That slide claims AirPower's launch date is "TBD."

Debunked.

Huawei and Samsung already offer reverse wireless charging. Mate 20 Pro came out a year ago.

Where's Apple's 50x camera zoom? ToF sensor? In-display fingerprint? These are all current technologies available today on the above mentioned brands.

“By Innovation Only” my @ss.
The forehead slaps heard ‘round the world.

I feel that users are going to slow down on upgrading regardless of how good the iPhone is at any rate. As such, I understand why Apple is moving from selling iPhones to selling to people with iPhones.

In this regard, I find that Apple’s current strategy of charging higher prices, and offering more accessories and services makes absolute sense, even if the critics here may not accept or like it.

The current pace of iPhone development seems in line with fostering a 3-4 year upgrade cycle. Maybe that makes it a self-fulfilling prophecy in a sense, but it is what it is.
Yup. It’s the nature of things, and Apple better do a shift in their strategy.
The upgrade slowdowns are also affecting everyone, including Android manufacturers. And they are in worse shape, with razor thin margin and no software skills. Even Samsung is feeling it.

Imo it’s just too bad that Apple is shifting to contents, chasing Netflix, instead of buffing up iCloud and iWorks to make them a true Office365 killer for mere mortals.

I can’t wait until this design’s 3 years is over. Not only is it the most expensive Apple phone ever but also the ugliest (notch) and undesirable (Face ID). My 6s will do just fine. I guess Apple doesn’t want my money.

Me, as well. I often wonder whether a flagship iPhone will ever drop below 1 large again? I think a flagship in the 750 range would be an attractive price point.

I don't think Apple is interested in making iWork's a "true office killer". The reality is that the majority of people are still going to use office anyways, because that's what everyone else uses. I do use iworks on my iPad from time to time (mostly keynote and pages), but that's for content I don't need to export or share with anyone else.

The purpose of iworks all along was probably to serve as a hedge back when the microsoft / Apple rivalry was very real and there are a genuine threat of Microsoft withholding their software from the Mac platform. Today, Microsoft is more focused on properly supporting as many platforms as possible, and in comparison, there is less incentive to keep improving a software suite which fewer people use. Which is a shame, because I still love iworks for its simplicity and native iCloud integration, and that it continues to work better on iPad compared to the iOS versions of office.

iworks is also not generating Apple any revenue, and I don't know how many people buy new apple products (or stick with their existing apple products) due to said software. It will likely still be updated from time to time just to remind Microsoft that it still exists and not to get too complacent.

In contrast, content is another form of revenue, and will likely help add more value to the apple ecosystem compared to iworks, considering how so many more people own iPhones than Macs. It's all about priorities these days.

It's sad tbh that only improvement will be camera. The rumors were larger battery for bilateral wireless.
