You know, I really would like for you to stop referring to ears in which AirPods don't fit nicely as "abnormal ears". I suspect a sizeable minority of users don't have a super snug fit from these and their ears are perfectly normal. Last I checked, people come in all shapes and sizes and are "normal". The AirPods optimally fit in a certain size ear canal and for everyone else, they're a little off. For some they fall out, for others it just hurts to have them in for any extended period.

Exactly majority of ears they work perfect and the ministry group of people with abnormal ears they do not. No need to be offended by the word “abnormal” just because we all get offended by anything these days...smh. Lots of people have abnormal eyes and therefore wear glasses and you don’t seem them whining.

I love when people completely make up statistics like this.
Yeah it’s probably closer to 90%.

So I get your frustration.

Several things, it’s basically going to take the current 2D assembly and turn it into a more dense, 3D structure that will bring all the components into one package. It’s not fabricated as a semiconductor wafer like a system on a chip; there are still discrete parts but they’ll be connected by fine wires instead of the traces of a printed circuit board.

They’ll be able to pack more components into a customized shape. Functionality wise it’ll have whatever Apple decides to add but they’ll be able to design more-complex circuits and still fit it in the same physical space. Apparently there’s a manufacturing yield problem which has constrained supply, and this is their solution, integrating all the components that used to be on a small, many-layered printed circuit board in a two-dimension layout into a single, denser, module. Parts all mounted on the same substrate, connected by fine, bonded wires.
Appreciate that detailed description.

So they may alter the design significantly eh. Very interesting.

If they don’t fit your abnormal ears you can’t really judge the sound quality now can you since they don’t fit lol. And again best sounding wireless ear buds for runners....learn to read full sentences it will help you in the long run

Oh man, where to start.....A. I can use earpods when I am sitting down. B. They are the same components as the wired pods (minus wire) C. I have never read a review in which these were the best wireless earbuds (runner or not) D. I didn't know your word was canon.

"Let's talk about audio quality: since Apple says the AirPods have nearly the same components as EarPods do, they should sound similar. They do. The biggest difference is that AirPods produce stronger bass than their wired counterparts, which is likely due to the larger opening on their backs."

You know I’m about the least politically correct person around but you are simply being rude. I can’t wear size 8 shoes but that doesn’t make my feet abnormal.

Thanks, awesome intel!

According to Kuo there are two new models, one at the same price and one more expensive, both of which will use SiP components. The same price model may be nothing more than the 2019 model with the new SiP. Or they may add some other (probably minor) features or add colors, it’s hard to say.

The more expensive model is rumored to add health-related features based on new sensors, not sure what that would be besides body temperature or maybe heart rate. Another feature that’s been mentioned is noise cancelling which many have been asking for and/or a sealed design for better noise isolation. Maybe better sound. Supposedly it’s a new physical design as well so maybe those who have a problem with the current look will be happier with the new one... maybe not.

Just looking through this thread and there are a solid number of posters who are complaining about these falling out. That's why I don't understand all the idiotic "you have abnormal ears" and "these fit everyone else besides you" crap. You can even find plenty of professional reviewers who gripe about this. No we are most likely NOT the majority, I get that, but I'm sure it's still a significant number. At the end of the day I just purchased another brand which fits me just fine, with the added advantage of having a nice seal, especially after I add some Comply foam tips to them.

Well I suppose it’s possible you just don’t understand the meaning of the word the way your using it.

Abnormal behavior: not good
Abnormal result of a cancer screening: not good
Abnormal personality: not good
Abnormal heart rhythm: not good

You might see a pattern there: the word “abnormal” has a negative connotation, whether you meant it that way or not. But I suspect you’re rather aware of that fact, since I detect quite the smart-ass attitude in your post. Hopefully that’s just a phase you’re going through and you'll soon grow out of it, because it won’t serve you well as an adult.

On the off chance you don’t understand the meaning of the word and therefore why your using it as you did is offensive (which I doubt):

Abnormal:
  • deviating from what is normal or usual, typically in a way that is undesirable or worrying.
  • unusual in an unwelcome or problematic way
  • different from what is usual or average, especially in a way that is bad
So please dispense with the “how could you possibly be offended by my innocuous post which is merely descriptive and not at all meant to be insulting :/ smh” BS passive-aggressive tone you’re laying down.

btw, it’s possible I’ve misjudged you; if so, it will be apparent based on the sincerity you display in your apology for your offensive posts. In that case, I’ll be quick to apologize for a harsh and inaccurate opinion.

I hope one will have noise isolation or cancelling. It's always amazed me that apple ignores this deal-breaker aspect of their earphone range. I would have bought a pair by now, but I use them on public transport and noise isolation is actually essential. Without it, they are as much use as the proverbial chocolate teapot.

Hopefully the 'All-New Design' will have some sizing customisation designed into them.
Something that fits in ears, should always have sizing customisation.

Just like your feet, our ears are not symmetrical in shape/size. In my case, the left side falls out more often than the right. Texturizing the surface on the bottom lobe may help. Apple has never been all that mindful of ergonomics. Except for the early Mac computers that incorporated built-in handles, and the Newton PDA rubberized surface; Apple design priority is more about form over function.

Glad I opted NOT to replace my launch pair with AirPods 1.5!

Yeah, the current NEW version is so incremental it isn't worth it for me to upgrade to them. Even though I'll miss the pocket-ability of the Airpods, I'll probably go to the Powerbeats Pro. The more secure fit, better battery life, hardware controls, etc., make them a go in my book.

I may change my mind however, if the case size looks to huge in person.

Thanks, I wasn't aware of that. However, I did ask.

Np, hope they help you out! Sadly I have noticed with Apple over last few years it’s all about who you talk to with customer service!

Yeah, Apple already sent me a bill for 84-bucks! It's just in 'case' that I somehow damaged it and lied about the defect. The darn thing had never been dropped or ever exposed to direct sunlight or water. It's just a latent defect defective in my opinion. My old Gen1 charging case works fine with the Gen2 Airpods, and fully charges both Airpods. Frankly, I was much happier with my Gen1's aside from the internal batteries were fading out.
