We got the monitor last Friday, this is a setup for a friends daughter. Mac Book M4 Air driving this.

Running this on 80GBPS USB-c (TB5 ) no real difference on the picture, tbh.

Not quite drilled down yet, she is using it for her Uni work. Come from a LG4k ultra fine, we did look at the Apple 27 studio, but took punt on this.

I’m actually new here I’ve been stalking Kuycon on every app since I started shopping last year. It was the beginning of the year and forums all over kept planting seeds of doubt about Kuycon and Click Clack being their authorized Seller with their QA issues 100% shot them in the foot for me. I ended up buying the Viewfinity S9 refurbished on Amazon for my Mac m4 instead and regret it whole heartedly (I even got it for $450 they sent me it and it had scratches on the stand of all things. The camera type c dongle was bad and made it blurry they pleaded with me to keep it for $300 off it was crazy and it was in warranty.)

Yet here I am even at the price of a dumpster monitor still trying to get rid of it. The thing is garbage I’ll never buy Samsung again and the only place I can say that is here because I’m trying to resell it 😭. They made it so it’s practically incompatible with a Mac in every way yet Macs are the only computers that honestly even require a customer to look at this high spec of a monitor.

Anyway I love that this forum has continued to have conversations about Kuycon I see. I dodged a bullet because I had a lengthy conversation with Kuycon.us and was about to pull the trigger they have practically all my info smfh.

I will likely be buying one of these very soon but I was wanting to know how to get this forum to show me all post with pics in this thread? I literally only made in account to talk to the Kuy Con Clan (Jk jk I have dark humor I’m black don’t stone me Kuycon Gang tho). I want to see everyone’s set up and see what I can do also I saw someone had a monitor light attached but I also need a webcam for school. I also have HomePods but those have let me down when I had the idea to pair them to my monitor and Mac the other day. Can’t believe $100+ speakers have no useable Bluetooth.

So suffice to say I want to see what the ways people set their desk up with these things.

@shadowofvale welcome! Sorry to hear your experience with the Viewfinity S9. My setup is pretty simple – Kuycon to Mac Studio M4 MAX using an apple Thunderbolt 5 cable. I've recently added the BenQ Screenbar Halo2 which is great. I previously purchased the Alogic Illuminate USB-C Light Bar with 4K Autofocus Webcam. I thought the Alogic would be the ideal solution with the built in webcam but it was terrible. The webam image was poor with no way of making adjustments. The unit itself was made of plastic and didn't look or feel premium. I sent it back. The returns process with Alogic has been the most painful and protracted I've ever experienced. I won't go into detail but it's now been three weeks and I'm still waiting to see the money back in my account. I'm currently using an Obsbot Meet SE webcam and it works well for my needs, but I should mention, when using FaceTime, Apple doesn't allow third party products to access their propriety echo cancellation so I have to use headphones. Zoom and google meet don't have this problem. For speakers, I'll eventually go for some powered desktops (with USB DAC) and avoid bluetooth due to potential audio delay. I've been looking at the Yanko YU2 model but have yet to take the plunge. Happy answer any questions you may have.

How are you liking the Obsbot camera? Good enough for long term use?

Did you consider any 4K cameras?

The Obsbot SE has been good so far but I have fairly basic webcam needs – just a few Teams meetings during the week and FaceTime calls with parents at weekends. I did consider the Obsbot Meet 2 which is 4K but decided to go for the cheaper option. I had also bought and returned the Logitech 4K Pro which had been developed specifically for the XDR display but I couldn't get it to work. No idea why, could have just been a faulty device. It also wouldn't stick magnetically to the top of the Kuycon so kind of pointless.

Speaking of webcams, you're probably familiar with this: you get the impression that some cameras (including the Apple selfie camera) capture your face in such a strange way that you look rather “unflattering.”

But when you look at yourself in the mirror, everything actually looks OK.
This effect probably has something to do with this:

Wide-angle distortion

Many webcams use wide-angle lenses to show more of the room.
→ This slightly distorts faces, especially in the center or at the edges: the nose appears larger and the face appears rounder.
This hardly ever happens with high-quality cameras or smartphones (telephoto lens/portrait mode).

What is your experience with this, and how does it work with the Obsbot camera you mentioned?

Speaking of webcams
The Alogic lightbar/webcam just seemed super close-up, disturbingly so! There was no option to zoom out and the quality was way below 4K. The Obsbot is much better. There's an 'OBSBOT Center' app that lets you adjust a whole host of settings and image parameters, most of which I don't use – see screen shots. There's a bunch of AI stuff if you feel the need to make yourself look more beautiful!

When was the DisplayPort 1.4 bug fixed, and when did the bug come back?
looks like it was fixed in macOS Sonoma 14.1 and came back in macOS Sonoma 14.4.
I'm sure it will have the bug too. Unless Apple puts it in some exceptions list, but I doubt this.
This would also affect M4 MacBook Pros
Yep, but only base M4 MacBook Pro.
possibly the new M5 MacBook Pros coming soon
Personally I hope all (including base) devices on M5 will support TB5/DP2.1 but nobody knows at the moment.
For M4 MacBook Airs and next year's M5 MacBook Airs, would an HDMI 2.1 dongle work?
If it works right now I think it should work in the future as well.

Ah yes, I found the post with the 14.1 fix, but had missed the post about the break in 14.4. Too bad it's not fixed in macOS 26 Tahoe (yet). Mind you, I'd probably use HDMI anyway to free up a Thunderbolt 4 port, and to get native brightness control.*

*If that works, that is. Some people have reported that one advantage of HDMI over Thunderbolt on third party monitors is native brightness control.

As expected, the base M5 MacBook Pros are Thunderbolt 4.

Thus, I assume the base M5 Mac mini and the M5 MacBook Air will also be TB4, but I didn't expect otherwise.

The M5 iPad Pro is TB3.

Today, I connected my iPad Pro 12.9" (6th Gen.) to the Kuycon G32P in HDR. What can I say: awesome picture! It worked without any problems, and I was able to switch back and forth between my PC via HDMI and the iPad Pro via USB-C with ease. It worked great, and the picture from the iPad on the Kuycon looked very, very good!

Do you get 6144x3456 or 6016x3384? If the latter, does it fill the screen (scaled), or are you missing a few pixels on each edge (which would be my preferred option)?

Just noticed that I also get HDR (3840x2160/60Hz via TB5 (scaled, edge-to-edge)) from my M4 iPad Pro.

Strange that my M4 Macbook Air does not reciprocate 🤷‍♂️

Will be interesting to see the output of the DGX Spark (still in the box) and the AMD EPYC 4005 unit...

M4 iPad Pro does not have TB5, and neither does the Kuycon. Typo?

The fact that Kuycon’s G32P firmware has been upgraded to a ‘80Gbps’ mode option would suggest that RealTek has devised some way of getting the benefits of USB4 (V2?)’s Alt-mode DP (2.1?) bandwidth if you use a TB5 cable? 😉

They have done the same thing for their 5K chipset, getting HDMI 2.1 5K/60 performance out of a scaler chip they originally specified as only HDMI 2.0 4K/60.

Maybe using a TB5 cable causes MacOS to behave differently?

@Dark-Signature "But what if the remote control breaks down?"

In the event of that happening, and Kuycon not supplying you with a replacement, then there are replacement remote controls available (for $15) which work with other monitors with RealTek firmware (which the Kuycon 5K/6K monitors use).
Not as good looking, and it would need confirming that they would work (but highly likely?)...

FYI, the remote control doesn't work with the Kuycon.
It's a shame because mine was missing upon delivery, and I can't control the monitor.
If anyone happens to have a Logitech Harmony, could you create a profile?

So, do you mean M4 Macbook Air doesn't show HDR option when connected to the monitor in 4K mode?

I’m not sure I understand. The M4 iPad Pro supports only up to 40 Gbps over USB 4.

I can only assume it does.

Just sharing my experience that my M4 iPP pumps 3840x2160/60Hz/HDR via a TB5 cable to the G32P (while the M4 MBA does not) 🤷‍♂️
