Hope this rumour turns out to be true. The samsung edge phone is seriously flawed, movies do not look good when played on all these distorted screens.

It looks great, but it sucks to use and watch video on.

I have only used briefly few times on the display units. To me it seems fine and some people who had the previous version have it have said they love it. As much as I like the way it looks, it's hard for me to get is as I have always had issues with Galaxy phones, and from my user experience they have been very unreliable.

the late 2017 iPhone will be the 10th iPhone, I'm having high hopes it'll be something very special.
Let' s hope that this years phone will be something special! Don' t care about next year. We need a hit this year!

Well, if Apple will keep going the tick-tock way, this year's iPhone design will be different and next year's will be the same, right ?
So, these changes could only happen in 2016 or 2018.

I always thought the Samsung Edge phones looked cool, but I'm not convinced there's much usefulness for this approach. To me it would seem to make cases less protective and open the door for many touch errors from just holding the phone.

Anyway... it's just a speculative rumor based on old patents we've seen before. No big deal at this point.

you are right.
BTW, do you honestly think someone have an idea about Apple's plans for 2017/2018 as of today, when we don't even know about the iPhone 7 that's going to be launched in a few months ?
All this rumors are totally unconfirmed and most probably inaccurate...

Samsung edge is a gimmick. You can implement side swipes for this on any phone without sacrificing display width. Edge looks narrow and tall - ridiculous.

Why not start off with the ipod see how that works instead of ruining the iPhone?

You know what God says about that?

DON'T!

Samsung already has the Egde, so Apple's thinking people would like this on Apple devices just because their Apple users... ? ok,, whatever floats a boat Tim. I don't see how Apple can possibly make this any better. Quick access to menus with a flick of finger......... *yawn* it would be like 3D Touch. That is good feature as well, but noting to actually sneeze about.... What's great to some, is dull to others.

All i'm interested in is OLED..

The wrap around display would like look kinda stupid... just having a convenience of not taking 1 second to flick your phone up, it will always be facing you whichever way you put it down... That would lead to more bumps, nicks, dents, and god knows what else...

I do not like Samsungs curved display.... Hopefully Apple has some different idea of ther own
Most of my Samsung friends (of which I have relatively few that haven't switched) claim Samsung innovates. Personally I say they rush ideas to market before they are ready. I appreciate the extra time Apple puts into development to ensure their products are well thought out and a marriage between the idea and relative technical maturity.

Of course there have been notable missteps (MobileMe anyone) and times they have had their hand forced (Apple Maps), but for the most part I feel they've learned from their mistakes and make superior products because of it. It's almost as if Samsung actively scans Apple's patent applications, and then rushes to market to give the naïve consumer the impression they are the innovator, when instead they are providing the disservice of a second rate user experience through the bad implementation of someone else's idea.

Have to admit, I'd actually not like the volume buttons to be soft buttons... I like being able to adjust volume unsighted. We'd at least need some kind of ridges at the edge of the screen to discern the position, in which case, why not make these buttons. And is their really sufficient real estate to label these buttons (certainly not with Samsung's implementation)

So 7 plus with a 5.5", and 7s plus with a 5.8"? Would be first time that Apple would make such a big back to back revision of their device. Don't think we'll be seeing a in-between version of the phone get such a major revision.

the difference is in the way Apple usually implement it.
So yes, it became a feature because it became really usable.
Agreed - a great example is the mechanism for the finger print scanner on iPhone vs Samsung. Whilst imperfect in terms of reader reliability, the iPhone scanner implementation is practically transparent in use, improved from acceptable to good, and continues to do so with each iteration; it adds enormous utility without making one change the way they use the home button - a perfect implementation of technology. The Samsung implementation is just inelegant and ghastly.
