With the iPhone 15 rumored to have the smallest bezels ever on a smartphone, I don't think there is much room left to squeeze a larger screen on a similar sized device.
I guess it is going to be a weight update for the phones next year. lol.

Highly unlikely, as SE has always reused the previous designs and we never had a 5.7” iPhone before.
Didn't someone say there might be one? I think it was Ross Young. He is super accurate, but it does sound weird. Didn't Jon Prosser say it would have a 6.1" display?

Apple plans to introduce larger 6.3 and 6.9-inch display sizes for the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max in 2024, but the change in screen size will be limited to the Pro models. The standard iPhone 16 models are expected to feature the same 6.1 and 6.7-inch display sizes that Apple has used for the last several years.

The information comes from display analyst Ross Young, who often shares accurate insights into Apple's plans. Young earlier this week said that the Pro models will have larger display sizes, and he confirmed to MacRumors that these larger screens will be Pro exclusive and will not be coming to the more affordable iPhone 16 and 16 Plus.

According to Young, the 6.3 and 6.9-inch display sizes are rounded up, with additional information on the specific measurements set to come at the Display Week conference in Los Angeles on May 23.

At approximately 6.3 and 6.9 inches, the planned larger display sizes for the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max will be the biggest screens that Apple has introduced to date. The iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max feature 6.1 and 6.7-inch display sizes, which are also the sizes expected for this year's iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

A tweak to the display size suggests that the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max could potentially see a design revision, a decrease in bezels, or both.

I’m still on an 11 Pro. Main thing that’s kept me from upgrading (besides not having a real need for the extra performance) is that the newer phones are so much bigger and bulkier. The 11 Pro has buttery-smooth curved edges and a 5.85” screen. It’s very noticeably thinner and lighter. All the newer models seem like a physical downgrade to me. Seems like this will be another phone, like the iPhone 5S was years ago, that people are going to have to give up design and portability for in order to keep up with current models.

The existing 5.4” mini is as Pro as you can push it technically, as there simply is not enough physical space for anything else, so definitely no 3rd camera in this body. However, Apple could revive iPhone 11 Pro chassis (5.8”), then everything becomes possible.
Remember when Apple used to solve these problems instead of just doing the same thing as everyone else?

Remember the leaks about the iPhone 15s having a design similar to the MacBook Pros? Maybe that will be for the next design. I liked the flat screen and curved back.

We're talking a display with essentially no bezels. That's going to be expensive to produce, so it's best to spread the cost over the iPhone 16/16 Pro models only.

Is this going to be squeezing a larger screen in the same chassis by thinning the bezels or are the phones going to get bigger and heavier again? The smaller pro phone is rumored to be almost as big as the max phone from just a few years ago.
Guessing it would be same size chassis with the larger screen coming from the reduction in bezels. But I'm not sure (obviously). From a production efficiency perspective, that would make more sense/cents (not scents).

Apple reinvented a smartphone back in 2006, no doubt, yet nowadays they are just trying to play safe in a rather old and saturated market. This market, for some reason, decided that “bigger is better”, so we should consider ourselves to be lucky Apple still sell 13 mini. I personally would happily buy any modern iPhone with a screen size smaller than 6”. Since so many people value a good battery life, however, the simplest way to achieve this in a sub-6” design would be to bring back 11 Pro, which had an amazing battery life for its size.

Apple running out of ways to differentiate between the regular, Plus, Pro and Pro Max iPhones.

I guess this makes the regular iPhone the new mini while the Plus still holds some meaning as it'd be larger than the regular and Pro versions.

I think this is the answer. A 5.9” screen with tiny bezels in the older chassis. I don’t need a 10x optical zoom lens. Just give me the faster SoC, the promotion display, 2 lenses and a titanium case, and I’m sold.

Pretty great idea.

From the rumours, it's thinner bezels.

And it makes sense that the pro phones are getting more and more feature differences between them and the regular phones. No doubt the price will increase at the top end max (ultra?) end, too.
