The existing 5.4” mini is as Pro as you can push it technically, as there simply is not enough physical space for anything else, so definitely no 3rd camera in this body. However, Apple could revive iPhone 11 Pro chassis (5.8”), then everything becomes possible.
No. They could have included the ProMotion display.

They could have also put in the telephoto lens instead of the ultrawide.

ProMotion would then eat into the battery life, thus negating any noticeable gains vs 12 mini, plus making a mini more expensive and sabotaging regular 13 sales.

This is not going to end well. Imagine yoga pants with these babies squeezed into their pockets, LOL...
This is the part that baffles me about the love for these huge phones. Who doesn't find the size inconvenient for a mobile device?

I had a 6.0" phablet years ago that didn't fit in some of my jeans pockets. These phones are bigger, bulkier, and heavier than that phone was. How do people carry these things when they don't fit in any pockets, and you need two hands at all times to operate them?

The mini was just about the perfect size and weight. Light enough to use while walking and not worrying that it was too front-heavy and would tip out of your hand. Small enough that you could basically reach the top corners without much struggle, even if your other hand was holding something or dirty. I just don't understand the appeal of having what is literally starting to look like an iPad mini that is somehow supposed to replace the actual, mobile, hand-held devices we used to call phones. It just makes the same device less useful and convenient when you're constantly having to lug it around and put things down in order to use it.

The average human hand hasn't grown by 0.2"/year since 2018. Why are phones?

Actually, it'd do the opposite. The 13 mini's display runs at 60 Hz all the time when it's on. The ProMotion display ramps down to 10 Hz on the iPhone 13 Pro when idle. The 14 ProMotion display can even ramp down to 1 Hz.

Note that the iPhone 13 Pro has better battery life than the regular 13, despite having a slightly smaller battery.

I'm fine with that. They could've raised the price more if they offered the Pro features. I would've paid the Pro Max price for a Pro mini if they offered it. I'd pay the Pro Max price for a Pro Max if it were smaller. I want and am willing to pay Apple's premium prices for the best -- I just refuse to buy a device that requires a forklift to make it mobile.

What if Apple made a $200 phone made out of plastic? iPhone Air?? It would feel light like air. The iPhone 14 Pro is a bit too heavy too!

Not saying Apple won't do this, but logically it makes no sense. I don't see anyone saying that the Pro or the Pro Max needs a bigger screen. Seems like a change for change sake and nothing else? Seems to me folks are pretty happy and used to the current size of the phones now.

Probably for the new iPhone Ultra and more camera tech, larger camera sensors, bigger battery 🔋 more room for the haptic feedback engine sensors that was supposed to be in the iPhone 15 Pro lineup

Phones are now good enough as far as I'm concerned and 6.1 inch screens seem to be a good balance between pocketability and usability. I don't know when I will get rid of my iPhone 13 Pro. The displays are so good that I will be unlikely to tell the difference, the processers are much faster than anything I am likely to be doing on my phone would require, and better cameras are wasted on me because am a horrible photographer.

They may not be good enough for others though, so I want them to keep advancing. Perhaps there will be something that comes along that I will need or want that can only be done on new hardware. As an example, much better Siri combined with on device AI driven computational photography so that I just can tell the camera to make the picture better and it does. Another would be something that works like the phones from The Expanse series (including the ability to "throw" content to screens or other devices). Those I would buy new hardware for.

There are some things Apple just does that we didn't ask for. This is a pretty good example. This needs to be the ultra.

The iPhone 16 Ultra needs to be this. Maybe there are 2 sizes of it, and the 16 Pro and Pro Max could stay the same.

What if there are 5 iPhones?

What if there are 5 iPhones?
iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro Max, iPhone Ultra, and iPhone Ultra Max!

Me. After using the Pro Max for a couple of years I’ll never go back. It fits fine in my pockets, and smaller phones feel tiny in my hands. I also really appreciate the large screen size in my car that is 10 years old and doesn’t have Car Play. I even used my Max with a keyboard to do some writing and other tasks, but a smaller screen is not as convenient for these things.

As always, everybody’s needs and wants are different. The more variety we have the better for all of us.

Which bit, that the mini is packed up to the brim as is? Check out the article below or iFixit’s own disassembly videos:

Cool and all however the iPhone 13 mini is using older technology. They could, I don't know, maybe say this is the size it's going to be and we'll put the best tech we can in it instead of the larger, larger, larger, largerlargerlarger they and the rest of the industry has been doing.
