I hear you. But what you're asking for already exists and has for years. It's called an iPad. You can get a 7.9" iPad mini for far less than an iPhone Pro Max. You can even get a cellular one for less than an iPhone Pro Max, and use it anywhere an iPhone can be used. And Apple keeps making bigger and bigger phones every year. There's no reason for anybody who wants bigger phones to talk about it because several options already exist from the Pro Max to the iPad, and Apple continues to make them without question every year.
There is no equivalent to that for those who want a mobile phone like the iPhone used to be. An iPhone that was usable one-handed for those with average size or smaller hands. One that fit into any jeans or shirt pocket. That's why it keeps coming up. It's a barely-met demand that was only partially fulfilled during two iPhone cycles in the middle of a pandemic that kept people at home, where a smaller mobile device was less necessary, and saddled with an unsavory name to boot. It seems abundantly clear that the mini models were only intended to present a "lower" price point for Apple to upsell people into more expensive models, when it actually could have been a premium option at a premium price point, like the Pro Max, for those of us who want something like the iPhone 6s or 7 that was the flagship model in a reasonable size.
As a result, many people during those cycles opted for a size that they felt was too large in the form of the 12 Pro and 13 Pro in order to get the Pro features rather than sacrifice those features for a more suitable size. A few of us opted for the more desirable size and are bitter that we are still made to sacrifice again and again with inferior options (if any at all, as this year nixed the mini) to the behest of people who want a device that is illogically too large and too heavy for the average person and the product's most practical purpose.
I don't want to watch movies or game on my phone. That's what a TV and iPad are for. A phone is a mobile device that provides calling, texting, and occasional web browsing as needed when out of the house and somewhere that I can't bring my iPad or laptop. The priority is for it to be portable above all else. But every year, Apple keeps pushing the smallest size of the iPhone larger, relegating the newest and best features to the largest of the large models, and has made the smallest option larger than many people want.
None of us have complained that the Pro Max shouldn't exist. It's clear that there's demand for it and I fully expect Apple to continue making it or some equivalent "Plus" or "Ultra" size. But year after year, we continue to see Apple pushing further away from offering any practical, handheld, mobile phone option. And while we may not be the majority of device buyers, the demand still exists in millions of units per year for it and it remains unfulfilled.
