Then passionately tell Apple to continue with smaller ones here. If enough of us do, Apple might fall for it again, as it happened with minis. 😉
Thank you! I was worried that my preference for Apple’s smaller phones was offending those who prefer the larger and heavier phones, but with your blessing I will continue to mention that I enjoy using a smaller phone. ;)

Apple was supposed to offer three phones. 5 inches "Phone", 6 inches "Pro" and 7 inches "Ultra". $500, $1000 and $1500. Innovations are passed on annually from top to bottom. Is it that hard? "Ultra" should also be able to do more. HiFi sound, camera, display quality, M-chip and very large battery. Thunderbolt, Ram and massive storage. Speakers that stand out from the competition. They could also install glass at the top and bottom that really lasts for years without scratching. Then Apple could also like to charge more than $2000, as this is justified.

I really do hope they are not going to make the phone physically any bigger as it has already reached the limit for me personally and a choice between Pro cameras features and usable phone size would be really frustrating ( but cheaper at least)

I am torn. I'm feeling pressure to move to the Pro Max for the iPhone 15 due to the expected camera features. I don't really want a phone that large, however. If Apple continues this practice of exclusive features on the Pro Max version for iPhone 16 AND increases the screen size, this creates more problems for me. I don't think I should have to sacrifice features because I don't want a huge phone in my pocket.

Actually, Apple could consider the same approach with their other not so mainstream models, like 14 Plus, for example. I would happily wait for a few weeks for mine to be built from scratch.
I think Apple could do it for the entire lineup. But iPhone Mini activists are so vocal, you would think there is 1.8 billion of them out there. 😁

I'm holding out for a notch-free, island-free iPhone. Until then, I'm sticking with my SE.

What if Apple made a $200 phone made out of plastic? iPhone Air?? It would feel light like air. The iPhone 14 Pro is a bit too heavy too!

I'm starting to think that the clashes in objectives of annual rear camera improvements vs. cell phone form factor are feeding this problem(?). A better camera basically needs more depth (thicker phone) and bigger lenses to let more light in (growing bump and multiple lenses). I wonder how much the cost of the rear cameras are vs. total cost of iPhone? It seems much innovation is poured into those and that may be a LOT of what drives up the costs of iPhone.

I wonder if there would be a market for an iPhone without the rear cameras at all. Conceptually, that would be a MUCH cheaper, fully functional iPhone that still has the front-facing camera for FaceTime, etc. Think about old iPod Touch or those earlier iPhones with good (enough but much less onerous) cameras.

Those seeking exceptional photography could overcome all of the limitations of trying to cram a great camera into a tiny, thin package and return to buying dedicated cameras as a separate device. Because that option doesn't have design limitations (like thin & light), they can maximize photography physics.

There is no way to EVER get the best quality of dedicated cameras built into a thin slab phone form factor. Yes, it's quite convenient to have both in one but maybe there is a market to split them back out again. Personally, I prefer to take photos with an actual camera myself. Right tool for the job! Yes, I still take some photos with the camera that is with me... but when I know I'm going to be taking more important photos, I bring the camera (too).

This is not saying that ALL iPhones should go this way. But what if ONE iPhone jettisoned and/or retro'ed the camera to get back to those much lower priced iPhones we used to enthusiastically buy? That would still deliver all apps and all of the "iPhone" benefits EXCEPT the very best iPhone camera packs. Some could then take their pictures with the more modest camera, (awkwardly with the) front facing camera and/or with a dedicated and much more capable, dedicated camera.

Just a "think different" idea vs. the apparent future where phones will have to keep expanding as they try to deliver ever-better camera functionality. Physics being physics, there is only one way to keep making meaningful progress in that part of things.

Or maybe Apple should take a crack at creating a great camera that also has touch-screen phone functions? Once a phone is too big for even "pants with bigger pockets" and "two-handed use", maybe hanging the camera around our neck/shoulders like photographers have always done... and that new device also being able to cover phone & text (& app) functions becomes a new possibility?

Will there be a turning point when they advertise: „we were able to make the new iPhone (23?) even smaller in size by maintaining and even stretching the telephoto and microscope lenses ranges…“ 😂 hopefully, because I want pro features in a small size (with an iPad at home or in the backpack as needed)

I’m a Mini evangelist, but I also wouldn’t mind if Apple preserved the size scaling of .6” to make a 5.7” aluminum version. It would still feel comparatively small, yet big enough to seem appealing to the masses.

I also believe it would sell better if it isn’t called iPhone Mini. Label the 5.7” version as just “iPhone” or “iPhone Air”.

Apple should just have an iPhone Mini manufactured on demand so I can stop hearing about it in the threads. The only difference, if you want it, you just have to wait for it to be manufactured versus going into a store and buying one. This is to protect Apple from manufacturing a bunch of them and there is really no demand for it.

While we feel for those this with little hands, we have to agree with you, it doesn’t matter what a topic is about, there will be someone that makes it about a miniature phone. You don’t see us giant people doing this in every topic about how we would like bigger phones.

But now that we are on the subject, let’s talk about it. I am a giant person, when the first iPhones came out I couldn’t wait for larger screens as the original ones were just comically small. The pro max we have now is adequate, it seemed big at first, but as you use it and get used to it you realize it’s still too small. And with all the gaming, videos, and ability to watch movies on our phones it makes sense to offer a larger phone. 6.9” is a great start ☺️ but we think something around 7.5 to 8 inches would be ideal. It would also free up a lot of space for a huge camera sensor, bigger, longer lenses, and at least a 7000mah battery.

Be well friends, of all hand sizes. 🤝

I don't feel like the normal-sized 15 Pro is going to be compelling enough for me to upgrade my 12 Pro this year.

I would probably upgrade for the periscope lens, but if that's only on the Max, no way. My hands are barely large enough for the normal Pro!

Perhaps it'll be the 16 Pro that allures me. I can see a nice upgrade for "Sweet 16."

I can't believe they're going even larger on the screens -- maybe it'll be due to the small bezel size more than anything? 🤞

So they’re alienating people that want pro small phones even further?

Apparently, they know that just about anyone complaining will buy anyway.

Why would they think that? Because "we" seem to do this over and over again.

A wall of pre-release disgust, "nobody will want", "solution in search of problem", "this is the stupidest...", etc seems to flip into "shut up and take my money" at the launch and gushing excitement at unboxing the new thing they apparently hated before Apple actually rolled it out. It works EVERY time. Why should Apple think it would be different this time?

Except it didn't really happen with the Mini. We asked for a phone that could be used one-handed, and they gave us a still-too-big Mini. Pleasing no one. Bring back the iPhone 4 form factor with flagship specs!
