Anyone else think the conclusion of this article is kind of obvious? I just hope Apple does everything it can to keep the case size as small as possible if the screen size does indeed increase significantly.

I'm the one who agree with the larger screen , European does not effect with keyboard but I do.
I also love larger screen than previous model.

It great to hear that they will release two size . Anyway could you add multi windows .

I hope these people realize that they may gain some - and lose some. If they increase the size of the iPhone (i.e. making it even BIGGER than it already is!) I will move some place else.

To what, really? Apple is one of the last few standing in the sub-4.5" screen category.

What you'll probably end up seeing is them getting rid of the 3.5" screen devices and having the 4" model and the 4.7" (or whatever in that range) sized model.

I would enjoy a wider screen. But it's tall enough for me.

The number one "feature" I want, though, is way better battery life. I would love to see Apple stop making the iPhone thinner and stuff the thing with battery.

If that were true then there would be only one size of the MBA, MBP, iMac, and iPad and iPod.

or maybe just no more 17" mbp and matte screen, dvd drive options etc etc

it dosent have to mean that every product is affected the same way.

btw im saying i would fear not that i am sure or think just that it wouldnt surprise me.

I've said it before but I really can't wait for bigger sizes. I am interested to see how they try to avoid fragmentation with the new resolutions tho.

I'm hoping that if they do indeed update to the larger screens, that they update the UI to accommodate it. I don't want to see what they have here in the mockups: a blown up version of the existing iPhone iOS. I want it to be like the iPad: where the icons are a bit smaller compared to the size of the device.

For example, if they were to keep the pixel density the same, just a larger panel, then they could keep the icons the same size, and just fit more of them on the screen. To me, I don't want to see the same home screen that exists on the iPhone currently.

Having a 4.7" screen and a 5.5" screen iPhone will boost income and demand for those who want the larger screen iPhone. Every smartphone except Apple has a phone with 4.7"+. The HTC One has a 4.8", The Blackberry Z30 has a 5" screen, Galaxy S3 has 4.7" screen...etc. The list goes on and one. I understand the people who don't want big screen iPhone, but Apple needs to compete and in order to do that they need to get to the shareholders, Wall street, analysts on their side..etc. Research In Motion was the king of cell phones way before Apple and samsung. Research In Motion failed to catch up to competitors and brought them to their knees last year. Research In Motion (now known official as Blackberry) launched the Z30 with an HD 5" screen last year. If Blackberry, who was basically on their deathbed, saved themselves, Apple can. Sorry again for those who oppose, but its time for Apple to say forget the hatters and make something that will make people's jaw drop like it did in 2007 with the original iPhone.

Honest to god people...
Do all of you who are screaming that they'll bail if they release a bigger phone actually believe that they'd stop making the current, most popular size format in the world?
Really?
I've heard less whining from 4 year olds.

1) The rumor here people are commenting on says exactly that, that Apple will release two new much larger sized iPhones, and eliminate the 4" model.

2) They eliminated the 3.5" when the 4" came out.

In light of #1 and #2, I think people are justifiably concerned, and are reacting appropriately.

I for one think it'll never happen. But this rumor says it will. If it does happen, I will hang onto my 5S as long as it lasts and then, I dunno. I'll be pretty much screwed at that point. I do not want a phone bigger than 4". I certainly don't want one any wider than the iPhone is now. That's the main thing. Luckily for me, and everyone else, this is just a rumor by some clueless analyst pulling numbers out of his butt. It's not even a new rumor, it's the same rehashed rumor that pops up every year around this time. All the other rumor sites will report on it, which will cause more analysts to make more claims based on those reports, which will cause another cycle and on and on and on. It's just the usual echo chamber BS. Naturally when Apple releases another 4" iPhone in October, AAPL will tank, and everyone here on the forums will complain that Apple lied or something.

I just want a 5" model.. 4.7" might not be enough of a upgrade in size, and 5.5" is to big... 5" would be perfect.

Based on some rough calculations - if Apple can halve the vertical bezels, they could add 0.7" to the display and only add 0.15" to both the vertical and horizontal dimensions of the device.

This would mean 1 total inch or bezel above and below the display (for earpiece and home button) and 0.15 total on the right and left of the display.

Currently we have about 1.37" total on the top and bottom and 0.31" total on either side.

In other words, they don't have the make the 4.7" display device much bigger overall.

Maybe they can offer a phone enabled iPad mini for those that want a phablet.

I would, instead of carrying 2 gadgets.

This is a very subjective article. So many people are wanting to believe:
1. Apple will make a phablet
2. People will actually buy Apple phablets en mass.

Point 2 is probably true as people buy anything Apple. But Point 1 is questionable. I hope Apple don't make phablets in the future. I'll be sad if they do. That means they will have to keep a 2nd proper sized phone always or I'd have issues. I want an iOS phone. But I don't buy a phablet. And if Apple make the mistake of not releasing new iPhones and only releasing new iPhablets, I probably try to make my current iPhone last till it dies.

I (and many others) want an iPhone. We do not want an iPhablet.

Just curious, why don't you want a wider screen? I find that I am the opposite––the iPhone screen, if it were any taller, would make it difficult for tapping things at the top (especially back buttons, if you can't swipe.) But there are many instances, such as surfing the web, when I have to scroll side-to-side, where I find the wideness of the screen to be inadequate.

This is the solution. And I'm sure people would buy it. iPad, iPhablet (iPad mini) and iPhone. 3 sizes. And all is well.

Way behind.

It seems simple enough, when everyone went with touch screens, older push button methods seemed outdated. When screens went larger across all other phone makers, doesn’t that communicate that’s what people want?

Apple dropped the ball here in my opinion but it’s a very small ball and not enough for them to earn a negative point in my book. They are just too innovative and cutting edge. So much so Samsung copies them all the time like now with the finger print scanner. They should be embarrassed! And before some Samsung trollies states apple is now copying Samsung making larger screens, Apple is simply – though lagging, getting up to par with the market demand and NOT copying Samsung and larger screens are not an advancement invented by Samsung.

but apple is very much a one solution fits all so while i also hope they wouldnt kill off i for one wouldnt be surprised

On the contrary. the iPhone/iPodTouch is the only mobile device they make with a single screen-size option. Laptops and iPads both come in 2 screen-sizes, and it won't surprise me at all to see 2 iPhone sizes this year.

But I don't see more than 2. I think it will either be

1. Current 4" display and a new 4.7" display OR...
2. 4.7" display with same body size, and a larger option.

Apple's general comments on the matter would lead me to believe that an iPhone above 5" is less likely.
