Just because you have tiny girl hands doesn't mean everyone else has.

On the other hand, just because you have giant King Kong hands doesn't mean everyone else has...;)

They would be way better off with a couple options...Kind of like the iPad and iPad mini for different needs...

I would hope Apple does begin to offer two sizes of iPhones considering how popular iPhones have been. If I didn't utilize iCloud as much as I do, I would have definitely gotten myself a Galaxy Note. As much as I dislike Android, the screen size would sell me on it alone. The only 2 complaints I really have about the iPhone is the battery life and screen size. So I'm hoping we'll see the bigger iPhone soon.

I was happy with the smaller screen sizes for a long time but I find myself using my phone more and more so I'd appreciate the bigger size. Less than 4.9" though please. 4.5"-4.7" seems ideal.

The new screen sizes for the next iPhones:

iPhone mini (4")

iPhone Air (4.7")

iPhone Pro (5.5")

This also means that there will be an iPad Pro released soon.

Can't wait for October 2014!!

Do not want

I use my phone all day and love how I can reach all the corners of the screen with my thumb while never having to move my hand. It's a huge part of the mobile experience to not have to constantly clutch the phone with two hands. If the phone gets any bigger it'll suffer from the same problem as the galaxy series, they're far too big to use one handed. Apple is smart enough to know this I'm sure.

If true, 4.9" is to big (thats what she said). 4.7" is the max. I have smaller hands and the SGS3 was a pain to use one handed, so if Apple wants to cater for the mass markets, 4.9" is going to be too much.

Imagine they asked "would you like a smaller phone that fits better in your pocket and your hand". If you add the votes for "bigger screen" and "smaller phone" you'll get a total way over 100%.

Why not both?

Screens can fold now.

Good. The small screen is why I don't have an iphone now. 5" or close to it is perfect for me. The 5.5" on my note 2 is just a little big.

I'll believe it only once I hear it directly from Apple and formally announced.

For now 4" is the perfect size.

This is why i missed the S, I am happy with my 5 and the fact that the 6 will definitely have a larger screen. As for the size, shape and form yet the rumours begin.

"With the iPhone 6, we've achieved something quite incredible.
We've improved the iPhone's screen without sacrificing the beauty and the comfort of using the iPhone.
We have worked hard to give our customers an amazing new 4.9 inch screen, but keeping it within the same size and weight of iPhone that we know and love.
This has required new developments in materials design and engineering. And I'm incredibly proud of what we have created...."

4.9 inch iPhone 6.
Overall device same height, thickness and weight as iPhone 5s. (Just a teeny bit wider)
In this case it would be a good phone, but I think it's quite impossible to do.

As a creative this size is much needed for practical reasons. Sometimes you need a larger display to present media/work and you don't always want carry an extra iPad on site and the iPad mini can't be used as a regular mobile phone so this serves both purposes. If they could put a mobile chip in the iPad mini that would be great too.

Keep the 5C and add A7, new cameras and TouchID

Release iPhone 6 with 4.5" screen or greater screen, A8 and whatever else.

You now have options for small screen consumers and larger screen consumers.

My computer is functioning properly. There is something wrong, however, with people who repeatedly visit a website to read "bigger iPhone rumored", "analyst predicts bigger iPhone", "is this the year we get a bigger iPhone?" again and again and again YEAR after YEAR. Is there any kind of garbage you won't consume?

People read what they want to read. Who are you and I to judge?

If you don't like the content of an article, why are you reading it? If you don't like the discussions on a thread, why are you posting in it? If you don't like how a forum is being used, why do you keep coming back to it?

If your computer is in fact functioning properly, you have every ability to to skip an article, a thread and even, an entire forum. If you are reading an article or participating in a thread that you find distasteful, its not everyone else's fault.

While I am definitely not an iPhone hater, I'm a Galaxy Note 3 owner, and think it's the best smartphone you can buy right now. If Apple released a 5" or larger iPhone I would switch back in a heartbeat! Please make this happen Apple!!!

Right, funny.

I don't see why the iPhone 5C line can't eventually fill this niche, given the fact that the iPad Mini and iPad Air now are pretty much the same specs...

Don't want a bigger screen? Methinks Apple, based on its historical track record and the fact it is still selling a 3.5" phone will keep some newer phones small. Higher margins, and there is a market.

No, they are same specs but with different market points. The iPad mini fills in the cheaper iPad with Airness. More to the point, it fills in quite nicely the portable area which Apple had problems with.

I like the current size of the iPhone 5/5c/5s. I also liked the size of the 4/4s. But to be honest, these phones are not easy to use as GPS units in the car because of their size. Its the one use case I can think of where bigger is better.

A phone is not a GPS unit. If you need a phone as a GPS unit, then buy a standalone GPS unit. You'll get a bigger screen, far more accurate maps, better speaker volume and a cheaper alternative factoring lower data consumption (assuming you have a metered plan).

Get prepared to be disappointed. The 4 inch screen is going the way of the dodo.

If it does happen, then it means Apple can't innovate with actual features but is just selling you a bigger screen, kinda the thing that Samsung does. So, the way of the dodo is something Apple will suffer if they do fail to deliver anything but a bigger screen. Bigger screen is becoming the new camera MP marketing scheme.

We might not need it, but we would like it and desire it. And if enough people like it, it is good reason for Apple to produce it and let us pay top dollar for it.

Noone needs cars, with cycles and horses being around, but we still use them, no? A Need is relative and not for you to decide..

Exactly, you said yourself, Apple knows you don't need it. Steve knew people didn't need a bigger screen. People don't know what they want. Steve knew and understood that. Cook doesn't. Increasing the size of the screen just mean giving into market madness and what the competition says. Apple leads the competition, doesn't follow them.

I very much agree. The current iPhone 5S are already at the point where it will be uncomfortable wearing in my jeans pocket, my suites or even jackets. It's already nearing the maximum limit of one hand use with the iPhone 5.

I just can't see how I can use a Samsung sized phone on a daily basis and comfortable with one hand use or with clothing. Much alone a women on a dinner date. A clutch purse will not do.

Exactly, our phones are basically turning into iPad Minis... what's the point? None. It looks ridiculous to see people with tablet on their ear.

You are right and apple agree with you - customers don't need choice in phone screen size. That's why I switched to Nexus5.

So long then.

lol...yes it is

Yes sure, a simple "lol" contains so much logic I cant refute your point.

Yes it is. We don't all have midget hands.

The 3.5" screen on the original iPhone was criticized and yet it sold millions before it was ditched. It means, it worked, Apple made a mistake by making it bigger. See above on this argument.

I agree that a bigger device isn't needed but a bigger screen would go down well. I know there physical and commercial limitations but the 5S is about 5.4 inches across the diagonal. Now if most of that was screen.........?

Where would the ear piece go? The proximity sensor? Where would the home button go as well? Bigger phones are uncomfortable to use and that is a fact. Heavier, can't hold with one hand, and it pretty much looks like you have a tablet, not a phone, on your ear.

This is a phone, not a tablet. Need a tablet? Get an iPad or Nexus Tab.

When is choice ever a bad thing? Hopefully they'll still offer a 4" model along with the larger one.

Choice is never bad. Need a bigger screen in the iOS world? iPad. Android? Several Nexus, Kindle and Galaxy options. You have options.

Speak for yourself. I've owned every iPhone sans the 5s, and the screen size is the weak link.

For you. However, you fail to see the real picture. See above for all different arguments against bigger screen.

No thank you.

This stupid obsession with these mini cutting board phones is ridiculous.

I don't want a phone any bigger than the 5S.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Kuddos to you good sir.

Jony Ive: "Two years ago, we thought we had introduced the perfect screen size. Letting your finger move from here, to here. And we were right- oh... And we were wrong."

How about no? all the screen sizes and resolutions are already making it difficult, especially without having a vector renderer. stop chasing Faildroid and innovate

iPhone (as well as all other smartphones that have come since) was never just a phone. To start, the iPhone was meant to be a wide screen ipod with touch controls, a revolutionary mobile phone and a breakthrough internet communications device. Since then, Apple have added many native features to the iPhone including a navigation app.

If people should not be using iPhones as a navigation device, someone should tell Apple. Apple have spent tens of millions of dollars building their own native maps application.

Okay, fair enough. Then do you believe they stick with 16:9, or choose a new aspect ratio entirely?

My thoughts were based on my personal feelings on qualities Apple would attempt to optimize for in making the change. One handed use is a clear priority and doing the math for 16:9, it just becomes too unwieldily in my mind, particularly if you are designing for both genders.

Totally get your thinking if your premise is the questionable optics of going in one direction and then back to your original... I just can't get past how clumsy a phone that size would be at 16:9.

The problem with 3:2 is you get a very wide display very fast as you up the size, and that will be uncomfortable as hell quick fast if you try to go to a 4.5" display

This is the reason why phones like the GS4 are still pretty usable despite being 5". A 16:9 1080P display gives you a large canvas for displaying content, but are narrow enough in portrait orientation to maintain usability with very small bezels and the front of the device being 90% screen.
