Jodie Fisher dropped a dime on Hurd for personal gain. Nobody really knows what happened between the two. Just like the thing with Tiger Woods, you'd think these guys would be smarter than that. Seemed like HP was coming around...they even have Dre peddling laptops.

It's pretty obvious: Larry Ellison is just covering his own *** because the world is very close to finding out about his affairs/relationships, so when that does happen he can fall back on his own words.

I'm sure it won't be hard for him to find a job. Sanjay Jha from Motorola got paid $103 million a few years ago... and Motorola doesn't seem to be doing so well. Ditch Sanjay, hire Hurd.

P.

What the heck are you talking about? Motorola (and Sanjay Jha) bet big on Android and are reaping the benefits. Droid anyone?

the new york times lol. thats where i stopped reading. i dont know whats worse, the rag itself or the braindead morons that read it

"new york times reports..." what an oxymoron

Ellison is an idiot. Like any experience in your life it shapes who you are and without Steve being kicked out he wouldn't be who he is today.. and there never would have been a NeXT company to buy!

I definitely agree with the latter part of your statement, but that doesn't necessarily mean that Jobs' absence didn't hurt Apple during the Sculley and subsequent years, even if the firing experience did make him a much better and more valuable executive on his return than he otherwise would have been.

And btw, I'm not sure how many "idiots" are able to found and successfully run companies like Oracle...

As a former HP employee, I think I can safely say Crazy Larry is way off base here. Hurd did nothing but buy up companies, and cut jobs.

I'm sure Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard have been spinning in their graves the past few years, seeing what has become of this once great company.

Yep, I worked at HP for many years, and I can attest that the bad times started when Carly Fiorina took over and continued after Mark Hurd became CEO. HP's stock price rebounded simply because Carly was out. She was a disaster.

I feel bad for the people in CA having to put up with her running for office. Everything she touches turns to ****.

Larry Ellison needs to get a grip.

Comparing this guy to Jobs (and HP to Apple for that matter) is just a load of nonsense. Not in the same league.

I have no opinion on whether the guy should have left HP or not, just talking about the bad comparison.

I've noticed a number of comments criticizing Larry Ellison for comparing Mark Hurd to Steve Jobs. I agree that Steve Jobs is a superior CEO. However, my impression is that Larry Ellison did not compare the 2 CEOs. He compared the decisions made by the boards of Apple and HP. His point is that in each case the result will have a very negative impaction each company. That is the similarity, not individual talents of the 2 men.

I don't think Carly was as bad as she's been made out to be. Much of Mark's success can be attributed to moves Carly started.

Being an employee at HP wasn't as bad when Carly was there as it was once Mark started slashing jobs, overtime, on-call pay, etc. Each year I was employed at HP I made less money than I did the previous year.

Political Correctness run amok. HP will get what they deserve.

Correct. The threshold for firing CEO's is way too low these days, a strong pendulum swing from the 80's no doubt. This guy was invaluable to the HP resurgence. Now that he has his double-platinum parachute, as deserved, perhaps the HP board will rehire him as an independent consultant at a couple million a year to continue the work he was doing until this silly technicality rolled along that had no connection whatsoever to operations.

Really? how well has MOT stocks been doing since 2005? how well has HP been doing since 2005?

MOT has been tanking since 2005 ($22 -> $8) yet Jha has been richly rewarded.
HP has been gone from $20 to $50. Apple has also been doing well, in the same time frame.

(MOT does more then just sell Droids, BTW; they once competed with Intel, TI, etc)

Wikipedia
(Motorola) "Its global market share has been on the decline; from 18.4% of the market in 2007, it had a share of just 6.0% by Q1 2009 but at last Motorola scored a profit of $26 million in Q2 and showed increase of 12% in stocks first time after lose in many quarters."

If/when this happens, he strikes me as they type that would brag about it rather then resigning. Another difference is that he is the 5th richest person in the WORLD, worth about 30 billion dollars, an order of magnitude more than Steve Jobs.

Seeing Jobs without his black turtleneck is a little funky to me.

Prepare to be really freaked out then. Here he is in a suit!

I know he did im not saying that. Im saying that his 'image' has changed much over the years. He now dresses like a thrift shopper and not a CEO

And waaaay toooooo many CEOs who dress the role are little more than EMPTY SUITS - way overpaid, not performing for the shareholders, and appointing their good old boy friends to the Compensation Committee of the board to ensure an employment contract that pays them whether they perform or not.

Steve thinks different / performs different !!!

so my iphone is more powerful by far than those chunks of ancient computers he's leaning on right?

Larry Ellison couldn't care less what people think about what he has to say--he is a maverick and a billionaire--so I guess it really doesn't matter. I don't care for his attitude but at least he hasn't run Oracle into the ground yet.

Well if thats the case then Apple can buy HP when it hits rock bottom. They can pick up their IP and any useful tech.

Unless Jonathan Schwartz makes a return as CEO.
That could be interesting.

Nothing worng with wearing a suit. Steve jobs wears the same thing each keynote starting with macworld 2000. (he wore a suit at keynote events 1997-1998 and then wore a white top at the 1999 keynotes) Shows how much you kids know about decentcy when you wear baggy clothes that show your butt ox.

Besides this topic should really be read by 18 +. Sexual harasment is something we dont need these kids learning
