Why is it presumed to be iPhone 4th Gen? I'm confused.
To me it looks like any other iPhone (not 1st Gen obviously)
The reason the bezel looks black is because its reflecting the blacks of the iPad, surely we all know how a mirror works by now?.........my opinion anyway.

Clearly if you look at the top of the phone you can see it has a heightened edge so its wearing a case.

Three reasons i know this is BS:

1. Apple would not give the iphone a front facing camera without the iPad having one

2. Apple would not put an unreleased product on display

3. Out of all the people there no one else noticed the supposed camera hole? Even the photographer obviously didnt until later or else he would have taken a close look.

Should be on page 2

It's the picture that came in the night before the iPad was introduced!!
It's supposedly a picture taken in secret from an Apple Testing Room...

So, its not "On Display", and its a prototype, so yes, it could have a camera...

geez..

might sound ridicules... but the thing the "prototype iphone" is sitting on sure looks like an iPad in that metal case.. the speakers, 30pin and home button are all in the right place... and some images that were leaked before the iPad release look as if they are in the same case..?
But prototype iphone? i dont think so..

Are you being serious???

IT IS ONE OF THE LEAKED PHOTOS!

damn, i'm getting tired of the idiots on this website..

Look closer at that Ipad image!!!

I havent yet gone through all the comments but there is something people seem to have missed on the photo (at least looking at the earlier comments). The black material used to mask the Ipad has got TWO indentations on its face. The first to accomodate the home button, the other is in what would be the position for a front facing camera. So Apple DID have prototypes with front facing cameras!!! My guess is that they removed it for the final production version so that come next year, they'd have something "NEW" to entice us the "oh so gullible" public.

guys, obviously since these were pre-production prototypes, they were seeing what they could do. Since they have not announced a camera on stage and on the website, clearly the decision was made to not offer a camera to keep the initial cost down and/or to have something to offer in a 2G ipad down the line. So will everyone please stop getting their panties in a wad over potential cameras in the release of these ipads?

THERE WILL BE NO CAMERA IN THE IPAD, AT LEAST INITIALLY.

End of story.

They could fool anybody now?

I think that is an iPhone 3G on the picture. I saw a few iPhones, where people had the chrome frame being replaced. In this case, I cannot see any difference apart from that.

I wonder, how many at Apple are laughing at these speculations. The iPhone's shape is so outdated that it would be a joke to release another one with this body.

it is getting reaaaal frustrating!! urgh...
i mean, come on people!! i swear to god that if i post a pic of an an ipod nano qith a weird reflection on the glass. it'll be all over the news, "the ipod nano's hidden thermostat!" im getting sick of this... i mean, i know its gonna get ugly in march/april, then again in june/july... but please, can u guyz give it a reast now?!

Until the iPhone can double as a phaser, I'm sticking with my 3GS.

I think everyone n they're aunt would have one of those if there was a phaser on their phone!!

I wouldnt mind if the ipad had wireless control for some of the audio software thats out at the mo. Although truth be told, thats been done by steinberg already, so i dont know why Digidesign, n Apple havent done it!! :((

Anyone notice that the iPad bolted to the table may have a camera?
Why else is there an opening in the metal frame used to secure it. (directly across from the home button)

I noticed that too. That opening in the metal frame of the iPad is in the same place you would expect a camera to be and that cone shape cut-out would makes sense so that the view from the camera wasn't obstructed. If it was a simple light sensor they wouldn't bother with that type of cone shape cut-out.

Yes they would

If the new iphone has a camera, the ipad would have a camera as well. So I doubt a front camera is coming.

That doesn't sound too good, cause then I'm thinkin' whatever is going to make this a 4G phone is going to be gimmick. Oh boy . . :(

It's a silicon case

It's a normal iPhone 3g/3gs with a silicon black case, by Belkin or some other - at least it looks identical to the one on my table. Not a prototype.

Status Indicator

The white blotch could very well be some sort of status indicator for missed calls or texts. One of the stupidest omissions by Apple IMHO. If they are to implement it, I would guess that it would be similar to the sleep light on the laptop line.

it is so exciting working for R&D in apple computer, it is like the spies in the cold war, all secret and hidden to consumer.

who knows, it might be over soon, when he leave CEO to new guy, new guy might be more open.

Don't know if it's just me but the size proportions on the "iPhone" doesn't seem right? Looks smaller or shorter. Kinda like an iPhone Nano of some sort?

Here's a crappy 1-minute PS job(45 seconds searching while 15 seconds pasting LOL). Maybe someone can do a better job with the proportions?

The top of your addition is floating in the air - you have the phone tipped up at an angle, which is why it looks longer - the top is closer to the observer than in the original photo.

Wouldn't a camera where the blotch is be too close to the earpiece?

I only say this as cameras are traditionally further in the corner on other phones.

Why would a camera have a reflective cover? There's no indication that it's transparent.
