My theory with that maps app is that it's the new maps application from apple. They are getting rid of google maps and that is what their own new maps app looks like.

Cool then I guess it looks just like Google maps

I'm not a big mac guy, but I have often noticed Apple tends to often fail my best expectations. The iPhone while revolutionary I don't think went far enough. I still ended up getting one.

- I can see Apple using it's own maps company, Google I don't think has a patent or anything regarding the text or red dots used on its own maps.

- As far the interface is concerned, I imagine that were will be something similar to the apple dock, only instead of real programs like OSX there will be in place iphone apps. This dock will hold all the apps and with a finger swipe will scroll left to right like on the iphone main screen. I mean if you can imagine a combination of the iMac screen being restricted to hand gestures (iphone) I think you'll see my logic in how the interface will play out.

- Yes it will have carriers, as far as pay is concerned it will only be a data plan (which relatively speaking is cheap compared to a full data voice and txt), but who knows Apple could do like what Amazon did with the Whisper Net thing (free), however being Apple I imagine they'll be just as greedy as they have been.

- As far as a physical dock is concerned either's gonna be huge and have an angle for which to rest the tablet or there won't be one at all.

- TV will be available (at some point), in what form though is beyond me (with rewind capability and youtube uploadability?).

- Streaming (sharing network) media will likely be a huge component, I give credence to this idea because Apple TV died mostly because it didn't and still doesn't offer a viable solution to mobile streaming plus it was based on a renting movies scheme which is not something people are willing to pay for online. I mean look they still sell it but no where do you see it advertised on the site. It's kinda amusing.

- I don't imagine it will have Time Machine, but it will create back ups like the iPhone does.

- I pray it has flash.

- Headphone jack obviously, but speakers? I suppose there will have to be if it does stream tv or movies.

- Txting? I am not sure.... if there is data plan probably. Which brings me to another point why not make add phone capability? So it's like a videophone? But that would be very expensive.

- I imagine there will be some sort of painting program like MS Paint. It just makes sense.

- How will the unlock feature work? How will the sound control work? Buttons on the side or a hand gesture or both?

- Text entry will be interesting, particularly depending on the orientation of the screen. The half circles in the corners idea that Microsoft had was actually pretty spot on in terms of ergonomics, but knowing apple they aren't always that kind with normal hand positions, (mighty mouse, magic mouse, tiny apple keyboard with big spaces between buttons), so I can imagine something similar to the current iphone layout, but that would be huge lettering on a big screen. But they could perhaps have it set up like how they have the Chinese text entry on the macbook pros, where you have to manually enter each letter, while comfortable, would be slow. This is hard to anticipate.

- I imagine heavy emphasis on cover flow perhaps even the suggested dock I pictured.

- I think there will have to be background processing and I will tell you why. Imagine if you're at school doing math homework on this thing, you would need a calculator running at the same time and perhaps on the same screen so that you keep your thoughts organized while reading and inputing calculations.

- I have no idea how big the hard drive will be, it would be nice to see something in the 100 gig area.

But I could be all wrong it could be a flop or disappointment like the Apple TV or half assed attempt like the constant updates to the ipod line, like the handicapped iphone (ipod touch), a new camera on the nano, a bigger hard drive to the original ipod, or itunes update with awesome new cover flow. I'm sure I could list more.

Great! Your guesses are just as unfounded as anyone elses :D

Great! This is a rumor site. I was mearly adding what I consider quite reasonable predictions for this device.

The gloss will be in the UI, it won't have ground breaking hardware, but ground breaking UI with the ease of use which will make this device so successfull. Like the iPod and iPhone ease of use are key to their sucesses.

Let's see how close I was later! But of course you know better as your dads uncles mate who knows Steve has had one for 6weeks and you know better.

Fake. So is the CNN thing. Why does everyone all of a sudden believe everything because we're so close to launch? A week or two ago there were giant iPhone images and people were screaming fake. Now for some reason the tablet will be a giant iPhone? I guarantee the tablet will be unique. Apple don't make products based off of their other products.
How do you know it's fake? Nothing in the pictures prove it looks like an iPhone. The entire outside casing of it is covered.

I think the idea of the tablet having TV on it is completely against Apple's business model..

they don't want people watching TV on the go, they want people buying shows on iTunes.

I can't wait for tonight to find out what this is all about. I hope it is a tablet because it would be a very good move for Apple and also extremely useful.

However I don't know if i will buy one. I just don't know if many iPhone or Macbook owners will buy one. My macbook is small enough i think, i dont know if a tablet would benefit me anymore than and macbook and a iphone.

It looks about what I'd expect...

Also, you dont' often find people going through the trouble of "whiting out" important information if its a fake...

just my .02

I don't know why jason would lie though, hes easily a millionaire having founded weblogs, engadget, etc, so why would he wanna lose credibility unless he just plays it off as a joke later on when confronted about it

You've never heard of Harry Knowles and Ain't It Cool News?

Can you give me the full list of those billion places? :D

Actually I'm personnally usually around wifi hotspots, even when I'm on the road. I myself would prefer the thing without a contract and just rely on wifi. And considering the repsonses in this thread I'm not the only one.
Let's put it a different way; I have iPhone but don't make too many calls with it. I use it for access to the internet wherever I am (I'm writing this reply on it right now, actually, from an Ihop). Now, one could argue that if I don't use the phone part much, I might as well just get an iPod touch. But you know what the phone has that the touch doesn't? 3G. Because even if *you* have Wifi in the two places you'd use a tablet (home and work, perhaps), there are a lot of people who would like constant connectivity everywhere else.

Now, this doesn't mean by any stretch that I think a 3G subscription should be *required* by any means, but it should definitely be optional. Optional in a way that it isn't for the iPhone (at least in the US). Either way, we shouldn't be limited to WiFi only and I highly doubt apple would do that.

Judging by the pictures and the old patent, I think the screen will be translucent with touch sensetivity on front and back though. Uses can include tapping your back fingers to move to the next page of a book, browser buttons to the left and right of the scren for easier taps with your rear fingers, moving windows from behind, etc etc...Hence the patent filed in 2008 by Apple:

Business model? are you kidding me? Look if it's another potential revenue stream like the iphone then I can assure you TV will come to it. How they figure out the content control is another matter. They could go the netflix route of subscription and stream tv shows, given that Apple TV/itunes model of video (the music section is great) flopped horribly and I have hard time believing people are buying tv shows off itunes when they can buy dvds, keep them, stored without placing them on the hard drive, but then again I think buying dvd tv shows/seasons is stupid in itself. They could go the verizon way of broadcasting live tv to various cell phones. You can't dismiss the prevalence of TV plus from a pricing/profit point of view prices for consumer could be low when you add in commercials/ads.

Although I have no idea what MacRumors and the other tech sites are going to report on from here on out.

They'll be talking about the new iTablet killer, the ZuneTablet - which Microsoft will start work on the moment they have a prototype in hand (read: the day the iTablet is available at their local Apple Store).

Loving the people who gripe about other people posting rumours.......

Perhaps we should decamp to 'macidlespeculation_and_unsubstantiatedconjecture.com' forums, where we might be appreciated.

My main worry is that it will be priced like its 2007. £800-£1000 and I'll be tossing up whether to buy a new iPhone come July or the tablet. But I wont be buying both after spending £900 on a Macbook 6 months ago.

Nope!

Yet another controlled leak. This is probably an early prototype. Something to get across the concept and a platform to develop the interface and software. Final design will not have the home button on the front. Steve has been working for this many years on this thing and you can bet it will have one less button if he has anything to say about it.
