They'll be talking about the new iTablet killer, the ZuneTablet - which Microsoft will start work on the moment they have a prototype in hand (read: the day the iTablet is available at their local Apple Store).

Already in concept. Microsoft Courier. And if they manage to bring to market the concept they've been throwing around then I'll most likely be more interested in that device over this one. Though not everything has to be an Apple product killer, it can simply be a competing product. Like Android phones. No one phone will take down the iphone, but growing support for a platform sure might make a push towards taking away some of the iPhone's fame (but who are we kidding, not really).

That said, any of these devices without pen input is just a waste. That's a big blank canvas for me to draw on, I want to be able to do so, and so would a lot of other designers.

As for the images go. I had a feeling there would be know what Apple would make it to the keynote without ONE leaked image. Whether its fake or not we are looking at something besides a render, and a design that any of us would have pictured as the tablet. A big rectangle, big screen, black border...how hard was that.

too large!

oh man... I don't know if the plastic border ( which I know will be removed ) is just confusing me, but when comparing to the iPhone... it seems way too big to me. How will you be able to hold it with one hand???

pleas please please be smaller than this.

The MS Courier concept stuff looks amazing. Kudos to them if they can get anything near that into the market for a reasonable price.

Judging by the pictures and the old patent, I think the screen will be translucent with touch sensetivity on front and back though. Uses can include tapping your back fingers to move to the next page of a book, browser buttons to the left and right of the scren for easier taps with your rear fingers, moving windows from behind, etc etc...Hence the patent filed in 2008 by Apple:

with all the circuitry needing to be in there I dont think it's even possible, but who knows, if we can use the back for touch inputs, it'll be a opaque touch surface just like the macbook mouse pad and the magic mouse, imo.

Calacanis is smoking drugs! If this thing can do all that it's gonna be 1400 easy

I hope what he is saying is true but also hope they don't demo farmville or take any significant time with that game. I might be in the minority but I can never figure out why that game is interesting to so many. I could not play it for any length of time, just to boring and slow.

Farmville make my brain melt out of my skull. They want to talk about how games will be great to play on this device, show Steve up there playing Call of Duty, nuking 13 year olds with a rocket launcher.

Dont worry, mate. I am with you. :D

no worries, he must've been smokin sumthin. come on, he wrote it'll have an integrated HDTV tuner and PVR? sorry, but i couldn't stop myself from laughing when reading this one :p

i'd be happy if they integrated a few USB ports, i don't even dare hoping for FW400/800 and DVI or even HDMI...

2 more hours... then we'll know :apple:

Did anyone notice the iPhone bezel?

In the comparison picture, the iPhone has a black bezel. Verizon iPhone?

Already in concept. Microsoft Courier.

Pfft. CGI fantasy demo. There are a thousand multimedia folks who could have whipped something like that up. Demo video ≠ actual shipping product. As for the concept itself, I saw the foundation of this in January 2007. Steve Jobs was holding it on stage.

Microsoft deliver? Wasn't everyone expecting this miracle Courier device at CES?

No, it won't. If the screen were translucent, you'd only be able to see the underlying circuitry; processor, ram, HDD, etc..

We haven't quite yet invented invisible computers yet...

This thread is 25 pages long, so I apologize for my redundancy... I could totally see myself fanboy out from a CAD perspective (having FW out for my hardware). I know engineers aren't the intended customer target (maybe I am looking at that beveled case too much) but work site computing would be quite different if this device is robust...

My engineer nerd hat is removed now, return to a logical/normal broadcast :)

Put touch versions of Starcraft and WoW on this thing and Apple will rule the world.

In religion class - western religion, still hawkin the thread and engaget. One more class after this then I'm running and makin my girlfriend run across the street to barnes and nobles so I can hop on wifi on my MacBook pro and tune in!

The thread better not be quiet!

uhhh... I am sure they arent making a translucent screen with the memory and other components under the screen. haha Hence the larger than normal frame around teh screen by apple... Look at even the image on those pics... the screen is blurred toward the edges all of the way around. I bet translucent screen as well.

Just in case you don't like the subscription plan,
I found this yesterday while researching tablets:
http://www.archos.com/home.html?country=ca&lang=en
home-archos-9-en.jpg

It looks like we are really going to have to subscribe to another f**king service if this picture is really it. I don't want to have a special AT&T or Verizon subscription to make my tablet work. I just want a simplified laptop or an iPhone with more real estate and video chat.

Does anybody see a camera on the front of this thing?

Jeez, guys...that's not the unit, that's a black frame that's bolted down over/around it, likely so it stays put in whatever facility that is.

To be clear: no, the bezel is not that big, because that's not the bezel.

So it's transparent?
Looks like you can see through the screen

Having just seen the Sports Illustrated demo on YouTube... I really want one!!

And I bet the new iLife will allow me to create 'smart' photobooks and all that for the tablet. Imagine sending a fully interactive photoalbum instead of a link or a slideshow or a DVD. Nice!

The thing about TV connectivity is that this could be an Apple TV that works. Never mind 3G use, let it stream from an iTunes directory, sync down 512 gigs or so of shows and movies, and have it so you can bring that with you on flights, and we are talking a killer app.

It would need a way of getting a HDMI signal and a digital (optical through the headphone adapter thingie?) signal to tv and stereo but if this is done, I suddenly will want one.
