I got one of the images and took it to photoshop and played around with the "Shadow/Highlight" setting to reveal more detail in the shadow areas and there seems to be another circular indentation at the top...maybe another home button? Camera? Maybe I'm just seeing things haha but it's interesting. http://i46.tinypic.com/30bgq46.jpg

Do you guys think this is not Google Maps but maybe Bing Maps? What about Apple Maps? Why not? Didn't they have a patent for it? http://www.9to5mac.com/apple-google-latitude-functionality-maps-2546345

This anticipation is killing me...we have like 11 more hours to go! Ughhh.

That looks good, nicely done

Engadget is reporting it's for Verizon. It better be for AT&T too or else Apple is going to have millions of pissed off iPhone users... If I'm 6 months into my AT&T contract, how can they expect me to also pay for a contract with another phone company, that's ridiculous!!

More than 25 million to be exact.
It would also eliminate any world wide sales as the USA is pretty much the only country that uses CDMA.

who am i kidding...i'll buy one as soon as it's announced. get it for the wife and take her kindle. i do all my mobile stuff on my iphone anyway, but hate reading books on the iphone...wife will love the tablet, i'm sure. i just hope the cellular fees are minimal, or that there's some kind of kindle-esque whispernet service built in, at least for the first couple of MB of data.

I thought a while ago that it made sense for there to be three connection options:

- WiFi
- 3G data-only contract with multiple carriers
- Tethering via your iPhone.

I think it's crap. Calacanis may be a big name in the web-startup world, but he's nothing in Apple's view. They didn't show the CEO of AT&T what an iPhone looked like months into their contract. No way a beta tablet of is floating out there.

And this was before he started spewing off crazy/insane specs.

arn

Just read the tweets, and I thought it was at least somewhat plausible (I mean with Apple who the hell knows?) until I read this:

Calacanis said:
The best part ofthe apple tablet as beta user has been the built in HDTV tuner and pvr, and the chess game.

Built-in HDTV tuner and PVR? Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiight...

It looks more like a bezel. That indent in the casing is probably an easy way to grab the device when the case is unlocked.

the indentation in the plastic housing is identical to the one below for the home button, meaning that area is meant to be exposed. There is just no purpose for a 10inch tablet to have an ear piece like that, you couldn't grip it with one had comfortably to talk on. Not to mention how stupid you would look using it.

That screen looks ....

.... kinda 'translucent' don't ya think??? Check out the bottom left corner for instance. Or has my afternoon nap blurred my vision?:)

Are we going to see some mbp updates aswell???

Absolutely no way. This is a tablet announcement, nothing else.

You will see an hour of eBook, newspaper and game demos. :) So-and-so from the New York Times up on stage, then so-and-so from EA, etc.

Judging by the pictures and the old patent, I think the screen will be translucent with touch sensetivity on front and back though. Uses can include tapping your back fingers to move to the next page of a book, browser buttons to the left and right of the scren for easier taps with your rear fingers, moving windows from behind, etc etc...Hence the patent filed in 2008 by Apple:

It is just me, or does it seem like every member of macrumors turns into a detective when these kinds of photos are leaked? apple should give us a cold case from the bay area PD. we could crack that **** out in an hour tops...:D

Cool 10-pound armored travel case!

All I need to know in order to want an iPad(?):

* Based on iPhone OS

* 9x the screen area

And those two are pretty much certain!

9X the screen area? So we're talkin 1440x960? !!!FREAKING AWESOME!!! :D

Its not a cell phone, its a tablet computer. I doubt they care that you have a cell phone bill. Lots of people have evdo or 3g cards for there laptops separate to their cell phone bill.

maybe the casing was meant for the device to be put in either way. AKA if someone put it in the other way, it would still be functional from the casing.

Prediction for iPhone 4.0: SpringBoard that turns to the side when your device's orientation changes. I can't imagine a 10 screen not doing that.... haha

10 hours!

Furthermore it would be great to see an OS X snow leopard compatibility here.

I'll be glad when the tablet is launched as the Mac OS greybeards will finally shut up about Snow Leopard and 'real' Mac OS. This is *not* going to happen on an ARM device and would be pointless anyway on a touch device.

You are exactly right.

I think you guys have to remember what Apple and Steve Jobs stand for.

I find it almost impossible that Apple would create a 10" iPod Touch/iPhone.

Apple has an Ace up their sleeve with this device. What is it? None of us know as of yet. My guess is it will be a Kindle Killer/Netbook Killer in a combined device that allows you to bluetooth connect a keyboard and mouse to it if you want to do more "real" work. I'm sure there will be some killer features and personally believe the UI will be a modified version of iPhone, but nothing that we actually ever see on an iPhone.

Again, think about it, if this is going to fit into there product line, it has to be something different then a 10" iPhone.
um, not to be rude or anything, but this is common thinking around these parts - that it's NOT just a glorifid iphone/ipod touch. of course it's going to have features we're not currently aware of...and if gruber is right, there will be this collective "aha" moment during jobs' keynote...

agreed. this will be all and only about the tablet. perhaps some info about iphone os 4.0 as it relates to the tablet, but there will be no other product announcements. it's 100% tablet.

If it forces me to go to itunes store to install apps then for the first time I will show Apple the bird. I am sick and tired to have a device I own locked to a provider and to an application reseller.

I do not want to have to go through apple to use a multimedia tablet thank you.

ALL you do on the tablet should be doable via the tablet's browser and I should be able to install extensions to that browser without having to go through apple too

I don't see Apple tying this to one carrier, you would eliminate so many sales, and why would I want another data connection if I carry the phone. I could see them using wifi to share the iphone data, verizon has the mifi. They could use a bring your own data plan, either bluetooth or wifi. Guess we will find out tomorrow I mean later today
