Not to out myself as an idiot, but what the heck is 'tethering' and why would someone be excited about paying $30 per month for the privilege?

idiot proof explanation: tethering is using your cell phone like a modem for your computer. you would be able to connect the two, likely though the dock connector to USB cable (they had a usb ethernet adapter so they could probably do this the same way). then instead of the wifi you can't use cause you aren't near it, you could get your laptop online through your phones 3g service.

as for the $30, ATT has a 3g modem card and the service is at least double that. so if you could tether you could save a few bucks for the service. win-win for many

I guess tethering is available for those that did not catch netshare in time? :goes back to tethering and cannot wait to cancel verizon aircard contract tomorrow!:

well, the increase in price for new music is NOT welcome. 99 cents has always been a good, nearly round price, and now we'll have to contend with an array of price points and levels. How soon will a "hit" song be reduced to 79 cents? Years? Will radio hits, and songs by popular artists, automatically be pushed up to $1.29, $1.49 or even higher?

sure, we all want DRM-free music, but no one's going to like the markup.

rumors, rumors, and where's my iPhone nano?

one of my friend is still waiting for the nano, so will ya debut this time?

I agreed, unfortunately maybe the raise in price might promote more piracy. I guess the labels need to feel in their own skin if this markup will indeed push consumers away from their music. Time will tell.

DRM free, and assuming I can upgrade my library to the better bit rate and no DRM, is dream. If that's all that was announced tomorrow, I'll be happy, and spending.

Throw in a killer iWork update, and it's consumer heaven. :)

BRING IT ON!! maybe with a new mac mini i can convince my dad to get me one... lets hope for no optical drive for a much cheaper price.. i mean seriously who uses a cd drive anyway

I do. I burned around 100 CD and DVDs in the past month.

Here's what I really hope to hear from Phil:

"We've now a portable plug and play external Blu-ray drive. Yes. Just like the sleek external Superdrive accessory for the Macbook Air, except now it plays Blu-ray discs also".

What I'd love to see is DRM free movies

Let's kill the BS on the Apple TV-- HDCP is so lame for those of us who play by the rules and all it does is encourage piracy. In this new jacked up economy--the average American isn't going to get new hardware to support overpaid wankers in film and music studios. Perhaps they can stop paying themselves ridiculous salaries for designing a CD cover for whatever new album is coming out and pass those savings on to digital consumers since they are not paying for CD distribution, replication nor in-store marketing when they sell something on iTunes. Variable pricing for DRM free is a jip!

Looks like now the mystery over Steve's health is solved the hype is building up for the keynote. I can't wait. Its 8am here now - 9 hours to go. This might be a long day.

It's a shame that it takes only one click to connect my macbook to my n95 as a bluetooth modem and use my $15/month AT&T 3G internet connection as much as I want. I used 872 MB last month according to AT&T, which is impressive since I only use it when I'm on long trips, everywhere else I take my macbook to has wifi available. But iphone users pay $30 for the 3G data plan, and pay even more for tethering? I have no problem paying for Apple products that are worth the price (aluminum macbook, mac mini) but having to pay AT&T 4x more for a recurring cost for the same service is something I'll never do.

lol you have to pay $30 for that in the US?!?!? on my contract here its free, with unlimited data allowance.

What speeds/max speeds do you get using 3g Internet connections in the US? Usually i get about 7MBP/S here but it goes to about 42MBP/S in urban locations.

Slightly exaggerated there. The iPhone would have a very hard time giving you a 42MBPS connection and I cant believe you received that speed on O2's shoddy roll out!

Yes, I have an iPhone, yes I'm on an O2 contract and yes, I too live and work in and around London. Most I've ever got is 10MBPS and that didn't last long.

Of course I would love to be proven wrong so feel free to post a speedtest screenshot ;)
