The new iMacs will be a green statement from Apple. They are likely to use:

-The CPU's mentioned in the rumor. No gain in speed, but they use less power.
-New LED displays. Better picture, less power consumption.
-New architechture to overall use less power.

These updates, especially the fact that the Mini appears to not be getting a design change after 500+ days, is rather upsetting. There was no reason to wait till March for such a mild upgrade (and how can the base Mini only have 1 gig of Ram...its pathetic).

Tenks, could the imacs also be a diff architecture? All it says is the ghz, but not C2D..

Wow, found something:

And finally you say the "MAC PRO 2.26_8CX" is a mystery. It's one of two things. It's a mislabeled/inconsistent label of 2 quad cores (8c) or its the 8core beckton. If you remember, you scale cores, you can't scale the clocks as linearly. When the dual cores were at 3-3.2 ghz the first quads were at 2.66+. Now that quads are at 3-3.2ghz, the octo's will definately release at lower speed bins. The one thing going against this speculation is that beckton's have been just delayed to Q1 2010."

Questions?

I think its more likely that the 2.26_8CX is referring to 2xquad cores... just look at the way apple market the current mac pro - its 8 core. What this means, is that there is going to continue to be a quad core option which will be 2.66. Nothing that unexpected there, except there is a chance they might just use and i7 or xeon rebrand of the i7 in a single socket board to reduce costs.

at macworld they probably found out that phil's presentations suck, so they decided to give us the stuff without the sleepwalk... sorry, talking.

There is nothing to tommy tank about really, at the octobershow they went on about the unibody, at macworld the went OTT explaining the features of iLife & iWork, there is nothing to talk about here except "Bump"

It seems like Apple isn't putting much effort into being competitive with computers anymore. The success of the iPod and iPhone means they're making money in other ways, and lately the computers have been an easy way to milk extra cash from rich people, students (using loans), and diehards. If you like OS X and don't like being completely ripped off, thankfully there's a large and growing Hackintosh community. These people would have likely been Apple owners, or were in the past, but Apple's current hardware strategy, and being completely out of date with their hardware, killed that opportunity.

Great. Apple giving customers what it thinks they want.. not what they actually want.

If these rumors come true, I'm done with Apple desktops.

I wouldn't bet on it, and I'm a betting man...

I think same old shell, new features under the hood.

I really hope so, I mean, they should, it's been over five years and the mac minis are probably going to have a new case.
