Lol, upgrading RAM from 4GB to 8GB costs $1,700. Are you for real Apple?

It's been that way for forever. Retarded but true. 8GB of DDR3 will cost you an extra $600-700 to buy yourself. On an imac you can install it yourself pretty easy.

Apple you bunch of tw**s. Currently $599 dollars = £425. not £499. I was going to buy one. Not now. I hope they get it bad in the recession, i don't need a new computer that badly.

recap. Photoshop experts know jack-all about hacked photos.

the wired keyboard with numeric keypad is still avail at no additional cost. you just have to select it.
i think this has more to do with the imac being seen as both a desktop and media device where a smaller keyboard in the living room for instance is preferred.

It ain't that simple pimple.

you seem to be forgetting UK Tax for a start.

£500 for the base Mac Mini and £950 for the base iMac.

Are they serious????

Who in their right mind is going to pay that kind of money for what are pretty poorly specified computers.

Still, it has given me something to laugh about.

the $599 US price doesn't include any sales taxes, the £499 UK price does. £425.00 + VAT = £489. Still a bit higher, but that's a pretty fair exchange rate tbh

£1,500 for the 24" iMac with a half decent graphics card? Have Apple lost their freaking MINDS?

Thanks. I'm done with Apple. The love affair is over.

PLS tell me which one, i'm in a hurry :D

None of them, just buy an older iMac..maybe then if enough people do that Apple might consider changing their prices to reflect the current market conditions and wake up to the fact that £1800 for a top spec iMac is nothing short of stupid and foolish

Going from the Bse model to the next one up(24") is worthy as you get a bigger screen, twice the amount of RAM, bigger hard drive, but going up further just don't seem worthy at all-faster processor and different graphics card???? Pathetic!!

Michael.

its pretty clear apple is choosing to stay the "premium, expensive" computer...even in a recession. They are willing to lose some market share in the short term but hope that people (once they get money) will continue to envy apple products and their high prices...

slightly off topic i know but what dya reckon this all means for the march 24th thingy, was it real or not and if it is real and still going ahead what are they going to release as they have just updated pretty much the rest of the line. Does anyone think it may be a new iphone?

The basic (read cheapest) iMac price has risen by over £100.

but for that you get 320 GB as opposed to 250 GB
7200 rpm as opposed to 5400 rpm (Great for me as I'm running pro music software)

a better graphics card, and better expandability, (upto 8GB Ram, 1TB HDD)

I'm a bit upset about the price hike, but the spec offered is good enough to warrant it IMO.

I'll be ordering a new iMac in the next couple of weeks :)

Stop trying to justify this disgusting, DISGUSTING price rise.

No country received a drop when the dollar was weaker, so these massive price rises are completely unjustifiable. Looking through the specs, the ratio of what you get for what you pay is vastly in favour of Macs yesterday compared to this refresh.

The UK Technology journalist Twitter feeds are all commenting on it, and that's what'll lead the stories today and the next few weeks.

A huge disappointment, and will loose many thinking of switching.

Last night's entry price for a Mac Pro (4 core) - £1429

Today's entry price for a Mac Pro (4 core) - £1899

That's about a $660 increase for those of a US bent. I know about Nehalem, and I know about the exchange rate.

But that's a dealbreaker here for me in the UK, given the current climate. And I'm sure I'm not alone.

Oh, and that RAM configuration is nasty on the 4-cores too.

Sure the exchange rate is fair, but it doesn't change the fact that they are charging a stupid amount of money for a crap computer. I just checked out the Dell website and something similar to the base iMac costs over £300 less.

With the margins that Apple make there is plenty of scope for them to take a hit to keep the prices in other countries down to something that is reasonable.

I'd have thought making 10% profit on something is better than making 25% profit on nothing - which is what their UK sales are quickly going to move towards.

A very bad day, i've been waiting for these updates for ages, my iMac g5 is dying (screen burn in, goo oozing on the Logic board, broken superdrive)

i was expecting to able to get at least the middle 24" imac for £1200, now im gonna have to pay that for the 2.66 one

one good thing, its still got firewire, i rely on that for DV importing so cant not have it.

I am waaaaaaay disappointed with these 8-core Mac Pro specs, particularly for the price, particularly in the UK, particularly with the crap graphics cards on offer.

The sad thing is, I need one.

Poor show.
