So wrong on so many points.

You *do* know that today's 2 GHz C2D processor (like the one inside the lowly MacBook) outperforms yesterday's 2.6 GHz C2D processor, right?
Wrong
Processor speeds are, in many ways, irrelevant nowadays. I just 'upgraded' from 2.4 GHz to 2 GHz, and the new MacBook is a bit peppier at most tasks (large Photoshop files, Illustrator, many, many web browser windows, etc.).
Your core speed is the most important spec in many applications and will be for some time to come.
The RAM, video card, and other subsystems are beginning to be the main holdup in terms of sheer performance.

You have to qualify every part of that statement above. In many cases the video card has no impact on an app for example.

I really hope that people don't take to much to heart in your statements above.

Mac Mini Stupidity??

Hi,

£649.00 for a top spec Mac Mini?? Are Apple having a joke? £150 more than the base model and the only differences beetween them are a bigger hard drive, 1 GIG more RAM(wow) oh and let's not forget they both have the same graphics chip what a pile of complete rubbish!!! Talk about using this whole credit crunch recession to blind people!!

Complete letdown if you ask me, those prices are not justifiable in my eyes. I really don't like Apple's business strategy at the moment.

Michael.

Wow, the prices have gone up considerably. Granted the exchange rate is poor at the moment but seriously, for the hardware the top end iMac goes up by £440??!!!
What? That is a total JOKE!

What exactly does that extra cash get you? 4GB RAM instead of 2GB, and a 1TB HD. Big fecking wow! RAM can be gotten cheap off crucial and the 1TB HD is neither here nor there as far as I'm concerned. Anyway, you can get those cheap enough and open up the iMac to replace it.

The previous deal was much better. What happens I wonder to those who ordered a new [old version] iMac earlier this morning? Will they get the new specs at the same old price?

Nah... not for me. It's Hackintosh all the way for me from now on, or maybe I'll cut my ties and go Ubuntu... I switched from Windows and I can switch again if need be.

The iMac specs list a keyboard with numeric keypad as an optional extra, so looks as if that mini wired keyboard is the new iMac standard. Yet more they chop away but charge more for.

Steve maybe off, but the stupidity continues

They don't charge for the keyboard with numeric keypad, configure it, i did it.

Very Unimpressed!

I think Steve left for a reason. Whoever is running the show in Cupertino has lost their minds. Not only are today's releases underpowered in todays world, it appears they are satisfied with the status quo.

"Oh, and one more thing....<Choke, Choke, Choke!>"

These price rises are going to hurt in the UK.

On the one hand, we've been lucky the past few months with exchange rates heavily in our favour. But now, iMac, Mac Mini and MacPro prices are not good. Not good at all.

They're definitely going to hurt in the UK. I've been waiting since last October for a new iMac to be released. I've got the money waiting in the bank. And now that they have been released, I'm not going to buy one. Apple's desktop sales have been declining rapidly and I don't think that this update is going to help. Give me a quad core iMac and I'll buy it, but I'm not touching these obsolete dual core machines, especially at these inflated prices. The cheapest iMac is now £200 more than it was this morning and is no faster.

Looks that way...

Apple claim: What’s even more dazzling, the 24-inch iMac now starts at £1,199.00 (2.66)

Whereas the old price was £1,125.00 (2.8) (o.k. less memory and less hdd)

Which one should i Mac should i buy?

24": 2,66GHz > 9400M

24": 2,93GHz > GT120

I don't play much but my MBP late 2007 is sometimes slow when i have lot of applications open and using Exposè.

I've been waiting and waiting for the new Mini, finally arrives and with a laughable price tag! £649! Wake up Apple!

PLS tell me which one, i'm in a hurry :D

would it be cynical for me to suggest they are defaulting to a wired keyboard with no numeric keypad to encourage users to upgrade to the wireless one - "hey, now you aren't losing anything by going wireless"
